Chapter 65: Chapter 65
"Damn," Lianchen muttered, his gaze sweeping over the seemingly endless garden filled with rare resources. For a moment, he simply took it all in, marveling at the sheer abundance.
His attention was soon drawn to a crowd of people gathered nearby, all seemingly focused on protecting a young girl. He blinked, momentarily speechless, when he realized it was Ling Xue, being treated as though she were royalty.
Lianchen considered approaching but ultimately decided to ignore it for now. Turning to Chu Feng and Qing Ying, who had followed him closely, he opened his mouth as if to say something but thought better of it. Instead, he walked toward the stone golem standing in the center of the garden,
"You wish to take the trial?" the golem asked, its voice deep and resonant. Lianchen nodded silently, and with that, he was teleported away.
A booming voice echoed in the sky as he reoriented himself. "The trial is a test of herbal knowledge. If you fail to correctly name a herb, you will face a puppet. The puppet's strength will depend on your cultivation level and the number of questions you answer incorrectly. There are a total of 1,000 questions, and your final score will determine your reward. Are you ready?"
Lianchen nodded again, completely relaxed.
A herb materialized before Lianchen, its vibrant colors and distinct features standing out. He was allowed to take and inspect the herb, using his senses to identify it, but only had one minute to provide an answer.
"The Red Moon Dill," Lianchen said calmly, not needing more than a glance to identify it. His instincts guided him effortlessly, and the answer came to him almost immediately.
One by one, the herbs appeared, and Lianchen named each one with precision. Even the most obscure and tricky herbs were identified without hesitation. By the end of the trial, he had achieved a flawless result.
"...You got a perfect score. Congratulations," the voice in the sky said, though it carried a tone of begrudging acknowledgment. Lianchen smirked, unfazed by the voice's dissatisfaction as he was teleported to the reward room.
Inside, a vast array of treasures awaited him, each one radiating immense value and significance.
"With your perfect score, you are entitled to select five items," the voice announced. Wasting no time, Lianchen immediately grabbed the map he had been seeking. As for the other items the Zhou Empire ancestor had requested, he glanced at them briefly before dismissing them—they didn't seem particularly useful to him.
Instead, he chose treasures that caught his interest or might be valuable to him personally. Among them was a pure-blooded Dragon Egg, an extraordinary find. Pure-blooded dragons had long since vanished, making this item incredibly rare and potentially invaluable.
With his selections complete, Lianchen was sent out of the trial grounds. Spotting Qing Ying, he walked toward her, then casually called out for Ling Xue.
Ling Xue, caught off guard, quickly ran over to him. She tried her best to appear composed, hiding the fact that she had been using his name to gain benefits in the garden.
"Where is Chu Feng?" Lianchen asked lightly, noticing his absence.
"He went to take the trial on his own," Qing Ying replied. "He doesn't want to rely on you."
Lianchen nodded in approval. Someone like Chu Feng had the potential to make a name for himself. All he needed was a worthy challenge and enough time to grow.
"...I'll wait for him," Qing Ying said awkwardly, her tone betraying her feelings for Chu Feng. Lianchen didn't react, nor did he care. He was well aware of her affection for Chu Feng, but it didn't concern him in the slightest. The only thing that mattered to him was her Primal Yin. Once he obtained that, she could marry or do whatever she pleased—it wouldn't matter to him in the least.
Gripping Ling Xue's shoulders, Lianchen brought two fingers to his forehead before teleporting away, appearing high in the skies above the desert. Ling Xue pouted in frustration; she had been enjoying her newfound status as a queen in the garden, only to be whisked away without warning or resistance.
"Use my name in such ways again, and there will be problems," Lianchen said lightly, his tone carrying a weight that made Ling Xue's body stiffen. She hadn't expected such words from him.
"Karma is a complex thing," he continued. "What you did was accept favors you had no intention of repaying. Those unresolved debts will hinder your future cultivation path. And by using my name, you've also tied karma to me, hindering my progress as well. Everything you took is now your responsibility to repay. Clear any remaining karma with them. Understood?" His voice turned serious, and his sharp gaze left no room for argument.
"Y-yes," Ling Xue stammered weakly. She hadn't thought that taking a few things would be such a big deal.
"You're still just a kid, so it's understandable that you'd make such mistakes," Lianchen added casually. "Maybe one day, when you've matured, you'll look back on this moment and realize your foolishness."
Veins bulged on Ling Xue's forehead at his condescending tone. She didn't need to be reminded that she had willingly accepted someone who was far younger than her as her master. The sting of her pride only deepened.
Ignoring her obvious irritation, Lianchen examined the map in his hand. With a burst of telekinesis, he pulled Ling Xue along as he shot off through the skies. Before long, they arrived above a mountain, and Lianchen paused midair, raising an eyebrow as he looked down below.
"Looks like it was underground. No wonder I needed to tame the Earthworms," Lianchen muttered before diving straight into the ground. His speed was remarkable, and it didn't take long for him to reach an expansive underground cave. The air was thick with poison, prompting him to quickly erect a barrier to shield himself and Ling Xue from the noxious fumes.
Scanning the area, Lianchen turned toward the source of the poison and began flying in that direction. As he moved closer, the intensity of the poison grew, its corrosive properties pushing his barrier to its limit. Cracks began to form, and the barrier started to waver.
"This is annoying," he said with a frown, before grabbing Ling Xue and pulling her tightly into his arms. The sudden action startled Ling Xue, but her shock quickly turned to terror as the barrier dissolved completely, allowing the poison to rush toward them.
To her surprise, the poison stopped just short of touching them, held at bay by an invisible force.
"Stay close," Lianchen said, his tone calm. "If you stray too far, you'll be outside the range of Infinity." He sighed, shaking his head. "I should've created Blue when I had the chance."
He had reconstructed the Limitless technique but had only developed Infinity. If he had created Blue, he could've manipulated the void in space to draw in the poison, erasing the problem entirely. But at the time, he thought Infinity would be sufficient.
Letting out another sigh, he shot forward, the poison futilely pressing against the impenetrable barrier of Infinity. Before long, the poison began to thin, and they arrived in a cleared area. In the center stood an alchemist's furnace, surrounded by a sea of ancient books.
"You've managed to reach this far. I leave my inheritance to you," a sage-like voice echoed through the chamber as Lianchen and Ling Xue landed on the ground. "This is the legacy of Boiling Point Alchemy. When I was alive, I found no one worthy of carrying it forward. If you deem yourself unworthy, please find someone who is."
"Boiling Point?" Lianchen murmured, his interest piqued as he approached a book resting on a pedestal. The book contained detailed information about the Boiling Point Alchemy inheritance.
The technique centered around flame mastery. It involved incinerating the herbs and materials within the furnace down to ash. From those ashes, the pills would be born.
Of course, such a method was notoriously difficult to master, requiring absolute control over flames and a deep understanding of alchemy. Yet the rewards were immense for those who succeeded. To even begin on this path, one had to cultivate phoenix flames—a daunting challenge in itself.
'This is perfect…' Lianchen thought as he studied the technique. His mind raced with possibilities. What if he could burn the herbs to the point where their atomic bonds dissolved entirely? Could he use the cooling process to reorganize the atoms into something entirely new? Alternatively, should he cultivate phoenix flames and take Boiling Point Alchemy to its most extreme form?
Breaking from his thoughts, Lianchen turned to Ling Xue. "Here… make tea with this and drink it," he said lightly, tossing her one of the leaves from the Tree of Life.
Ling Xue, who had been standing with a downcast expression, unsure of her role in this discovery, suddenly lit up. Like an eager puppy, she leaped to catch the leaf, her eyes shining. The sheer life force emanating from it made her mouth water, but she held herself back, remembering to brew the tea as instructed.
Meanwhile, Lianchen returned his focus to the inheritance. He began reading voraciously, absorbing every piece of knowledge stored within the space.
