The Secret Marriage Pact

Chapter 23: The Fake Scandal

Amelia woke up to find the mansion unusually quiet. She thought it was odd, considering Lucas was usually up and busy with work before she even got out of bed. As she made her way downstairs, she was greeted by a tense atmosphere. The staff whispered in hushed tones, and their glances toward her were laced with unease.

She finally spotted Lucas in the living room, his face buried in his hands as he sat on the couch. His phone rested on the table in front of him, its screen lit up with countless notifications. Amelia approached cautiously, unsure of what had happened.

"Lucas?" she asked softly. "What's going on?"

He lifted his head, and she was taken aback by the storm in his eyes. Without a word, he gestured toward the TV. Amelia turned to see a news channel reporting something that made her stomach drop.

"Business Tycoon Lucas Gray Accused of Secret Dealings and Misconduct"

The headline was bold and damning. Pictures of Lucas and a mysterious woman flashed across the screen, accompanied by snippets of supposed "evidence." The anchor discussed alleged bribes, unethical business practices, and rumors of personal scandals.

"This is ridiculous," Amelia said, her voice rising in disbelief. "None of this is true, right?"

Lucas stood up, pacing the room. "Of course, it's not true," he snapped, his frustration boiling over. "This is Ethan's doing. I have no doubt about it. He's trying to ruin my reputation and destroy everything I've worked for."

Amelia frowned, her mind racing. "But how can he fabricate something like this and get it on national news? Isn't there a way to fight back?"

Lucas stopped pacing and looked at her, his expression grim. "The media thrives on scandals, Amelia. They don't care about the truth; they care about the story. And Ethan knows that."

Amelia could see the weight of the situation bearing down on Lucas. He wasn't just worried about his reputation—he was worried about the ripple effects this scandal could have on his business and the people who depended on him.

As the day progressed, things only got worse. Social media exploded with reactions to the story, and even Lucas's most loyal clients began to question their partnerships with him. Reporters swarmed outside the mansion, desperate for a comment.

Amelia stayed by Lucas's side, trying to offer comfort and support. But she couldn't ignore the gnawing feeling in her gut that this was only the beginning.

Later that afternoon, Lucas's legal team arrived, along with his PR manager, Kate. She was a sharp, no-nonsense woman who wasted no time addressing the crisis.

"We need to act fast," Kate said, laying out a plan. "First, we'll issue a public statement denying the allegations. Then, we'll gather evidence to disprove the claims. But Lucas, you need to be prepared for a fight. Ethan won't back down easily."

Lucas nodded, his determination returning. "Do whatever it takes. I won't let him win."

Amelia watched as Lucas took charge, delegating tasks and rallying his team. Despite the chaos, she admired his resilience. But she also knew he couldn't fight this battle alone.

As night fell, Amelia decided to do some digging of her own. She recalled the pictures of Lucas and the mysterious woman that had been plastered all over the news. Something about them didn't sit right with her.

She found a quiet corner of the mansion and pulled out her laptop. Using her limited tech skills, she searched for more information about the photos. After hours of digging, she noticed something strange one of the images appeared to be doctored.

Amelia's heart raced as she examined the evidence. The lighting in the photo didn't match, and the positioning of Lucas's hand looked unnatural. It was clear someone had manipulated the image to make it look incriminating.

Excited by her discovery, she rushed back to Lucas. He was in his study, poring over documents with his legal team.

"Lucas," she said, interrupting their meeting. "I think I found something."

He looked up, his brow furrowed. "What is it?"

Amelia showed him her laptop and explained her findings. Lucas's eyes narrowed as he studied the image.

"This is it," he said, a spark of hope in his voice. "If we can prove this photo is fake, it'll discredit the entire story."

Lucas immediately called his tech expert, a young man named Ryan, who specialized in digital forensics. Ryan confirmed Amelia's suspicions and began working on a detailed analysis to present as evidence.

The following day, Lucas held a press conference. With Amelia by his side, he confidently addressed the media, denying the allegations and presenting the proof that the photos were fake.

"This scandal is nothing more than an attempt to tarnish my reputation and undermine my business," Lucas said, his voice steady and commanding. "I will not be intimidated by these baseless attacks."

The press conference was a turning point. Though some people were still skeptical, many began to see the holes in the story. Lucas's clients started to return, and the public opinion slowly shifted in his favor.

Ethan, however, wasn't done. He released another wave of accusations, this time targeting Amelia.

Amelia's past was dragged into the spotlight, with tabloids painting her as a gold digger who had married Lucas for his money. She was hurt and furious, but she refused to let Ethan win.

"Lucas," she said, standing in his office. "We need to take this fight to him. If we keep playing defense, he'll keep attacking."

Lucas looked at her, a flicker of admiration in his eyes. "You're right. It's time to go on the offensive."

Together, they devised a plan to expose Ethan's corruption. Using the connections Lucas had built over the years, they began to uncover evidence of Ethan's shady dealings.

Lucas and Amelia stood together, united against their common enemy. The battle was far from over, but they were ready to face whatever came next. Ethan had underestimated their strength, and they were determined to show him the price of his actions.

But as the sound of a door slamming echoed through the hallway, a voice from the shadows whispered, "You think you've won? This is only the beginning." Amelia turned, heart racing, but there was no one in sight. The sense of being watched was overwhelming, and a chilling thought crossed her mind Ethan wasn't the only enemy they had to worry about.
