Chapter 380: Chapter 379: The Last Guardian vs. The Emperor's Son Progenitor
In a small clearing within the tropical rainforest.
Fugen stopped, standing tall. Among his brothers, he might be considered short, but among humans, he was notably large.
As the mutations of the Old World penetrated deeper into society, mutated children were born every day. Most humans saw mutations as a curse, while the northern barbarians viewed them as blessings from malevolent gods. Regardless, humans in this world tended to be broader and taller, which wasn't particularly surprising.
Fugen held the hilt of his power sword at his waist, his bright eyes fixed on Kuga. The lizardman before him was undoubtedly a loyal servant of the ancient saints, and likely one of the strongest among them.
A hint of mockery appeared on the face of the Emperor's Son Progenitor. He remembered the Great Expedition, where he and another, facing countless aliens, had forged a deep friendship through successive victories. They had once shared a drink together.
He had always admired and emulated the figure he revered and admired in his heart, which was one of the two main reasons for his ultimate fall: his worship and respect for Horus and the demonic taint within his sword.
Even today, he remembered Horus's words and decided to utter them now.
Regardless of whether the alien before him understood, it was tradition.
"I take this world in the name of the Emperor of Mankind and His Empire. I bring justice and truth to the loyal, and punishment and death to the guilty."
Kuga responded with only roars, along with the snarls of his mount, Quimoc.
The Emperor's Son Progenitor's gaze became somewhat distant. During the Great Expedition, he and his legion had asked similar questions in front of many different alien races.
The responses varied, and the lizardman's reply did not surprise him.
What did surprise him was the ripple in his own heart when he asked the question.
Where were the loyal sons?
Where was the past glory?
Where was the glory of the Emperor's son?
All that was past, and if the old glory was gone, then let the Emperor's son forge new glory. Fugen raised his power sword: "For the Emperor!"
"Roar!!!" Kuga, the last guardian of the Ashtoth lineage and the lizardman war leader, initiated the attack.
The divine spear Talanksrak, once held by an ancient saint, clashed directly with the golden power sword granted by the Emperor.
"Bang!" The saint's spear was extraordinary, and Fugen immediately felt a tremendous force from it. The Emperor's Son Progenitor felt a terrifying power coursing through the blade. He was about to deflect this force when Kuga's mount, the tyrannosaurus Quimoc, gave him no chance! The massive dinosaur rammed into Fugen with its head.
"Ugh!" Fugen was pushed back several steps by the force. He quickly recovered, gripping his power sword with both hands and slashing down angrily.
"Clang!" Kuga immediately raised his spear to block, and both the war leader and his mount were knocked down by Fugen's blade. Quimoc narrowly rolled away from Fugen's second strike.
Fugen's sword cut a ten-meter-long, one-meter-wide trench in the ground. The Emperor's Son Progenitor didn't have time to regret missing his target, as he immediately raised his sword to fend off Kuga's fierce attack. The ancient spear came with a force that broke the sound barrier, but Fugen managed to block the first strike.
The divine spear Talanksrak was immensely powerful. After Kuga's first strike was blocked, he incredibly twisted his body and delivered a second blow. Fugen agilely dodged, his power sword tracing a circle in the air.
In an instant, the power sword and the divine spear crossed paths five times in the air.
"I am the son of the Emperor! And you, you are nothing!" Fugen's strength continued to build. The blade of the power sword narrowly missed Kuga's neck, but Fugen reached out and grabbed Quimoc's face, lifting both Kuga and his tyrannosaurus into the air with one arm. He spun them twice before smashing them against a large tree.
The tree trunk broke with a loud crash, and Kuga and his mount fell into a dense thicket, making a tremendous noise.
The next second, a blue bolt of lightning tore through the bushes to Fugen's front. Fugen, with sword in hand, unleashed an overwhelming power. Kuga had to immediately block with his spear, but he managed to grab Fugen by the neck.
"Boom!" A cloud of dust rose in the rainforest, and Fugen and Kuga were thrown out together.
When the dust settled, both the human soldiers and the lizardman army witnessed a terrifying duel.
Fugen's swordsmanship was exquisite, his movements so fast that
multiple afterimages appeared to the human eye. It seemed as if three legion commanders were attacking the lizardman war leader simultaneously.
His every attack was an afterimage, his power sword striking at Kuga at least five times a second.
"Legends always exist." Fugen unleashed all his power, forcing Kuga into a continual retreat.
Kuga fought with ferocity. The lizardman war leader's spear released the supreme power of the ancient saints. He was endowed with the powerful blessings given by over twenty dying slan, enhancing his strength. Ducking under Fugen's attack, the divine spear cut a huge gash across the front of Fugen's breastplate.
"Ha!" Fugen immediately raised his sword to block, kicking Kuga in the chin. His power sword sliced a deep wound along Kuga's arm to his armpit. Kuga spun in the air and countered with a stab, plunging his spear into Fugen's abdomen.
Both grunted simultaneously.
But Fugen was quicker to react; he punched Kuga in the face, sending the lizardman warrior flying like a cannonball, crashing to the ground.
"Boom~" As Kuga hit the ground, Fugen was already upon him. His sword raised high, he was about to deliver a deadly strike to the lizardman war leader.
Kuga didn't use his spear to attack; instead, he smashed his horned head against Fugen's handsome face. His horn was harder than the hardest obsidian, and as it struck Fugen's forehead, he released his grip on the sword hilt, punching Kuga in the chin.
The next second, the divine spear and the golden power sword clashed again, sparks flying.
The duel was far from over!
They stepped back, Fugen feeling his injuries. The Emperor's Son Progenitor frowned heavily, knowing he had met his match today.
The power of the lizardman before him was unimaginable. Even during the Great Expedition, he had rarely encountered such a formidable opponent.
If this were Fugen at his peak, defeating the lizardman before him would be straightforward. But having only resurrected two years ago, he possessed only sixty to seventy percent of his peak strength. The weakness of rebirth pained him.
This was no excuse for failure. The Emperor's Son Progenitor would continue to fight—for the Emperor and for honor!
If Fugen was still cautious, Kuga was utterly shocked.
Kuga, the last survivor and guardian of the Ashtoth, was an extraordinary lizardman from birth. He bore the "Sacred Infant Mark," and the ancient saints had plans for his birth and future, which is why the slan allowed him to join the Sacred Council. The ancient saints had a special mission for Kuga, endowing him with tremendous power.
The strongest among the lizardmen, the power of the ancient saints.
"Destiny" as revealed by the ancient saints guided Kuga's path. Before the fall of Xihout, dozens of slan had bestowed their final blessings upon Kuga.
That such immense power could not defeat the human before him, even forcing Kuga into a slight disadvantage, underscored the strength of humanity.
This convinced Kuga that the human before him was no ordinary man; he was likely one of the chaos-worshipping barbarians, and with such handsome features, flowing hair, purple armor, and exquisite swordsmanship, he was undoubtedly a chosen champion of the decadent gods!
The human before him had to be eliminated here!
Kuga raised his left hand, wearing the "Hand of the Gods," a relic of the ancient saints on his wrist.
The power of the ancient saints flowed in the palm of his hand.
For the grand plan!
The battle reignited. Kuga and his mount Quimoc relied on their formidable strength to contend with Fugen. The divine spear Talanksrak and the golden power sword crossed thousands of times.
The power of the spear enveloped Fugen, and the Emperor's Son Progenitor saw apocalyptic visions: the world burning, stars falling, volcanoes erupting, a meteoric firestorm obscuring all spirits, gods weeping, the wrath of the ancient saints had come, and those who opposed the grand plan faced only death!
But Fugen was no ordinary man. He had witnessed hundreds of worlds turn to ash, his brothers dying in betrayal and deceit. He had rebelliously turned away from his father's guidance, falling into darkness, personally killing his brother Ferrus, and sending Kiriman into his coffin with a single sword strike. The illusions of the divine spear could not frighten him, but instead ignited his intense fighting spirit.
The two forces collided. Fugen stepped back one step, Kuga one and a half. The spear's tip narrowly missed Fugen's face. Using the momentum, Fugen spun his body and struck, the blade aimed directly at Kuga's neck.
At that moment, Kuga reached out with his left hand.
A surge of frantic
premonition thundered through Fugen's mind. His instincts screamed at him to dodge this strike!
As he anticipated, Kuga released a searing orb from his left hand.
The orb contained the primordial power of the universe's creation and the ancient saints' act of creation, the purest light of the universe's origin. Unleashed by a servant through an artifact of the ancient saints, it vowed to completely annihilate all enemies!
"Ah!" Fugen was struck by the orb. The Emperor's Son Progenitor was pushed back by the orb's force, leaving a trail like a shooting star through the air. As he passed, trees broke and vegetation evaporated until, after several tens of meters, Fugen landed in a bush in the rainforest. Although he had desperately dodged, the orb released by the Hand of the Gods still burned a grotesque wound into his left shoulder, the armor melted away, and Fugen barely had time to check his injury before he had to roll away.
Narrowly, the divine spear thrust into the ground, and Kuga, abandoning his mount Quimoc, chased after Fugen. The power sword and the divine spear clashed again.
Fugen felt the agony and torment in his body, knowing this battle was difficult. The lizardman before him possessed an artifact of the ancient saints, and its power was so great that it injured Fugen.
Although it was unclear how many times the artifact could be used or what conditions were needed for its use, Fugen knew that if the lizardman could use it once, he could use it again. He had barely dodged the critical strike the first time; if there was a next time, he wasn't sure he could avoid it.
Kuga was even more surprised. The Hand of the Gods was one of the artifacts left by the ancient saints, a powerful magical item capable of instantly killing great demons with a face-to-face strike! It had already instantly killed several great demons, and yet this human had only suffered a burn on his shoulder?!
Kuga immediately signaled the spirit lizard priest to call for reinforcements.
The battle was not over yet, and the two heroes of their respective races clashed again.
...
Sun City, Hesuota, Pyramid Temple.
A spirit lizard priest hurriedly arrived, finding another priest who was a guardian: "A message from the front line, War Leader Kuga has encountered a powerful enemy and needs support."
Guardian Isis, a great spirit lizard priest and the daily overseer of Sun City, considered for a moment: "We can send three more lizard legions to support Kuga."
"That's not enough, the War Leader has requested the support of the Temple Guard Legion and the Ancient Beast Legion." The messenger priest said, "The enemy Kuga faces is described as unprecedentedly powerful; he needs to mobilize the Temple Guard Legion and the Ancient Beast Legion."
"But those are the core forces guarding Sun City; they cannot be moved lightly." Guardian Isis flicked his tongue, making a sound. The spirit lizard priest whispered, "The human invasion army will need to mobilize the Temple Guard Legion and the Ancient Beast Legion? This is unprecedented..."
"The War Leader insists." The priest was merely relaying Kuga's message.
"We cannot decide this alone, let me consult the High Priest!" Guardian Isis, feeling the resoluteness in Kuga's attitude and recognizing the war leader's foresight over thousands of years, decided to consult with the lord of Sun City, Master Mazda-Moodi.
Guardian Isis used a key to open the door to the Meditation Chamber, and the thick fog and stifling heat that met him made it uncomfortable. Without hesitation, he quickly entered the Meditation Chamber.
In the midst of a large area of lotus leaves and ponds, a giant witch toad was asleep, sitting cross-legged on a golden throne, his chest rising and falling steadily, constantly emitting thick smoke.
Isis wasn't sure if Master Mazda-Moodi was asleep or meditating, but he operated the magical mechanism left by the ancient saints in the traditional way to awaken the witch toad.
"Huh~" The magical energy woke Mazda-Moodi.
It took the slan high priest several minutes to open his eyes:
"The son of the ancient saints has appeared, tell Kuga to stop the fight!"
"Yes!"

There may be some who question why Kuga is so powerful, but those familiar with the background story should know about Kuga's strength, as I have explained several times in previous texts.
