Chapter 100
The Villainous Noble Who Kept Rewinding After Death: The Story Somehow Changed When I Committed Suicide
Episode 100 – Reason
After finishing my conversation with the academy principal, I made my way to the classroom to join Fiera and the others, heading towards the usual spot where the three of them were gathered.
“Did you finish talking?”
“Yeah. I delivered the message.”
“Right. There were a few things, but it’s fine.”
“I see. We’ve wrapped up our discussion too, so let’s head back to the inn soon. Sonia, as you heard, we’re quitting this academy today. Thanks for everything you’ve done for us.”
Just as I said that and was about to leave the classroom with Fiera and the others, I inexplicably felt Sonia tugging on my clothes from behind, stopping me.
“What is it?”
“Please. I want to…”
“No way. Absolutely not.”
“You haven’t even heard me out till the end!”
Sigh. “Listen, this is the third time I’ve gone through this with you. I can more or less guess what you want to say. There’s no need to hear it. So it’s impossible.”
Before leaving the mansion, Miria and Shuvina had the same look on their faces as Sonia did now when they first joined me.
By now, it was obvious to me what she was going to say.
“You’re going to ask to be taken with us, aren’t you? I’ve got no intention of bringing you along, so just give up.”
“…Tell me the reason.”
“Fine, but are you really going to be satisfied with it?”
“I’ll decide after I hear it.”
Haa. “First off, there’s a massive gap in strength between you and us. We don’t have the leisure to take care of you right now.
Next, there’s no benefit. Look at Fiera. I permitted her because she can fight close-range, and Shuvina is needed for my next destination, so I allowed her too. But truth be told, you don’t have outstanding power right now, nor is there a scene ahead where it’ll be crucial.
I can use magic, and Shuvina can too. By contrast, you’ve only just started using magic recently. Bringing someone like you along would only be a burden.
Lastly, it’s a matter of spirit. I’m not asking you to be ready to die, but honestly, bringing you along when you don’t even have the resolve to fight would just be obstructive.
When we were attacked by assassins before, you thought about using yourself as bait but never considered fighting alongside us.
Moreover, upon learning that secret, you chose not to fight and instead pretended it didn’t happen.
Even though your life was targeted long before you found out about that secret.”
“That was for the good of this country!”
“Sure, if we look at it from a surface-level notion of peace, then you’re not entirely wrong. But did you even consider this? If you did nothing, those guys would have killed your family.”
“What do you mean?”
“The day I released your magic power. That day, assassins headed towards your mansion. It was Shuvina’s contracted spirit that protected you.”
“R-really?”
When Sonia asked, Shuvina glanced at me before confirming and began to narrate what happened back then.
“Yes, it’s true. Following Eir’s instructions, I sent Dōna to your mansion. The outcome was just as Eir had anticipated; assassins attacked your mansion. But don’t worry! Dōna dealt with the assassins.”
“N-no way…”
“See? Even if you did nothing, they were planning to kill you. If you leave enemies unchecked in the name of the country or the people, you will eventually lose something truly precious.
You failed to make that critical decision this time. You couldn’t decide to fight for what is important to you.
That’s the main reason you aren’t coming with us.”
After I finished saying that, Sonia powerless sank to the floor, looking down.
“Plus, you called this country peaceful, but in reality, the royal family has teamed up with the demon race to commit atrocities. How is that peaceful? You were simply too ignorant.”
Sonia said nothing more and continued to sit on the floor weakly, unable to comprehend what I was saying.
“Well, that’s all. This is our goodbye. We probably won’t meet again, so take care.”
“See you, Sonia.”
“Take care. I was happy to become friends with you.”
We exchanged final words and turned our backs to Sonia as we exited the classroom.
On our way, we passed Hamiru, who was heading toward the classroom. After a brief greeting, we returned to the inn.
Since we would be leaving the country the next early morning, we planned to rest early that day.
Then, the next day. As we stepped out of the inn while it was still dim outside, we completed our arrangements and headed through the gate.
From here, we would run to our next destination, so we warmed up while chatting.
“By the way, do you think Sonia will be okay?”
“What’s up with that?”
“I’m worried about her mental state since you threw so many harsh words at her.”
“Is that so? I just told her the truth when she asked for a reason.”
“That’s fine. It’s all true. Would you have preferred if Shuvina had said kinder words?”
When Fiera asked Shuvina, she shook her head in denial.
“No. It’s not that I think this, but I believe she needs to understand her current situation. I also think she should correct her shallow thinking and her inability to face reality. But…”
“But what?”
“Somehow, I feel like we’ll meet her again.”
With a serious expression, Shuvina said that while casting her gaze toward me for some reason.
“Who knows? The chances seem low. Besides, we don’t even know where we are, nor does she have any ties to us in this country. It might just be your imagination.”
Since I passed through this country and greatly altered Sonia’s future, the reason for her to follow us to the Empire had disappeared.
In that case, we probably wouldn’t meet again, and she shouldn’t know who I am, so chasing after us shouldn’t even be feasible.
“Who knows? While I’m at it, girls sometimes do unexpected things,” she mused.
“Well, coming from you, it sounds convincing.”
“That’s true.”
“Yeah, you’re quite something too.”
After hearing that, Fiera tilted her head for some reason, but I knew she was quite the wild card.
Lately, she hadn’t been hiding her feelings towards me at all. Whenever there’s a chance, she jumps at me, and seeks affection too.
It could be her species, but her dependence on me seems to be nearing an alarming level.
And Shuvina, when she joined our group, didn’t hesitate to threaten me either.
Though not as much as Fiera, her behavior seemed quite odd too.
(Thinking about it this way, I realize I don’t have anyone normal around.)
While I watched the two of them, those thoughts crossed my mind, but then I recalled that I wasn’t normal myself, concluding that perhaps we were just a bunch of misfits together.
After finishing our warm-up, we took off running towards our next destination.
The next destination was the Elf Country, the Kingdom of God Tree, Otinia. If past events are any indication, it was about time for this country to be destroyed by the demon race, so I was headed to the Elf Country to seek strong foes to fight.
A month after Lewis and the others left the Magic Kingdom Falmel, a new system was established in this country.
This system abolished the monarchy, where the king was at the top, and instead, the heads of five noble families and the chairman of the Magician Association, all descended from the disciples, would cooperate to govern the country.
Initially, many from other families sought to become the next king, but this matter was left to the academy principal, who used every means to have this system recognized.
Under this system, while the king had made the final decisions up until now, important matters would be discussed and decided among the heads of the noble families and the chairman of the Magician Association.
For other tasks, the upper management of the independent Magician Association would handle them, and for fairness, the current chairman of the Magician Association stepped down, making way for the former chairman, the academy principal, to temporarily sit in that position.
Moving forward, strict examinations and tests would be held, and selected individuals would take on the role of the new chairman of the Magician Association through public voting.
Amidst this new system, one girl was fervently practicing magic under a new master every day.
“Hmm. You’ve significantly improved your control over magical power.”
“Thank you, Master.”
“However, don’t push yourself too hard, okay?”
Sonia, who was bombarded with harsh words by Lewis, hadn’t been able to recover for a while after that.
However, upon learning of the king’s misdeeds and witnessing the country’s change in structure, with the academy principal becoming her master, a change was occurring within her heart.
“I understand. But I hate staying ignorant like this. I’ve decided not to turn a blind eye to reality anymore.”
The words spoken by Lewis, Fiera, and Shuvina were all valid, and Sonia became aware that she had only been seeing the surface until now.
From that point on, she faced the teachings Lewis had given her head-on, while also training diligently under the academy principal to enhance her abilities.
“I will definitely chase after him. And this time, I’ll make him acknowledge me!”
To Sonia, the magician Lewis was her idol.
He had lifted the magic placed on her, knew many spells that she was oblivious to, and stood far above her as a fellow magician.
She could hardly help but admire him, despite their differing values; it was only natural.
“But, you don’t even know where he is, right? You might be better off giving up.”
“No. I’m definitely going to find him. I already have a plan for that.”
The academy principal didn’t want Sonia accompanying Lewis on his arduous path and always tried to stop her with various excuses, but she showed no signs of giving up at all.
In the end, that day too, the academy principal couldn’t persuade Sonia to give up, only watching her as her magical skills steadily improved.
“Eir. I will definitely find you. And when I do, next time for sure…”
Continuing to encourage herself with her unyielding spirit, Sonia diligently practiced magic until the day she would find Lewis.
