The Villainous Noble Who Kept Rewinding After Death: The Story Somehow Changed When I Committed Suicide

Episode 101: Kingdom of God Tree

It’s been a month and a half since we left the Magic Kingdom Falmel, and we finally made it to a point where we could see the Kingdom of God Tree, Otinia.

Actually, since Otinia is a country built around the gigantic World Tree, I had been able to see the World Tree for quite some time.

However, because the World Tree is so enormous, the path after spotting it felt lengthy, and only now could we finally see the forest surrounding the country.

“What an amazing forest.”

“Yeah. All I can see are trees.”

When I looked closely, I realized everything around was just trees, and there was no sign of a town anywhere.

“The town of Otinia is deeper inside this forest. The country isn’t all that large by size, but with the forest included, Otinia is probably the biggest of them all.

And this forest has a special magic that confuses people with bad intentions, making them lose their way.”

Hearing Shuvina’s explanation, I gathered magic power in my eyes to take a good look at the forest again, and I could indeed see that magic was cast all around the entire forest.

“Wow. How do they even cast magic on a forest this size?”

“Well, there’s a royal castle in the center of this country. There’s an artifact deep inside. That artifact is what’s maintaining this barrier.”

An artifact is a magical tool created during the time of ancient civilizations, and the magical tools from that era, which had technology far superior to today’s, hold immense power, much like this barrier.

“You really know a lot.”

“Well, my mother is the sister of the current queen.”

“Huh?”

“In other words, I’m related to the royal family. So, I’ve been to the royal castle a few times and have met the royals as well.”

“So, you’re kinda like a noble?”

“No, while I did lead a decent life, I’m not technically a noble.

This country is a bit special, you see? Unlike humans, we don’t categorize people as nobles or commoners.”

As I was completely confused and asked her to elaborate, it turned out that in this country, although there is a king at the top, everyone basically cooperates to live together.

Thus, they don’t divide status by titles like humans do; instead, there are four regions managed by district heads who have governed them for generations.

And it seems Shuvina’s mother is the head of the eastern district among those four, and that the prince fell in love at first sight with her aunt when they met incidentally before eventually tying the knot.

“I could tell from the way you talk, but you really did have quite the good background.”

“Yep. Perfect for Shuv.”

“Come on. Don’t tease us together. Let’s go now.”

Feeling slightly embarrassed by those words, Shuvina turned her long ears red and glanced away before walking further into the forest.

“Hehe. Let’s go, El.”

Fiera smiled slightly at her and then took my hand, leading me forward.

And so we stepped into the Kingdom of God Tree, Otinia, our final destination.

After walking about 30 minutes into the forest, a gigantic wooden gate, quite a strange sight, appeared in front of us.

Above that gate was something resembling a watchtower, and I could feel several gazes looking down at us from it.

“This is the gate to enter the country. There are four gates in total, one for each district.

This is the eastern district managed by my parents, so it should open soon if we just wait here.”

As she explained this, a man came down from the watchtower and landed slowly on the ground, using wind magic to break his fall.

“Are you Shuvina? It’s been a while.”

“Long time no see, Jill.”

“Are you done with your journey?”

“Not yet, actually. It seems my companion needs to visit the Elf Kingdom, so we’re temporarily back.”

“I see.”

The man called Jill then looked at Fiera and me with evident caution.

“Are you two Shuvina’s companions? For what reason have you come to this country?”

“What’s with all the caution, Jill? Why are you so wary of them?”

Shuvina seemed puzzled by Jill’s unusual level of wariness and asked for the reason.

“First, I needed to hear why they’ve come here. I’m sorry to suspect Shuvina’s companions, but it’s necessary at the moment.”

“Right. Our reason for coming here… Well, saying it might make me sound suspicious, but I’ll say it anyway. We’re here to help this country.”

“Help… you say?”

“Yeah.”

Upon hearing that, Jill showed even more suspicion, gripping his spear tighter as if ready to act at a moment’s notice.

“The situation in this country is apparently dire, isn’t it? For instance, the World Tree has mysteriously started to weaken, and no one knows the cause yet.”

“Wha?!”

“W-What do you mean, El?! The World Tree is weakening?!”

“I know the cause. And I came to eliminate it. So, what’s it gonna be? Will you send us away and lose any leads, or will you listen to what I have to say… your choice.”

“… Please wait. I can’t decide this alone. I’ll ask the king.”

“No problem. This is an important matter for the country, so take your time discussing it.”

Jill looked unsettled as he observed me but then floated into the air with wind magic and went inside the gate.

“Eir, what was that all about?”

“I’ll explain later. It’s a hassle to explain twice.”

Then Shuvina asked about what I just said, but I left her hanging, sitting with my back against the tree.

“Gonna take a nap?”

“Huh? Yeah, it’s likely to take a while, so I’ll sleep until then.”

“Then, you can use my lap.”

“If that’s the case, I’ll take you up on that.”

Fiera sat beside me and lightly patted her lap, so I took her up on the offer.

When she noticed I lay down, she wrapped her tail around my waist.

“I’ll wake you when we get back.”

“Ah, please do.”

“Goodnight.”

With those words from Fiera, I quickly fell asleep from the fatigue of using exploration magic the entire way here.

As soon as Lewis began to snore, Shuvina, who had been restlessly wandering nearby, approached Fiera.

“Is he asleep?”

“Yep.”

“He really can sleep well. I can’t seem to relax at all after what just happened.”

After watching Lewis sleep comfortably and seeing Fiera gently stroke him, Shuvina felt it was silly to be anxious alone and sat down beside Fiera.

“How’s Eir doing?”

“Hmm. He seems pretty tired.”

“I see. Even he finds it tough using exploration magic while avoiding the barrier created by the artifact.”

Lewis appeared to have been using exploration magic to search for something since we entered the forest.

What that was, the two of them didn’t know, but they could tell he was significantly drained both mentally and magically.

“Let’s let him rest for now.”

“Yeah, it’s definite that we’ll need Eir’s strength no matter what happens from here on out.”

The two remained quietly sitting, concerned for Lewis, until Jill returned.
