The Villainous Noble Who Kept Rewinding After Death: The Story Somehow Changed When I Committed Suicide

Episode 105: From My Perspective…

That night, I was staying at Shuvina’s house, reminiscing about what had just happened.

“Cecil-san. That person is definitely a powerful one. Fiera and the others were calm because they were used to my magic power, but that person withstood it right away. Plus, the depth of that person’s strength was unfathomable.”

Kaylee was said to be a great warrior, being a king and all, but Cecil’s strength easily surpassed his.

However, her magic power itself wasn’t overwhelmingly high, so the only possibility I could think of was that the spirit she contracted with was quite formidable.

“At the very least, it’s an advanced or perhaps a top-tier spirit.”

Spirits are categorized into four levels, from low to high: basic, intermediate, advanced, and top-tier. Above them exists the Spirit King, a fantasy being.

As the rank increases, the number of spirits decreases, and those who can contract with advanced spirits are already few, let alone those who can manage to contract with a top-tier spirit—only a handful exist.

This is for multiple reasons; first, the contractor’s body must be strong enough to endure a contract with that spirit, and compatibility with the spirit is also crucial.

And spirits are notoriously capricious, possessing unique selection criteria for contracting partners that increase with their intelligence as rank rises.

In other words, unless one possesses exceptional abilities and meets those criteria, they cannot contract with a spirit above the advanced rank.

“But that raises a question. Why was there a powerful person like Cecil-san but in the past, they lost to the Hydra?”

If we assume the spirit contracted by Cecil is a top-tier spirit, then in terms of monsters, they should be at least SS rank.

So, it shouldn’t be easy for her to lose to the Hydra, which is also SS rank, even if she faced some difficulty…

“There has to be something behind it.”

Realizing that there might be something hidden in this country, I didn’t know what it was yet, but I decided to keep it in mind just in case.

—Side Shuvina—

After guiding Lewis and Fiera to an empty room, Shuvina was called by her parents and Kaylee, and the four of them began to talk.

“Shuvi, welcome back again. I’m glad you made it back safely.”

“Thank you, Dad.”

“Did you have fun on your journey?”

“Yes. At first, it was tough, but after meeting those two, it really became enjoyable.”

“I see. Looks like you made some good companions.”

Kaylee watched the parent-child exchange between Shuvina and Pale, while Cecil prepared a simple meal for Shuvina and set it on the table.

“I know you just ate, but you can still manage a bit more, right Shuvi?”

“Of course! Thank you, Mom.”

After finishing their discussion with Lewis, they enjoyed the dinner Cecil had prepared, but Shuvina felt a bit hungry, so additional food was quite welcome.

“By the way, you seem a bit different somehow, Shuvina.”

“Kaylee-san said the same thing. Have I changed that much?”

“Oh, you’ve changed quite a bit! Before, you seemed easily tricked and worried, but now you look pretty composed.”

“Yeah. Before, you had this vibe of someone who’d get lost and end up starving to death, but now you don’t seem to have that worry anymore.”

“Ugh…”

Pale’s words hit too close to home since it directly reflected her earlier encounter with Lewis, causing Shuvina to stumble over her words.

Naturally, Cecil caught on to her reaction, his expression one of disbelief as he pressed her.

“Shuvi, you didn’t really end up starving to death, did you?”

“…I did.”

“Haah. I can’t believe you were that clueless.”

“But! Thanks to that, I met Eir and the others!”

“That’s just luck. What would you have done if you were picked up by thieves or weirdos?”

Cecil was right; had Shuvina been picked up by ruffians, she wouldn’t be here now.

In fact, her dignity as a woman could have been stripped away, perhaps even sold to some twisted noble.

Even Shuvina understood this well enough, leaving her unable to respond to Cecil’s rebuke.

“Cecil. Let’s leave it at that. More importantly, Shuvina, can you tell us about your companions? I want to know what kind of people they are and what kind of journey you’ve had for judgment purposes.”

Kaylee asked Shuvina with a serious expression, and after a nod, Shuvina began recounting her experiences with Lewis.

“I met them when I had collapsed on the road to the bay city of Minerva in the Empire. At first, they were both going to leave me behind, but I begged them desperately for help and got saved.”

“Shuvi, we need to talk later, so be prepared.”

“Eek!?”

Shuvina trembled with fear at Cecil’s imposing aura and hid behind Pale, starting to shake slightly.

“Cecil, stop intimidating Shuvina; we’re not making any progress here. So? What happened next?”

“W-well, after that, they escorted me to the city of Minerva before we parted ways. We had just met, and they seemed to have their own goals.”

A few days later, when I challenged a C-rank dungeon alone, Eir saved me just when my magic was running out and I was going to be killed by a monster.

Later, I joined up with Eir, and Dōna had gotten close to him. So, I asked to join their party.”

“Dōna got close to a human?”

“Yeah. I was surprised too, but Dōna has really taken a liking to Eir, to the point she prefers his magic power over mine.”

“Really?”

“She doesn’t seem to know why, but it’s a fact I’ve witnessed with my own eyes.”

Upon hearing Shuvina’s explanation thus far, the three of them fell silent in thought.

However, they had no clue why Dōna was so attached to Eir, and whether it was just Dōna or if other spirits also felt the same—it seemed they would need to investigate that separately later.

“So, you got to join the group because you begged them, right?”

“No, that’s how it ended up, but at first, they rejected me. They said I’d be a hindrance.

But I insisted to the point of forcing my plea, and it seems he had intended to come here all along so I managed to tag along somehow.”

“That’s true; there are conditions to enter this country. So, they used you for that, huh?”

“Well, that’s how it went. After that, for about half a year, I attended the magic academy in the Magic Kingdom due to some business.

A lot happened there, but it’s not important right now, so I’ll skip to the part where we arrived here according to our original purpose.”

“I see.”

Having finished her explanation about the journey, Shuvina then pushed her empty plate aside and picked up a fork for dessert.

“Now that I understand the background leading up to your arrival, what about their personalities? I’d like to know about their human qualities too.”

When Kaylee asked about Lewis’s characteristics, Shuvina’s hand, which was about to eat the dessert cake, paused, and she slowly returned her fork to the plate.

“First off, Fiera is calm, as you can see. Generally kind but a bit laid-back.

Also, it might have to do with her race, but she absolutely believes whatever Eir says. Plus, she really likes him and hates when other men touch her, so it’s best not to get too friendly. Last time, she almost killed a wannabe adventurer who tried to touch her.

As for Eir…”

“Is there something wrong with him? Is there an issue with his personality?”

“‘Issue’ might not be the right word. I just don’t quite understand him.”

“You don’t understand him?”

“He generally enjoys lounging around and likes fighting. He’s hardly interested in anything other than getting stronger—that includes his own life; he will fight strong opponents without hesitation, even if it leads to his death.

I’ve never seen him in a dying state, but once, Fiera mentioned that no matter how close to death he got, he’d be fighting with a smile on his face.

Not that he’s completely uninterested in people. He’s somewhat kind to those he recognizes and is very caring.

But he shows no mercy to enemies. He crushes them into a state where they can’t recover physically or mentally and ensures they never mess with him again.

I think he has some sort of line drawn within himself, but I have no idea what it is.

It’s like there are many versions of him, and his personality shifts based on the situation. However, there’s one thing that remains unchanged.”

“What’s that?”

“This might just be my and Fiera’s instinct, but I think Eir intends to die. But he enjoys fighting and getting stronger, so it seems he’s come to accept that if he ends up dying from fighting strong enemies, that’s fine with him.”

As the three pondered Shuvina’s insights into Lewis, they fell silent again, but this time for a different reason.

Even though Lewis himself had said just hours ago that he wasn’t afraid of dying, the three couldn’t help but feel there was a hint of deceit in those words.

If it ever came down to it, they thought he might run away to save his own life, but upon hearing Shuvina’s perspective about Lewis, it hit them that those words were genuinely meant.

“This is a dilemma.”

“Indeed. It sounds harsh to say, but getting swept up in his values, which are almost akin to a desire for self-destruction, isn’t something we can easily accept.”

“Yet, his skills are undeniable. You all realized that firsthand, right? It’s a fact that we can’t defeat the Hydra alone, so I think we need to have a serious discussion with them as well.”

Afterward, the three talked until the early hours about what they should do, but ultimately couldn’t reach a conclusion, leading Kaylee to return to the castle to discuss matters with others.
