Chapter 114
The Villainous Noble Who Kept Rewinding After Death: The Story Somehow Changed When I Committed Suicide
Chapter 114: Demon Race
Fiera and I, having entrusted Ryan to Shuvina, were sprinting full speed towards the Hydra.
“What an incredible presence.”
“Yeah, it’s overwhelming.”
As we approached the location where the Hydra was sealed, an unprecedented feeling of intimidation and murderous intent reached us from deep within.
It was as if our skin was being scorched, and while an ordinary person would be terrified and flee, Fiera and I couldn’t help but laugh with excitement.
“Hehe. This is fun, El.”
“Absolutely. It’s been a while since I faced such palpable killing intent.”
Since battling the Forest King Build in the Adonaria Territory of the Empire, I hadn’t encountered an enemy radiating such strength and malice, and my chest filled with exhilaration.
(I absolutely love this feeling of death looming over me.)
Perhaps this time I could really die or might not make it out unscathed.
But that realization stirred a sensation of living in my broken heart, and just imagining how much I could grow once I defeated it sent shivers down my spine.
“Let’s hurry.”
“Yeah.”
After that, we dashed through the forest, enveloped by the killing intent wrapping around our bodies.
“Such tremendous magic power.”
“Right? Also, it seems the poisonous mist that was here last time got sucked into that vortex.”
Before us at the Hydra’s sealed location was an immense whirlpool of magical energy, and the toxic mist that had filled the area on our previous visit had vanished.
From that vortex surged powerful waves of force I had never felt in this life, making it seem as though the temperature had dropped just in this spot.
“So? Who are you?”
“Hehe. Oh my, it seems I’ve been discovered.”
Emerging from the shadows of a tree was a hunched man wielding a long staff, dressed in tattered robes.
His essential face was obscured by a deep hood, but his voice hinted he was likely a man.
“You’re amusing. You hid so poorly, did you want to be found?”
“Hehe. You’re quite perceptive. If you hadn’t noticed, I could have killed you with ease. So, what brings you here?”
The man, laughing eerily, asked about our reason for being there, but his tone felt oddly confident.
“Well, what do you think?”
“Hmm. Most likely, you’ve come to defeat the Hydra to protect the Elven Kingdom? Since the revival of the Hydra isn’t complete yet, you’d like to prevent its resurrection in the meantime, right?”
“However, I’d rather not be interrupted, so it seems I’ll have to deal with you until the Hydra fully revives.”
As the man said, the Hydra’s resurrection wasn’t entirely perfected yet; it continued gathering magical power from the air, and it looked like it would take a bit longer.
“I see. Then I’ll just wait here until it comes back.”
I sat back against a nearby dead tree with Fiera and took out a drink from my storage while gazing at the Hydra.
“…Huh? What are you doing? Aren’t you going to stop the Hydra’s revival?”
The man, a bit annoyed, readied his staff into a fighting stance, but upon seeing us sit down, he lowered his staff, evidently caught off guard.
“It seems you misunderstood something, so let me clarify: we came here to fight the Hydra. We’re not here to protect the Elven Kingdom or with any sense of justice. So right now, I’m not interested in tangling with you, and let’s just sit here and wait until the Hydra comes back.”
“W-wait? Is that alright? If the Hydra revives, you could die, you know? And the Elven Kingdom might perish as well. Don’t you feel fear or guilt?”
The man, who should be the very cause trying to resurrect the Hydra and destroy the Elven Kingdom, strangely spoke in sound reasoning, but I looked at him and shared my thoughts.
“Not at all. I’m only interested in fighting stronger opponents, not in dying. If I die while fighting, then so be it.
Besides, why should I fight for someone else? If I die, it’s just their fate, right? I won’t lose any sleep feeling guilt or regret for the dead.”
“…Well then.”
Listening to me, the man looked somewhat exasperated but also seemed to understand my perspective.
“Hehe. I don’t dislike that way of thinking. It feels more aligned with us of the Demon Race than with humans. In that case, I shall wait until the Hydra revives as well. Oh, by the way, I haven’t introduced myself yet. I’m Wool. If you don’t mind, may I ask for your names?”
“I’m Eir. This is Fiera.”
“Hehe. Lord Eir and Lady Fiera, I’ll remember that.”
Saying this, the man turned and headed toward the tree on the opposite side, keeping his gaze fixed on the magical vortex where the Hydra awaited.
“El, what should we do about that demon?”
“Not sure. Our goal this time is Hydra, so if he runs away, I plan to do nothing. Actually, I’m starting to think that would be better.”
“Why’s that?”
Perhaps not understanding the meaning of my words, Fiera asked, genuinely curious.
“Because that seems more entertaining, right? If he goes back to the Demon Domain and tells someone about me, they might come directly after me. In that case, I’d get to fight someone even stronger. Can you think of anything more exciting?”
Smirking at that, I saw Fiera shaking her head before she leaned her body against my shoulder.
“Nothing. But my happiest times are when I’m with you, El.”
“…Don’t say that now. It ruins the mood here.”
“Hehe. If I don’t say what I’m thinking at the moment, it has no meaning.”
Even though she might die soon, Fiera smiled blissfully, inappropriately for the situation, and wrapped her tail around my waist.
“I wonder if Shuvina is okay?”
“Are you worried?”
Fiera nodded slowly and glanced in the direction where Shuvina was likely standing.
“She’ll be fine. From what I can tell, there wasn’t a huge strength gap. It just depends on how well she can think on her feet and her will to fight.”
“Her willingness to kill and her willingness to die.”
“Yeah. She’s never taken a life before, so if she hesitates at that moment, it could be trouble. And whether she can unleash her power without fear of death is crucial. If she can’t do that, she’ll just end up dead.”
“That makes sense.”
Unlike me, Fiera didn’t know this world was repeating, and since her meeting with Shuvina was also happening for the first time, she seemed worried as she nodded.
“Well, we might die soon too.”
“Yeah. If we’re going to die, let’s die together.”
After that, I closed my eyes and waited for a while until the magical vortex settled, and the air shifted.
“…Finally.”
“Yeah.”
When I opened my eyes and looked toward where the magical vortex had been, there was an enormous beast with nine heads, covered in purple scales, and nearly 35 meters long, surveying the world outside as if enjoying its long-awaited freedom.
“Hehe. Finally resurrected! Now! This is where the real show begins! Thank you for your patience, Lord Eir and Lady Fiera! Please do fight and die so I can witness the true power of the revived Hydra!”
“I’d fight even if you didn’t ask.”
“Yeah. I’ll go all out.”
“…GAAAAAAAHHHH!”
The Hydra surveyed the surroundings before letting out a roar that shook the air, making it feel heavier.
“Hehe. I can’t get enough of this atmosphere! It’s truly the best!”
With that Hydra before me igniting my excitement to its peak, I took a step forward and slowly walked towards it.
“Now! Can you kill me?”
With those words as a cue, I activated my physical enhancement and kicked the ground hard, closing the distance between Fiera, myself, and the Hydra.
In that instant, the long-awaited battle with the Hydra was finally about to commence.
