Chapter 121
The Villainous Noble Who Kept Rewinding After Death: The Story Somehow Changed When I Committed Suicide
Chapter 121: Clumsy Girl
After leaving Shuvina’s house, we were slowly walking towards the royal castle.
“Ah, it’s nice to be outside again after a while.”
It’s been two weeks since I fought the Hydra. After resting in the room at Shuvina’s house for that long, the sunlight hitting me for the first time in two weeks felt really good.
“But my body feels pretty sluggish. Fiera, once I’ve recovered a bit more, let’s have a mock battle.”
“Got it!”
Fiera seemed delighted to have a chance to spar with me again, wagging her tail excitedly as she walked ahead.
“Eir, you okay? If you feel like you’re going to fall, you can grab my arm, you know?”
“Are you my mom? This isn’t Shuvina we’re talking about; I’m not going to trip here.”
“N-No! When did I ever trip?!”
“On the way to Minerva.”
“That’s different! I just collapsed from hunger! Shuvina is clumsy, that’s a fact, but—”
“Even you, Fiera, are treating me like a clumsy girl?!”
It seems I’m not the only one who thinks Shuvina is clumsy; hearing that from Fiera made Shuvina’s eyes slightly water.
“Well, whether Shuvina is clumsy or not at this point is irrelevant…”
“That’s a really harsh way to say it!”
“By the way, I’ve been curious about something: how did Kaylee go to check on the World Tree?”
This country is situated in the western part of a vast forest surrounding the World Tree, so it’s quite far away.
If it’s me and Fiera, we could leave in the morning and return by evening, but for elves who aren’t as physically capable as beastmen, it would probably take a day and a half to get there.
“Ask Kaylee directly. Don’t ask me.”
It seemed Shuvina was sulking from our earlier conversation, crossing her arms and looking away.
“That’s true. Normally, if I asked you and you were able to give me all the answers, despite being a relative of the royal family, that would be way too much information leakage. If I were the king, I’d probably consider it treason and chop off your head.”
Back when I had just come to this country, I had asked Shuvina about the barrier magic set up in the forest, and she had casually told me that it was the power of an artifact and even where it was located.
At that time, I was fascinated by the barrier of the artifact and didn’t comment, but thinking about it now, that was quite an important matter for the elven nation, not something you should just share casually.
“Idiot.”
Shuvina muttered that while giving me a slight glare, probably because I said something different from what she was expecting.
However, it seemed she understood what I was saying, as she didn’t say anything more.
(I can guess what she wanted to hear, but there’s no way I’m going to go out of my way to make someone feel better.)
She seemed to hope that I would apologize and cheer her up, but I had no interest in people’s moods.
In fact, during battle, I usually provoke my opponents to anger, so hoping for such a thing from me was futile.
After that, while taking in the atmosphere of the town, we finally reached the royal castle, where the guards checked with Kaylee and guided us to a room in the castle.
The royal castle of the Kingdom of God Tree had a much calmer atmosphere compared to those of other countries, with not many decorations, and the unpretentious feeling was very much to my liking.
“This castle is nice. Maybe I could take this as an apology gift.”
“Haha. Please don’t. I’d have nowhere to live!”
While joking like that in the room we were guided to, Kaylee entered with a strained look on his face, as if he had just taken a break from work.
“I’m just kidding. This place certainly is nice, but it’s far too boring for me.”
Even if I actually got to take this castle, this closed-off country was just too peaceful for me, and I’d find it too tedious to live here.
“I see. I’ve gotten so used to it that I can’t relate to that feeling.”
Kaylee said that then sat down on the sofa, taking a sip of the tea that was served to him.
“You look quite tired.”
“Well, yeah. With what happened with Ryan, and there are so many things I need to do right now.”
Kaylee, feeling responsible for what happened to Ryan, seems to have decided to step down from the throne in a year.
Right now, he’s busy with the handover work for that, practically working himself to the bone without much rest.
Fortunately, it seems that his successor, Kayle, is quite competent, and he doesn’t have much to teach him; at least in that respect, he’s getting off easy.
Also, during these past two weeks, it seems he managed the disposal of the Hydra’s remains and the collection of magic stones on our behalf, and we’d be getting all those materials later.
“Now then. That wraps up my side of things. Next, let’s hear about your story.”
“Understood.”
After that, we talked about Ryan, who had transformed into a monster in the forest, the battle with the Hydra after we split into two groups, and Shuvina went into detail about the confrontation with Ryan.
Finally, I made it clear that this whole incident was orchestrated by the demon named Wool and that Ryan was likely coaxed by him.
“I see. It seems my foolish son caused you trouble until the very end. I truly apologize. Also, thank you for subduing the Hydra. As the king of this country, I deeply appreciate it.”
Kaylee bowed deeply towards us and remained in that position, not moving.
“Well, yes. We were quite troubled this time. So, as promised, about the matter of teaching us spirit magic and receiving items from the treasury, we’d appreciate your help with that.”
“Haha! I understand. I’ll keep my promise. I’m thinking of heading to the treasury first; do you have time today?”
“Of course.”
Hearing my words seemed to ease Kaylee a bit, and he smiled a little brighter as he stood up to guide us to the treasury.
“Here it is.”
The treasury was located down a quiet hallway, where two elven guards were keeping watch.
As we walked between the two of them and entered the room, the magical tools sensed our presence and automatically lit up.
“Are these from the Magic Kingdom?”
“Ah, yes. When I was young, I found these in that country. I liked that they lit up automatically, so I bought quite a few.”
It seems Kaylee traveled outside the country in his youth, often buying things he liked to bring back home.
“Okay. Choose whatever you like from here.”
When told that, I looked around the treasury and saw many beautifully organized weapons and accessories, just browsing felt enjoyable.
“All right. Let’s each check out what catches our interest.”
“Got it.”
“Sure.”
The three of us split up to look at the interesting things or ones we might be able to use in the future, and after about two hours, we returned to the starting point to choose what to take.
“What did Fiera pick?”
“I chose a ring that enhances my reflexes and several scrolls inscribed with magic circles.”
“Nice choice.”
For Fiera, who fights with speed, having enhanced reflexes wouldn’t negatively affect her at all, and it was smart of her to choose scrolls to compensate for her inability to use elemental magic.
The scrolls allow one to use magic just by channeling their magic power into scrolls that have the magic circles pre-drawn on them, making them rare items that can only be obtained through drops in dungeons.
Moreover, the magic circles inscribed on the scrolls are intricate and complex, with many terms that are often incomprehensible, so it’s not possible to reproduce them in modern times.
“What about you, Shuvina?”
“I picked a quiver with space magic that can hold lots of arrows and a dagger infused with dark magic for self-defense.”
“Hmm. Good choice.”
When I appraised what Shuvina had chosen, indeed the quiver had space magic cast on it, and it could hold a significant number of arrows.
Plus, the dagger could also be used for self-defense, and if planted in the ground, it would create a 3-meter radius dark barrier, providing protection to anyone within it.
“What did you pick, El?”
“I just went for the items. There were some interesting weapons, but most were rapiers so I passed this time.”
“What items?”
“A teleportation item that Ryan used, a crystal that can show the registered person’s location, and a pair of artifacts that allow communication with registered individuals from a distance, plus a few other interesting things.”
I took the teleportation item because it might be useful, and the crystal that shows the registered person’s location was for keeping tabs on the protagonist’s location and those I was curious about.
As for the communicating earrings, I had never seen something like that before, and I was personally very interested in how they worked, plus there were some other items that looked interesting for further research, so I decided to take those.
“Can we have one?”
“Huh?”
As I finished explaining about the earrings, Fiera and Shuvina’s voices overlapped as they stared intently at them.
“We only have one pair, you know?”
“…Fiera, what if we leave it to chance? Like, we could flip a coin or something?”
“Okay.”
“Sure. Then let’s have Kaylee do the coin toss. By the way, using magic is a no-no.”
Shuvina explained the rules while handing a coin to Kaylee, and they began the game under the rules that the first one to get three correct guesses would win.
(Haha. This is why you’re clumsy. There’s no way you can win this challenge.)
Watching the match that I felt was already decided, I couldn’t help but sigh in exasperation at her silly behavior.
And then…
“I won!”
“No way… really?”
Of course, Fiera was the one who won the match, while Shuvina looked like she’d seen the end of the world, kneeling on the ground with her hands on it, feeling defeated.
“You really are clumsy, aren’t you?”
Ignoring the sight of Fiera happily taking one of the earrings and admiring it, I called out to the still-downtrodden Shuvina.
“Why am I clumsy?!”
“Because, it’s obvious. I’d understand if a normal person could win a coin toss, but considering reflexes are involved, there’s no way you could win! Fiera can see the coin’s rotation in slow motion, from that she can observe the falling speed and rotation, and continue to watch until Kaylee hides it, giving her the answer. There’s absolutely no way you could win!”
“Ah…”
It seemed Shuvina had been so focused on the earrings that she hadn’t thought that far, and upon my remark, she looked at me as if she just realized it.
“El, open the earrings for me later. I’m scared to do it myself.”
“Okay, okay, I got it. For now, let’s focus on learning spirit magic; we can deal with the earrings when we get back.”
“Mm.”
Afterward, I was satisfied with the good items I’d obtained, and Fiera seemed happier than usual, leaving the treasury with a light step.
On the other hand, Shuvina still looked gloomy, with Kaylee comforting her as he followed us from behind.
