Chapter 122
The Villainous Noble Who Kept Rewinding After Death: The Story Somehow Changed When I Committed Suicide
Chapter 122: Spirit of the Moon
After leaving the treasury, we arrived at the highest floor of the royal castle, guided by Kaylee.
“This is the door ahead. Go on in.”
Kaylee said this as he opened the door and ushered us inside.
“Is this a teleportation magic circle?”
As we entered the room, I saw that the entire floor was adorned with a teleportation magic circle, and Kaylee was in the center, preparing something with a knife in hand.
“That’s right. However, this magic circle is a bit special. It won’t react unless we drop royal blood right in the center of it.”
Kaylee explained to me, who was interested in the teleportation magic circle, but listening to him raised a question in my mind.
“I see. But who exactly made this? Teleportation should only be possible through dungeon magic circles or items, after all.”
This was the point I was wondering about; in modern times, no one fully understood teleportation magic or all magic circles, and since this place clearly wasn’t a dungeon, I couldn’t understand why such a special magic circle existed here.
“This was drawn long ago by a magician who visited this country. That magician claimed to be a magician who couldn’t use magic and apparently came to this country to investigate something of interest. As gratitude for that visit, I heard he used his knowledge of magic circles he was researching at the time to draw this teleportation magic circle.”
“A magician who can’t use magic…”
“Ah, yes. I believe his name was Igaru Scarlet. He’s said to have had quite a bit of knowledge about magic.”
(Just as I thought)
It seems that the one who painted the magic circle here was Sonia’s ancestor, the first sage.
I don’t know what he came here to investigate, but I had a feeling the reason was written in a book I acquired earlier.
(I’m curious, but I guess it’s alright if I don’t know just yet.)
“Well then, I suppose we should move on, alright?”
As I was pondering about the book, Kaylee, having finished his preparations, asked if we could move.
“By the way, where does this magic circle lead to?”
“That’s a surprise for when we arrive. Now, let’s go.”
Saying this, Kaylee lightly cut his hand with the knife and let a few drops of blood fall into the center of the magic circle.
Suddenly, the magic circle glowed red like blood, and we shut our eyes against the brilliance.
“This is the World Tree…”
When the light subsided and I opened my eyes, before me stood a tree so thick that I couldn’t see its width, and I instantly realized it was the World Tree.
“That’s right. The teleportation magic circle was designed to bring us here, in front of the World Tree. It’s a long way, so thanks to this, we’ve had it very easy.”
It seems the answer to what Shuvina mentioned was right here; indeed, using the teleportation magic circle would allow us to quickly come see the World Tree.
“I see. But why here? If it was just to learn magic, wouldn’t the royal castle have sufficed?”
“Usually, yes. However, what we’re teaching this time is spirit magic. To learn spirit magic, one must have a high affinity with nature.
That’s why humans who destroy nature to expand their territories tend to be disliked by spirits, but I heard you were liked by Dōna. Hence, I thought if you touched the spirits under the great World Tree in this country, you might be able to form a contract with them.”
“I see.”
Indeed, this place was thick with natural magic, and just being near the World Tree made me feel a strong sense of life energy.
“What you need to do is simple. Just focus your awareness while touching the World Tree. If the spirits find you interesting, they should start to interact with you.”
“Understood. You all wait here.”
“Got it.”
I left Fiera and the others behind and headed alone toward the roots of the World Tree, gently touching its thick trunk.
(Amazing energy. Just touching it floods me with power.)
As I closed my eyes, feeling the tremendous life energy of the World Tree, it felt like my body became one with the entire forest, allowing me to look over it as if my soul had detached.
Then, as my magic power flowed from my body into the World Tree, the next time I opened my eyes, the blue sky had darkened, and a full moon floated in the center.
“What’s going on? Why did it suddenly turn to night?”
I heard Shuvina’s confused voice from behind me, but I ignored it and looked up at the World Tree.
“…”
Before me stood a beautiful girl with long, blue-white hair that sparkled differently than my silver hair, amber eyes round like the moon, adorned in a deep navy dress reminiscent of dawn, gazing down at me intently.
“Could that be…?”
Kaylee seemed to know her identity, but now, the atmosphere was so quiet as if the whole world had fallen asleep, not allowing for any further words.
Then, as the girl gracefully descended before me, she slowly moved her pretty lips.
“I found you.”
“I found you? …Mmff!”
As I repeated her words out of confusion, she wrapped her arms around my neck, pulling me close and pressing her lips against mine without hesitation.
That kiss lasted for several seconds, and when she finally pulled away with a satisfied look, she leaned close to my ear and whispered softly.
“Now it’s your turn to find me.”
“What do you mean?”
“I’ll be waiting.”
With those final words, she vanished, and the dark sky returned to blue.
“El.”
“…Huh?”
After a while of staring at the World Tree, I turned to see Fiera approaching me, looking slightly angry.
“What’s wrong?”
“You just kissed someone!”
“Ah, more like I was kissed.”
“I got jealous. Who was that girl?”
“Beats me. I don’t know either.”
“That was the Spirit of the Moon.”
As I reflected on who she was, Kaylee, who seemed to know her, explained.
“The Spirit of the Moon? I’ve never heard of that before.”
“Of course not. Records of the Spirit of the Moon are scarce, and it’s more of a legend that’s passed down only among us royalty. It’s my first time seeing it with my own eyes too.”
“I see, a legendary spirit. I did indeed feel an incredible power. It felt more than just a fantasy species; it was power that matched a god.”
“That feeling is not wrong. The Spirit of the Moon is a higher existence than the spirit kings and is known as one of the primordial spirits that exist in this world. The other one is the Spirit of the Sun, and both existed from the dawn of this world, witnessing everything.
Later, the two primordial spirits bestowed their blessings upon the world— the sun provided blessings to the world, while the moon became the sole light that illuminated the dark world.
And it is said that these two lights brought stability to the world, leading to the birth of many spirits, including the spirit kings.
However, both suddenly disappeared, leaving only the symbols of their power, the sun and the moon, to shine upon us.”
“The primordial spirit, huh?”
“El. Do you really not know her?”
“Ah, I don’t.”
“Then why does she look at you with such affection…?”
As Shuvina spoke, her expression turned complex, mixed with emotions of regret and sadness, and she clenched her palm tightly.
“For now, let’s go back. We can talk about that later.”
Kaylee, seeming to care for us, said this and poured blood into the magic circle just like when we arrived, and we returned to the royal castle.
(No matter what Fiera or Shuvina think about what just happened, what I’m more concerned about is that spirit. Even though this should be my first time meeting her, why does she feel familiar? Plus, that aura of power…)
As we wrapped up today’s events, we each returned home to Shuvina’s house, lost in thought.
