The War of Extinction

It is hard to know when I will reach the next level as the system doesn't display it. But, if I can level up, I can get another skill which will be helpful for me.

I hope I will get the chance to level-up in my next mission, when I fight with the Steel Teeth Rats which will be the toughest battle that will improve my endurance attribute.

With the 30 hunters, I will get a chance to fight atlease 2 or 3 rats at bare minimum. The rats will be at F grade and will be easy to handle if there are less than 50.

I slept at 10:00 pm immediately after dinner so I can sleep long and be fresh for tomorrow's mission.

I woke up at 5:00 am, did meditation to relax my mind. Then I did my morning chores, took shower and went down to meet my parents.

I saw Zaana speaking with Dawn who has come to pick me for the mission. They once again stopped talking when they noticed me coming.

I could see a mischievous smile on Zaana while Dawn's face was full of blushing smile which reminded me of the conversation Dawn and her friend three days ago.

I smiled back at them as if I don't know what they are talking about. By the expression of my sister, I can confirm she is in this and will do what she can to finish what she had started.

I could see they are cooking a plan for something and I should be careful about it, which I will be. But first, I need to find what it is.

After a few minutes, my mother brought us the breakfast which has the rabbit meat, scrambled snake egg and fresh goat milk.

We had our breakfast while discussing about the mission. If we succeed in this mission we will get 50000 credits each and will also get a chance to be recruited by the Hammerand.

Most of the volunteers are coming in this mission for the opportunity to be recruited by the company which will help them improve their level and grade with their help.

Since her brother Max is in the company, completing this mission successfully will give Dawn a guaranteed recruitment in the company.

Being close to them, there is a possibility of being recruited by them if I get a good recommendation from both. Being in one of the top 5 companies will be helpful for me to raise in power, but I will lose my freedom.

The recruitment process is hard if we walk-in for the interview. If they see us in battle and we prove ourselves in front of the company management or have strong recommendations, we just have to sign a contract.

I don't want to join a company because of recommendation, like my parents want me to. If they wanted me to join a company, I would have been already recruited by the Security force.

I trust my potential and with that it will be easy for me to be recruited, but I need to be seen in action and the mission to exterminate the rats is going to be the best opportunity for it.

Not just the people from Hammerand will be watching us, but from the other companies will also be watching us to find the potential cadets for them.

We will be recruited as a temporary 'Cadet' With a contract of minimum three years. If we show improvement and complete the required number of missions. We will become the permanent 'Soldiers' in the company.

If not, we will be kicked out of the company and will have to search other companies to be recruited by them. Once kicked out of a company, it will be a life time ban where we will never be recruited again.

After the breakfast, we started immediately and reached the town's defence wall by 6:10 am. I could see three hunters have already reached the command tent of Hammerand and waiting for others.

They are newly awakened volunteers like me. They are keeping distance from each other, not having any casual conversation. It is because, we are competitors to each other.

The better we fight, the better chance we get to be recruited. Some will try to get to know our pros and cons so they can take advantage of it. Hence, it is better to not talk to them until the mission is completed.

We waited for another 20 minutes till all the volunteers have gathered. Now we have to wait for the hunters from Hammerand squad and it's management.

Myself and Dawn talked with each other to keep calm and most of the volunteers looked at me with sympathy thinking I am falling into a trap.

The teams from Hammerand reached by 6:30 am led by Max. They were followed by 2 men in fancy armor. They are the recruiters who will monitor our performance in the mission.

The volunteers gathered around them as they entered. Myself and Dawn stood at the back just nodding at Max as a greeting.

The recruiters sat at the desk in the corner of the room while few more people from Hammerand entered the room. They will be the back-up that will assist us when required.

We all received 2 potions of healing and 3 potions of energy to be used in the mission and complete it without any issues.

"We will be moving out in 10 minutes. Be prepared, follow the orders from the leader, Max." One of the recruiters said while we were receiving the potions gesturing towards Max.

Max stood to identify himself as the leader and nodded at the volunteers. "This is not my first time outside with volunteers, so I know how difficult it will be for you people to work together."

"Leave the recruitment and the competition behind. Work together as a unit and you will come back alive."

It was not an inspiring speech, but it covered pretty much everything we had in our mind, to erase it and concentrate on completing the mission.

All the volunteers looked at each other's faces with some nodding in agreeing with Max while some showed relaxation on their faces.

With those words in mind we did the final preparations needed to go on the mission, to exterminate the Steel Teeth Rats.
