The War of Extinction

Chapter 42: Victory

I feel tired mentally and physically after fighting for almost an hour using my Ice Armor, infusing my energy to the sword and performing the Battle Exercise, but I continue fighting with 1 thought in mind, Survive.

If I want to, I can go back and get some rest like most of the volunteers or drink an energy potion to replenish my endurance and stamina to continue fighting, but I want to push my limits so I can level-up sooner like how I did before.

I move around the battlefield fighting any monster I come across without minding the formation as it has become a chaos with everyone for themselves fighting the overwhelming number of monsters with everything we have.

I have killed more than 50 by this time and I can almost one-shot kill the E grade beetle monsters now as they are very weak in defense for me as I am performing the 13th move of Battle Exercise.

We still have 3 hours for the reinforcements to arrive and I will have to hold till then and try to improve, but for some reason I have a feeling I won't be able to make it till then as I am starting to feel weak as I have reached the limit of my body.

I go to the top of the defense wall where the healers are healing the minor injuries and have potions to give to the soldiers and volunteers who are in need. I get an energy potion and gulp it in seconds to rush back to the battlefield.

I start slashing the monsters that are coming close to me left and right and moving close to the front of the battle and see a huge wave of beetle monsters coming at us. By looking at the numbers, I immediately estimate the battle to continue minimum 6 more hours even with the reinforcements without the intervention of higher grade soldiers and volunteers.

If the Lieutenant in-charge or Jack joins the battle, it will be over within an hour or 2. They will not join unless it is deemed as unwinnable to save the town and it's people. It is not good to place one's trust on them in these kind of situations.

I start fighting with the new vigor and reach the 15th move when I see 6 E grade beetle monsters coming towards me and they look very angry clicking their mandibles ready to bite me and poke me with their sharp legs.

If I complete this move, I will be completing my 1st set and will get a permanent boost to my vitality, speed, endurance and strength which will increase my battle power by a notch.

With that in mind, I perform the last move aggressively while meeting the beetles head-on trying to use them as a stepping stone to get more power. I can already sense I am a stronger than these beetle monsters because of the 15th move, but fighting 6 of them together is a very bad move.

I am receiving many wounds every minute and the pain is excruciating due to the 15th move and the continuous assault form the monsters. After a few minutes of one-sided attack, I sense the wall blocking the completion of the 15th move breaking.

I couldn't control myself and start laughing as I have just completed the 1st set of the Battle Exercise, the Hell's Punishment in just a few months. I can feel energy coursing through my entire body that is strengthening my every cell and fiber. Now, my body and mind has the battle power equal to a Mid-F grade.

I will have to start performing the Battle Exercise again and this time since I already have a set completed, it will become my 2nd round of the exercise and will increase my power even more. But the problem is, the pain I have to bare will be far more than the pain I have endured so far.

As per the research that has been done on this exercise says I will have to bare the pain that is 3 times more than the previous set. I can only find it when I start performing it again, but now is not the time for it.

With the new energy coursing through my body, most of my wounds were healed and my mental fatigue also reduced a lot, most importantly I can feel I am close to level-up to the Mid-F.

I just have to hold for a while and I am sure I will also level-up and gain more battle power and the ability to store more element energy in my body. I am very happy as I am getting 2 things I wanted for a long time in a single day.

"Reinforcements.. Reinforcements are here!!" I hear the cheering voices of the soldiers and volunteers fighting with me, welcoming the reinforcements from above.

I look above and see at least 50 hover cars flying over the battlefield at 10 meters distance from the ground and the Defense Corp soldiers jumping directly into the battle reducing the pressure from everyone fighting for their lives.

I admire the scene for a second before starting to fend myself against the beetle monsters I am fighting. One of the soldiers jumps next to me and smashes the heads of 3 beetles like watermelon in a single strike using his two-handed mace.

I also kill the rest of the beetles at the same time using my newly found strength and speed. The soldier smiles at me and moves away to help others who are in need.

I also do the same as the hover cars have also landed in front of the battlefield creating a blockade to prevent the monsters to come close to the defense wall. This means, the monsters we kill will be the last of the monsters that will be coming towards the wall.

I also hear from one of the soldiers who came with the reinforcements that a squad of elite soldiers have entered the E Grade dungeon to clear it and stop the outbreak from the source.

With all the monsters killed near the defense wall, the Lieutenant in-charge announces the 'Victory' cautiously and let the volunteers to get back inside the defense wall to get healed and rest for a while.
