Chapter 411: Will You Help Me?
(From Blue's Perspective)
When Cyan told me he would help me, I did not believe him. The way he had no reason to help me, I had no reason to trust him either.
"Look around you. Haven't you seen how little work I have to do? How do you think I can stay here in your room almost all the time?" he said. "Because I have nothing to do. No one tells me to do anything. I am not worthy, they say, because I don't have enough black mana."
"Father doesn't love me as well. He doesn't care," he added. "So, tell me why would I stay here? Is there anything for me here? The simple answer is no."
"I don't trust you."
"That's up to you. You can take the last chance to leave, or just work as his pawn forever."
"…"
"Wipe your face. Gross!"
I washed my face and wiped it with a towel. I returned to my room slowly and sat down on the bed.
"How will you help me?" I asked, sitting down on the bed. With the pain on my back, it was hard to stand for a long time.
"I have my ways," he said. "But first, you have to know about your mission."
"You said you will help me."
"But the mission needs to be fulfilled not just because of him. Let me tell you about the mission first," he said and flopped on the bed beside me. "You know there are three paths between this world and your world?"
"Ah, yes," I nodded. Dem had told me about it.
"There will be three missions. You need to destroy those three paths forever," he said and I felt my breath get stuck in my throat. It was not like I ever planned to go back to that world. But I never thought of the possibility of losing the chance forever. "Why are you upset? Got someone special in that world?"
I immediately thought of Maxen. We were not particularly close, but in that household, he was the only one who cared for me. Did he know how I was? Dem said he gave him a good chance to live a good life. I still wished to see it with my own two eyes.
"Boyfriend?"
"I am married!"
"It's not like people don't have someone else to love even when they are married," he shrugged.
"I never had a boyfriend. I did not get the chance," I said.
"What a pity…," he mocked me with fake sincerity.
"I don't regret it," I grumbled. "I am talking about my brother."
"Ah, you have two brothers," he said.
"I am talking about one of them- Max," I said. "We were cool with each other. He was a good brother."
"Oh, good for you," he said.
It looked like he was saying, "I can't understand pesky emotions. But good for you."
"There have been many dark mages who tried to enter the other world. Can you guess why?"
"To try to have children with humans?"
"Wow, you seem to have a brain. I was wondering if that was missing, but it doesn't seem to be the case," he said. It annoyed me how he acted truly surprised. "A lot of dark mages found out about the experiment, thanks to a single mistake Azure made. One of the documents was lost because of a traitor. Although he killed the traitor, the document regarding the experiment was never found. Read the latest on empire
Only a few people know about the true identity of Azure even though they know about the experiment. Since then, a lot of dark mages have tried to do the same. Azure kept them away by putting his followers on guard near the three doors all the time."
"It means when Dem and I…"
"Yes, he was notified right away when King Demetrius went to your world three days before your birthday," he said. "That said, you call King Demetrius 'Dem'? That's so weird."
Dem told me he spent the other day exchanging money with someone. He gave that person gold and that person gave him dollars. I was sure that person won because Dem had no idea how valuable gold was in my world and what the value actually was.
"Why does Azure want to destroy it so suddenly?" I asked.
"Well, he has his reasons," he chuckled darkly. "Haven't you wondered why he wants to use your power and is kind of obsessed with your power when he is the black lord himself?"
If I said I did not wonder that, it would be a huge lie. I had been thinking about the same thing for a long time. It did not look like Azure just wanted to increase his power. It seemed he relied on mine and was desperate to use me.
But why?
"His heart is made of pure black stone. It's a stone that can produce black mana. As a matter of fact, he is known as the black lord because of this," he said. "You look like you know about it."
"I do."
"But after the war between him and the Moon Goddess, the black stone in his heart cracked slightly. The specialty of a black stone is that it produces the best amount of black mana when it's intact. But when it gets scratched or cracked in any way, regardless of how small it is, the amount of black mana the black stone produces will be less. The same thing happened with Azure.
His only source of black mana was that stone. Now, it produces less mana than before which causes great difficulty."
"Isn't he supposed to be the strongest if he is a god?" I asked. "I mean, what's the advantage of having a black stone if it's not gonna produce enough black mana if got cracked? We, mages, don't have a black stone or anything like that. Still, our body produces mana."
"Black stone is really strong; one of the hardest stones. No ordinary person can do anything to it. Maybe you have the ability and the Moon Goddess. No one else can do it. Even if you want to do it, maybe you will end up dead for using that much power. There is always a limit.
That's the advantage. Mages get tired after a while when there is a shortage of mana. But he doesn't. He can keep on fighting for as long as he wants."
Now, I understood why Azure wanted me to be by his side. "Wait, so this happened a long time ago, right?"
"Of course. If you find something in legends, that happened a long time ago, or did not happen at all, or is fabricated."
"So, that's why he did that experiment. He wanted someone who could be used as a pawn. And a powerful person at that," I said. "But if why doesn't he just have more children? You know, to ensure…"
"No," he dismissed the idea immediately. "He can't risk that. What if his children go against him unitedly having that amount of power each of them? He is not the type of person to take unnecessary risks. One is more than enough. And one is easier to control than many.
He had more children before us, at least tried to. But none of them survived. The ones he had with werewolves were killed because they did not meet his expectations. He had five more children with humans. Three of them died right after birth, one of them died in the womb and the other one died due to birth asphyxia. It happened during birth."
