Chapter 192 Green Mist
The Special Envoy wanted to retreat in order to advance; she seemed composed as she leaned back on the sofa, but her right leg that was propped up was unconsciously shaking her toes.
Although her mission did not explicitly require her to cooperate with the Capital Commandant, compared to the currently inactive Great General of District 13, the Capital Commandant obviously appeared more ambitious and more likely to succeed.
However, this man's guard was truly too strong.
He appeared to be strategizing behind the scenes for everything, but in reality, he maintained strong vigilance towards everything, and even his own people were no exception.
Those who are both suspicious and cautious are always difficult to persuade.
By getting aggressive like this, the Special Envoy was effectively laying down her final ultimatum; she had already been marked and could not afford to waste any more time.
If the Capital Commandant still refused...
Before she could finish her thought, a voice came from beside her, "I can cooperate with you, but I need confirmation. Does anyone else know about your plan?"
The Special Envoy smiled upon hearing this, "Rest assured, my visit this time is for the trade between the two districts. If you don't wish to cooperate, then that is all my mission amounts to. And even if there really were an issue, our Parliament would take full responsibility for it."
The Capital Commandant's expression was cold, "I don't need you to take responsibility; I need you to guarantee that there will be no mistakes."
"Alright."
The Special Envoy stood up and said solemnly facing him, "To put your mind at ease, I can tell you that the Green Mist army from District 10 is already hidden two hundred miles outside of the city. As soon as you decide, we can act immediately, catch them off guard, and ensure a flawless victory!"
However, upon hearing this, the Capital Commandant's eyes narrowed slightly, his tone unfriendly, "You've actually stationed troops outside of District 13 without authorization?!"
Special Envoy: "..."
What are you focusing on?
There's no way to continue this conversation!
...
After a long while, Room 304's door reopened, and the Capital Commandant walked out expressionless.
District 10 had once separated its military and political affairs as well, but later due to internal changes, they became entwined again, and they have been worrying about local economic problems recently.
And the crux of the problem lay with District 13's governance system.
Located at the empire's border, guarding the frontier, District 13 also guarded the commercial lifeline of half the empire, with its strategic passage through mountains, bordering three countries, and countless merchants and travelers passing by, leading to the emergence of the social season.
District 10's geographical location, however, was quite awkward; wedged between District 13 and Ninth District, it was encircled by the two in a ring shape, completely blockaded.
Furthermore, the policies of District 13's Parliament had prevented District 10 from trading with the outside world through their territory, directly restricting their development.
Open and secret struggles among the empire's thirteen districts were commonplace, and Seaside's Ninth District was just happy to watch the strife, not kicking District 10 while they were down was decent enough, let alone having any thoughts of offering help.
After all, in their view, District 10 shouldn't even exist.
And now, with the social season fast approaching once again, District 10, which had been besieged for a long time, finally decided to make some changes!
After reading the letter in hand, the Capital Commandant, with a detached expression, crumpled the paper into scraps, turning it into ash that fluttered down from his fingertips.
He gestured towards the soldiers behind him; an attendant who had been following him closely stepped forward immediately, and after a few words in a low whisper, that attendant left swiftly upon receiving the orders.
The Capital Commandant went down the right staircase, returning to the second floor, and then stood in front of Room 218, smoothly using his card to unlock the door.
"Huh?"
Xu Shuo, who was reading on the sofa, looked up, his face showing puzzlement, when the person who entered grabbed him by the neck without a word and lifted him up.
Xu Shuo's fingers twitched, and then he relaxed.
"What are you doing, Capital Commandant?" After being forced to stand up, his right hand not holding the book grabbed the wrist that was choking his neck.
"I told you not to let me catch your tail, or you know the consequences," the Capital Commandant said in a lowered voice, the corners of his mouth curling into a fierce arc, eyes sharp and intimidating!
"You never said that," Xu Shuo argued.
"..."
The Capital Commandant suddenly let go, flinging him away with a force that sent Xu Shuo crashing against the edge of the sofa, the medical book he had not gripped tightly scattering with a slap.
Seemingly already in possession of incontrovertible evidence that made further denial impossible for the other party, the Capital Commandant scoffed coldly, his mood seeming considerably lighter.
He drew out his words, "Doctor Kong, I'm curious, after you changed your shoes in Room 303, where did you throw the bag that had contained your slippers?"
As Xu Shuo was picking up the medical book, he merely frowned and replied, "Trash naturally goes into the trash bin."
"Ha, I knew you would surely not admit it." The Capital Commandant rubbed his wrist, his cold eyes fixed on him, "But I'm tired of listening to your arguments."
"I really don't understand what you're talking about. The Capital Commandant's storytelling ability is as impressive as ever, fond of jumping to conclusions based on simple conjectures. There must be quite a few miscarriages of justice in District 13." Xu Shuo retorted full of sarcasm, apparently provoked.
"I don't know about miscarriages of justice, but I'm certain you are not innocent," the Capital Commandant dismissed his sardonic tone, waving the two soldiers outside to come in.
"What, planning to imprison me directly?" Xu Shuo said, looking indignant.
"No, to interrogate you."
The Capital Commandant glanced at him indifferently and turned to leave the room.
Now that he had decided to collaborate with District 10, a revolution filled with fierce battles and bloodshed was inevitable, so why be wary of so many things?
Today, no one in the hotel would get away!
Not until he found that spy!
