Toman's Black Cat

Chapter 74: proved too soon

Y/n's POV

I knew where I wanted to go and hopped on the first bullet train I could find that would bring me close enough to where I wanted to be. I stood to the side, holding one of the grips to keep me steady when I noticed at a few of the stops, there were quite a few familiar faces that kept getting on.

I quickly tucked my face away once I realized they were Tenjiku gang members. It wasn't guaranteed I wouldn't be noticed, but I knew it was only a matter of time at this rate. There must have been some that had already left the hideout to gather their members around the area.

I took a quick glance to see if I recognized any faces and noticed one in particular I hadn't expected to see again so soon.

The train stopped at the first place and many of the gang members got off, but I held back to follow the blonde with blue streaks in his hair. I scanned to see where Ran was as well, but couldn't see him or even Rindo before the next stop.

I didn't mean to get off here, but the area looks familiar. I hate that it seems like I'm following them, but there's no way this is a good sign and I can't just run up to them and go

'Hey, what's up!?!'

I would die FOR SURE!

With only a moment more to think, I quickly hopped off the train before the doors closed to go after them. I was so far away, I really couldn't hear anything from them and lost sight of them through the throng of people.

I walked around what felt like hours trying to find them once I had made it out of the train station. The sun was draining me quickly and I realized it was because I hadn't eaten at all. I had waited for Kakucho each time, but I couldn't wait today out of fear something big was going to happen and that Izana wouldn't see me.

I felt panic course through my body as I heard fighting in the distance. I began running toward it as I became aware of what was going on.

No…Please no…don't let anyone else die….PLEASE..

I rounded the corner out of an alleyway just in time to see Ran Haitani smash Mitsuya on the back of his head with a brick.

Ran's POV

Hearing a chick scream isn't new, but looking up into the eyes of the chick he wished it wasn't forced him to be stone-faced.

I hate seeing her cry…now she can see what kind of person I am…I'm prepared…

He watched her stumble toward the guy lying on the ground before falling beside him on her knees with tears streaming down her cheeks.

She knows now…I wouldn't be surprised for her to hate me. That's fine….it's fine….

He expected to be cursed at, yelled at, even for her to hit him, or at least try to for what she just witnessed him and his brother do. But when she carefully cradled her friend's head while sobbing, his composure cracked when she looked up at him.

"Ran…why? Why did you…?" She couldn't even finish what she was saying as hiccups made it impossible for her to talk. It actually worried him because it reminded him of the first time he saw her.

Rindo's POV

Rindo stood by deathly silent with conflicting emotions of watching a girl cry. He could tell it bothered Ran, and that's one thing.

I don't need this bothering me. We have a job to do.

It didn't help him look away or end all the things he could feel. When he heard some of the others talking about grabbing her, he swiftly made an example of the one to even think of such a thing.

"Nobody better touch her. We've done what we were supposed to. Let's go."

The brothers were the last of their gang to walk away, but even when they left, they couldn't stop seeing her cry. Ran let out a dramatic sigh.

"This sucks."

Yeah, it does.
