Transmigrated And Became An Omega [ABO]

Chapter 2: 2

The engagement banquet ended in an awkward and unhappy manner, leaving everyone with complex feelings. The only person who seemed to be in a good mood was Miss Shi, one of the main characters of the event. She managed to handle her family's guests and comfort her concerned relatives at the same time.

Late at night, she escorted her mother back home.

Shi Yue's father had passed away in an accident a few years ago, leaving only her and her mother to rely on each other.

In earlier years, the Shi family business could compete with the Leng family under Shi Yue´s father's leadership. However, after his death, control of the Shi family fell into her uncle's hands, and the family's influence had declined over the past few years.

This marriage alliance was urgently needed. The Shi family required the Leng family's resources to revive, while the Leng family wanted to use the Shi family's foundation in the fashion industry to expand its influence.

In short, this marriage was entirely a business transaction, with no relation to feelings.

However, the original female lead was a traditional thinker. She lost her father at a young age and was raised by her mother. Her personality was gentle and weak, lacking initiative. Even when faced with cold treatment from her husband's family, she felt that, as a wife, she should be dutiful and take good care of her scumbag husband.

It could be said that Shi Yue's weakness was what caused her to play a perfectly good hand terribly.

After returning home, Shi Yue's mother was still worried about the engagement banquet. However, unlike their heartless relatives, she had a belated realization: "Xiao Yue... does that Young Master Leng not like you very much?"

In the original novel, the female lead silently endured humiliation partly to avoid worrying her mother. However, when photos of Leng Mingchuan and his "white moonlight" were exposed, the blow to her mother was even worse.

When she read this part, Shi Yue felt that sometimes knowing the truth early on was far better than being kept in the dark and unprepared for the pain.

She nodded honestly and said to her mother, "Yes."

"Oh dear." Her mother looked worried. "What should we do then?"

"It's okay, Mom." Shi Yue winked at her. "I have a solution."

Her mother held her arm. "Your uncle and the others always say that the family business needs the Leng family's support. Without this marriage, our family wouldn't survive. I don't understand business, but I always feel that our Shi family hasn't reached that point yet.

"Our income has indeed decreased a lot compared to when your father was around, but it's just the two of us. If we live frugally, can't we manage?

"If Leng Mingchuan doesn't care about you, we should call off the marriage!"

Hearing this, Shi Yue felt touched.

She couldn't help but think that if the original female lead had confided in her mother earlier and received such comforting words, maybe the later events wouldn't have happened. Fortunately, she was now the one in this body, and she would make sure not to let any regrets occur again.

"I know. Don't worry, I won't let myself suffer."

"Mm." Her mother nodded, holding her hand.

"Speaking of..."

Shi Yue remembered something else. "Mom, when Father passed away, you weren't familiar with the company matters, and I was still a minor. That's why Uncle took over the company. Now that I'm of age, shouldn't the company be returned to us?"

Her mother was taken aback. "You want to take over the company?"

Thinking for a moment, she continued, "When your father had his accident, the other shareholders had some ulterior motives. Your uncle came to me, asking me to give him the shares your father held so he could manage them. By combining our family's shares, we prevented the company from changing hands.

"If you want to take over the company now, the shares we have aren't enough. You'll need the support of your uncle or other shareholders."

Shi Yue seemed to be in deep thought. "So that's how it is..."

"Why are you thinking about these things?" Her mother sighed. "You're still a student. Focus on your studies for now. We'll deal with the company matters later."

Shi Yue smiled at her. "My coursework is light right now, so I want to find something to do." Supporting her mother into the bedroom, she added, "I won't act rashly. I'll test the waters with Uncle first."

Her mother nodded, feeling both relieved and a bit surprised as she looked at her. "Yue'er... why do I feel like you've changed recently? You seem more mature, like a different person."

Shi Yue playfully furrowed her brows. "I'm about to get married, after all. I have to grow up, don't I?"

Her mother looked at her daughter's familiar face and quickly accepted this explanation. "Mm."

She reached out and touched Shi Yue's still made-up face. "It's late. You should go back and rest early too."

After putting her mother to bed, Shi Yue returned to her small apartment.

After taking a shower and coming out of the bathroom, her phone, tossed on the bed, vibrated. She picked it up and saw that her friend request had been accepted.

Leng Yanmi, who looked so unapproachable on the outside, surprisingly had a profile picture of an adorable and noble Ragdoll cat. Shi Yue enlarged the picture and saw the cat lazily lying in a hanging cat bed, looking proud and ignoring the cat teaser in front of the camera.

Indeed, pets reflect their owners.

However, aside from occasionally posting some pet photos, Leng Yanmi's social media feed was clean, offering no useful information.

Shi Yue thought for a moment and sent a cute emoji to greet her.

[Aunt~]

Leng Yanmi kept up her aloof persona, replying with a single question mark.

Shi Yue: [Goodnight ^-^]

Since the information she had gathered was limited, she didn't bother blindly investing her efforts into Leng Yanmi. Besides, she was genuinely exhausted from all the new information she had absorbed today. After sending that message, she turned off her phone and fell asleep immediately.

Elsewhere, in the Leng family.

The blue-eyed Ragdoll cat let out a clingy meow, attempting to act cute in front of its motionless owner. Seeing no reaction from her, it stretched out its paw, hooking it into Leng Yanmi's pajama pants.

Perhaps its claws were too long, for a thread was pulled out from Leng Yanmi's pant leg.

Leng Yanmi snapped back to reality, putting down her phone to play with the cat for a while.

The wall clock chimed crisply, indicating it was time for her usual sleep. Leng Yanmi, without any hesitation, retracted her hand, picked up the Ragdoll, and put it back in its cage before heading to her bedroom alone.

Before getting into bed, she inexplicably turned on her phone again, but the message on the screen remained on the words "Goodnight," with no further communication.

She couldn't help but recall when Shi Yue had asked for her contact information.

The girl's body was soft, and even in public, she leaned in without reservation.

Leng Yanmi could smell the faint citrus scent emanating from the glands at the back of her neck. The immature, grassy undertone mixed with a hint of sweet and sour made one irresistibly curious about whether the fruit was ripe.

At that moment, Leng Yanmi was actually a bit angry.

As the heir to the Leng family, even if she didn't want to be, her physical condition was well known—she was an Alpha with scentless pheromones.

Despite her achievements over the years proving she was among the best, the defect in her pheromones still meant she wasn't a complete Alpha.

Her pheromone rating had always been an E, incapable of attracting any males or females, unable to find a highly compatible partner, and likely to be alone for the rest of her life.

Seeing Miss Shi's defenseless behavior toward her, she felt the girl was taking advantage of her physical defects.

Yet, for some reason, when Shi Yue called her "Auntie" in her ear and asked if they could exchange contact details, her body acted before her mind. Watching Shi Yue send the friend request with a smile on her face, Leng Yanmi finally regained her senses, convinced that this Miss Shi was anything but simple and had an agenda for getting close to her.

Frankly speaking, Leng Yanmi had been waiting all night to see what move the Shi family would make next.

But unexpectedly, Shi Yue just sent a "Goodnight" and then went silent?!

Leng Yanmi closed her eyes, rubbing her temples, feeling an odd sense of emptiness after being on high alert for nothing.

She turned off her phone and slipped under the covers, the mischievous smile on Shi Yue's face lingering in her mind as she fell asleep.

Two days later, Shi Yue accepted an invitation to visit the Leng family to discuss the follow-up to the marriage.

She arrived a bit early, and the butler informed her that the master of the house was undergoing his routine health check-up and would be delayed. Shi Yue replied politely, "It's my own fault for being early. I don't mind waiting."

Relieved, the butler prepared some exquisite refreshments for her to enjoy while she waited in the living room.

As she waited, Shi Yue browsed her phone, taking the opportunity to review the original female lead's coursework. Suddenly, a Ragdoll cat darted in from outside, leaping onto the carpet in front of her, arching its back and hissing at her.

A maid soon followed.

She held a nail clipper, with two visible scratches on the bare skin of her arm. Seeing Shi Yue, a guest, present, the maid repeatedly apologized.

"Is this cat always this fierce?" Shi Yue thought the Ragdoll looked a bit familiar.

"It's because the armchair you're sitting in is its favorite spot," the maid explained helplessly, holding down the Ragdoll. "It might be a bit unhappy."

Not wanting to quarrel with a cat, Shi Yue stood up and offered the single-seater chair. "Then let it have the seat."

"Thank you so much!" The maid bowed in gratitude.

She placed the Ragdoll on the chair and continued trimming its nails. The cat indeed became much more obedient in its usual spot, quietly stretching out its paws to enjoy the maid's service. However, its gaze remained fixed on Shi Yue, as if watching a trespasser on its territory.

Being stared at for a while, Shi Yue couldn't resist sticking out her tongue at it in retaliation.

She intended only to tease the Ragdoll, but surprisingly, it was incredibly perceptive, suddenly standing up and hissing at her.

The maid gently tried to hold it down again, but the Ragdoll turned its anger on her, swiping a claw and adding another scratch to the maid's already injured arm.

She didn't dare cry out in pain, only letting out a muffled gasp, nearly pleading, "Qiuqiu, please be good, okay? We need to finish trimming your nails today."

Shi Yue couldn't stand it anymore.

She grabbed the cat from behind, and although the Ragdoll struggled with all its might, it was too chubby to escape her grasp. As she subdued it, she smiled at the maid, "Let me help you with this."

The maid felt embarrassed. "I can't trouble you with this..."

"It's no trouble." Shi Yue took the pet nail clipper from her. "Your injuries are serious. Why don't you go take care of them first?"

Blushing, the maid quickly complied.

Perhaps unable to refuse Shi Yue's kindness and seeing how professionally she handled the task, the maid left to treat her wounds.

In the living room, Shi Yue firmly held the Ragdoll, squeezing its paws to trim its nails.

Cutting the nails wasn't difficult. The annoying part was the constant yowling from the cat. Every time Shi Yue squeezed its paw, it let out a "meow meow" in protest.

If Shi Yue could understand its language, she would know just how foul its curses were.

Fortunately, she couldn't.

She even took the cat's cries as some rhythmic accompaniment, snipping away at its claws one by one with fluid motions. As she worked, she mumbled, "Cut! Cut them all off! Let's see how you go around scratching people now!"

Finally done, she released her grip, and the Ragdoll jumped away, landing on the floor.

Not ready to give up, it turned back to hiss at her, baring its fangs.

Shi Yue wasn't one to be bullied, so she imitated its hissing, threatening back.

There's no point in reasoning with a cat; to make it understand fear, you have to show it that you're not to be messed with either.

Clearly, this pampered Ragdoll had never encountered a human who hissed and made ugly faces at it. It stood there, stunned, its body shrinking as it contemplated whether to flee.

Amused by the sight, Shi Yue suddenly heard a string of footsteps from the door.

The Ragdoll reacted faster than her, darting to the door.

Soon, Leng Yanmi appeared in the living room doorway in a black suit skirt. The Ragdoll hid behind her legs, regaining its arrogant demeanor, baring its teeth and hissing at Shi Yue, perfectly illustrating the phrase "fox borrowing the tiger's might."

Only then did Shi Yue realize why this little creature seemed so familiar. It was the same cat Leng Yanmi used as her profile picture, the mascot she owned. Without meaning to, Shi Yue had provoked one of the underlings protected by the big villain boss.
