Transmigrated And Became An Omega [ABO]

Chapter 3: 3

Leng Yanmi bent down to pick up the Ragdoll cat, stroking its head to calm it down.

The spoiled and arrogant white cat was not willing to back down, stretching out its little paw and pointing at Shi Yue, looking like it was demanding justice from its owner.

Before Leng Yanmi could question her, Shi Yue spoke up first. "Auntie," she called out.

Leng Yanmi's expression was unreadable. "Yes?"

Shi Yue glanced at the Ragdoll, which was still meowing in vain, and mischievously curled her lips into a smile.

The next moment, she cleared her throat and, in a deliberately aggrieved tone, complained, "Your cat is so fierce."

It was unclear what breed of highly intelligent cat this Ragdoll was, but it seemed to understand Shi Yue's seemingly innocent words. It arched its back and let out a sharp wail.

If it weren't being held by Leng Yanmi, Shi Yue had no doubt it would swipe at her face with its claws.

"It has a pretty scary cry too." Shi Yue clutched her chest dramatically.

Seeing its owner remain indifferent, the Ragdoll finally became anxious.

It tilted its head up, letting out soft, syrupy meows to Leng Yanmi in a renewed effort to act cute.

Leng Yanmi remained calm, not getting involved in the war between the cat and Shi Yue, merely confirming with Shi Yue, "You're here to discuss the engagement banquet?"

"Yes." Shi Yue nodded obediently.

"Come with me." Leng Yanmi turned to lead the way.

The two women and the cat had just left the living room when the maid returned, having just finished treating her wounds. Seeing the Ragdoll in Leng Yanmi's arms, the maid panicked for a moment. "Miss."

Ignoring the Ragdoll's struggles, Leng Yanmi handed the cat back to her.

Before leaving, she reminded her, "Take good care of it, and don't let it trouble the guests again."

The maid's face paled. "Yes, I—I understand."

Shi Yue didn't stay silent, offering a defense for the maid. "I volunteered to help." She flashed a smile. "Taking care of Auntie's cat wasn't troublesome at all."

"But it seems my cat got into some trouble." Leng Yanmi glanced at her indifferently, her voice carrying a hint of warning. "Miss Shi, it's best if you refrain from helping."

Internally, Shi Yue was already cursing Leng Yanmi as an overprotective guardian.

Yet, on the surface, she remained unfazed, even using a lighthearted tone to tease, "I can't help it." She stepped forward, walking beside Leng Yanmi. "Everything related to you is so interesting, Auntie. I can't help but want to get closer."

Leng Yanmi's pupils contracted momentarily before quickly returning to normal.

She quickened her pace, the "tap-tap" sound of her boots on the marble floor echoing through the Leng family corridor.

Shi Yue found herself envious of the villain boss's superior height and those long, well-proportioned legs. At Leng Yanmi's current speed, Shi Yue needed to jog to keep up.

But did she not see through Leng Yanmi's intention to keep her at a distance?

Shi Yue certainly wouldn't let her succeed.

Leng Yanmi hadn't taken more than a couple of steps before feeling a tug on the hem of her suit jacket.

She turned and was met with Shi Yue's tearful eyes. "Auntie, I can't keep up."

Shi Yue wasn't much of an actress, but given that the original female lead had a delicate "innocent flower" appearance, all Shi Yue had to do was frown slightly to appear pitiful.

If a passerby who didn't know the situation saw this, they would be 90% likely to believe she was being manipulated by the Alpha in front of her.

Leng Yanmi had faced many direct confrontations in her life, but she had never encountered such low-level manipulative tactics.

She hesitated for a moment. Although she quickly looked away, her steps slowed down considerably.

Shi Yue deliberately didn't release her grip on Leng Yanmi's jacket, preventing her from taking larger strides. Yet, this commanding Leng family head didn't scold her, instead matching Shi Yue's pace as they strolled forward.

They walked side by side to a small building behind the Leng family villa.

The other main character of the engagement banquet—Leng Mingchuan—was already waiting at the door. Hearing their footsteps, he looked over and instinctively called out, "Auntie," before his attention shifted to Shi Yue beside Leng Yanmi.

A breeze happened to blow by, lifting the strands of hair that fell by Shi Yues ear. She looked at Leng Mingchuan and smirked disdainfully.

It was no use—Shi Yue could put on a facade of innocence when facing Leng Yanmi's beautiful face, but when confronted with Leng Mingchuan's scumbag face, she couldn't even be bothered to pretend.

Naturally, her provocation quickly elicited a reaction from him.

"Why are you always haunting me?" Leng Mingchuan spat through gritted teeth.

He quickly walked up to them, warning Shi Yue, "Stay away from my aunt."

Shi Yue instinctively hid behind Leng Yanmi.

In the blind spot where Leng Yanmi couldn't see, she raised an eyebrow and retorted, "I'm here to discuss the marriage between our families. Shouldn't I be present in person?"

"Heh." Leng Mingchuan scoffed arrogantly, "You think you have the right to talk to our Leng family?"

He rudely waved his hand. "Now, get lost!"

Shi Yue was about to retort, but she caught the look Leng Yanmi shot her. Quickly altering her expression, she gave Leng Yanmi a weak smile before lowering her head to stare silently at her shoes.

"Don't be afraid." Leng Yanmi unexpectedly offered her a word of comfort.

Leng Mingchuan clearly saw Shi Yue's change in demeanor and became furious. "Auntie, she's just pretending..."

Before he could finish, Leng Yanmi cut him off sharply. "Mingchuan, enough."

The previously arrogant young man immediately fell silent.

"No matter how dissatisfied you are with this marriage, you shouldn't take it out on a weak Omega," Leng Yanmi coldly reprimanded him.

"I didn't..." Leng Mingchuan's voice dropped several notches, as he muttered in protest.

But as soon as he looked up, he caught Shi Yue's amused expression, which almost made him lose his temper again. Gritting his teeth to swallow his anger, he quickly stated his stance, "Anyway, I'm not marrying her."

Leng Yanmi then asked, "If you don't like the Shi family, do you want to meet with the young ladies of the Chen and Cai families?"

The Chen and Cai families she mentioned were other giants in the fashion industry. Of course, compared to the Shi family, these families were even more distant from the Leng family.

"No." Leng Mingchuan irritably ruffled his hair. "I don't want any of them. Can't I marry someone I love?"

"You can." Leng Yanmi actually nodded.

Before Leng Mingchuan could be happy, she added, "But Shen Lingling is not an option."

Leng Mingchuan's eyes reddened. "Why?!"

Before Leng Yanmi could respond, the door in front of them opened, and a doctor walked out with two assistant nurses.

He greeted Leng Yanmi and passed on a message. "Miss, the old master wants you to come in and talk."

In this world, the maximum human lifespan could reach 150 years. The Leng family patriarch had just celebrated his 120th birthday last year. Despite not having any major health issues, he had to admit his physical strength and stamina were declining. In recent years, he had gradually transferred power to the most gifted member of the family, Leng Yanmi.

But he still cared deeply about significant matters concerning the future of the family, such as Leng Mingchuan's marriage.

After talking with him for a while, Shi Yue felt that this old fox of a patriarch clearly knew his granddaughter's habit of being overprotective. He feared that Leng Yanmi might indulge the spoiled Leng Mingchuan, causing trouble along with her wayward great-nephew. Hence, he tightly controlled Leng Mingchuan's marriage, refusing to let go.

"The engagement banquet wasn't handled well on our end," he said with a smile to Shi Yue. "Little great-granddaughter-in-law, you pick a date, and we'll have Xiaochuan apologize to your family."

The atmosphere in the room was just right when Leng Mingchuan suddenly stood up.

"I'm not going!"

The Leng family patriarch's face darkened. "If you don't want to listen, go back to your room and stay out of sight."

Leng Mingchuan snapped, "Why do I have to marry her?"

"You're still so immature!" The patriarch angrily pounded the table. "Miss Shi comes from a good background and has excellent manners. More importantly, her pheromone compatibility with you is over 80%. Do you think every Alpha can find an Omega with such a high compatibility rate?

"The family has done its utmost to find you the most suitable wife, yet you remain oblivious to your good fortune."

"Don't give me that 'it's for my own good' nonsense!" Leng Mingchuan retorted ungratefully. "You just look down on Xiao Ling's family because they're not wealthy.

"Calling it a business alliance is more like it. Saying it's for my sake is laughable."

"You're out of control!" The patriarch yelled in fury. "Without this family, without business, do you think you'd still have the luxury to stand here and talk about love?"

Leng Mingchuan's face turned red with anger, and he suddenly turned and stormed out of the room, leaving everyone behind.

At that moment, Shi Yue felt a bit of admiration for him.

A fearless young man daring to stand up against the forces trying to control him. Meanwhile, the original female lead, who suffered similar manipulation, merely went with the flow, willingly becoming a pawn in the marriage alliance.

In comparison, at least Leng Mingchuan had raised his voice, even if it was in a shout.

"He's getting more insolent!" The patriarch looked at Leng Yanmi. "Don't indulge him. Cut off all his funds. I want to see how he survives on his own out there!"

Leng Yanmi knew her words wouldn't work on the patriarch. She turned her gaze to Shi Yue.

After a moment of thought, Shi Yue understood what Leng Yanmi wanted and couldn't help but chuckle—Leng Yanmi wanted her to speak up for Leng Mingchuan.

Actually, this scene did occur in the original text. Even before the marriage, Shi Yue, having already positioned herself as the "sweet wife," would plead with the Leng family patriarch not to punish Leng Mingchuan. Later, she would even secretly support the male lead, who had been cut off financially while still at school.

But the current Shi Yue would never do something so foolish.

She tapped her cheek lightly with her finger and, under the watchful gazes of both the patriarch and Leng Yanmi, spoke up. "Actually, there is another way to resolve this."

The patriarch hadn't expected her to say this.

"What do you mean?"

"If Young Master Leng truly doesn't like me, let's call off the engagement. Forced relationships are never sweet. I don't think we would be happy even if we got married." Shi Yue calmly expressed her view.

The patriarch frowned. "Xiao Yue, does your family know what you're saying? Your marriage with Mingchuan is not child's play."

Shi Yue smiled faintly, unexpectedly glancing toward Leng Yanmi, hinting at something. "I just think that if the two families are to form a marriage alliance, Young Master Leng isn't the right person."

Seeing Leng Yanmi still in a daze, she deliberately moved closer, enticingly confirming once more, "Don't you think so?"

The patriarch was dumbfounded, and Leng Yanmi finally came to her senses.

She narrowed her eyes. "You want to choose me?"

Shi Yue didn't answer, simply extending her finger to lightly tap the back of Leng Yanmi's hand. The teasing intent was unmistakable to anyone.

Leng Yanmi didn't evade, so the little seductress went a step further, using her fingertip to hook onto Leng Yanmi's long, slender ring finger, gently holding it.

How strange.

Shi Yue thought to herself.

Leng Yanmi appeared so cold and detached, yet her hand was surprisingly warm and soft. What had started as a mischievous prank now made Shi Yue genuinely curious about what might happen next.
