Unraveling the Alpha's Secret

Chapter 7: Chapter 7

Ivonne's POV

The bold letters at the heading of the paper, the content and body, together with the conclusion all screamed one thing, DIVORCE. My eyes remained glued to it as my brain grasped every information types on it.

"I saw the Alpha walk along this hallway from downstairs an hour ago," she replied, dragging my attention away from the slip of paper which I had picked up to reread for possibly the tenth time. "Maybe he came in during that time."

"Okay Lora, thank you," I said, all strength in me drained as I took in the reality of what was happening. "You can go."

"Is there anything wrong?" She implored. "Should I ask him about it?"

"No no," I declared. "You don't need to go through all that trouble, just go get me my breakfast Lora, thank you."

"Okay Luna," she murmured and some seconds later I heard her footsteps as she retreated.

They said joy came in the morning, however mine disappeared with the morning as I continued to peer down at the paper. I expected it, though it was totally different to feel used and paid for my services like a whore.

Inhaling a deep breath, I closed my eyes surprised to feel wetness on my lashes as I never took notice of the fact I was crying till I felt it.

Opening them, I fixed my stare back at on the paper and bent toward the cabinet, as I searched for a pen. In my search I spotted the cheque which he had thrown at me to pay for my services, a pen I never observed till that moment beside it.

Retrieving the cheque I gawked at the figure scribbled on it, my resolve returning as I pulled myself together. I grabbed the pen and placed the divorce document on the flat surface.

"It's a divorce he wants right?" I said in question to the quiet room as I uncapped the pen and drew my signature in the space provided. "I'd give him a divorce."

Dropping the pen, I folded the sheet and placed the pen atop it. Whirling around I strolled to the bathroom, ready to have a bath. I had the cheque with me, the only thing needed is to ask him to escort me to cash it.

Therefore the earlier I washed up and got dressed and seemed him out, the earlier I'd have the money cashed and pay for my mother's hospital bills.

I was given two days by the doctor, meaning I had only that day and the next to get things settled if not my mother would be kicked out of the hospital.

The thought that they had already plugged off the supply of oxygen broke my heart and I had no idea how I'd be able to cope if she got sent away.

I wouldn't be able to live with the feeling of guilt and incompetency of not being able to do what I could to save her life after all she had done for me.

The divorce papers, cheque and my behavior the previous night made me feel like nothing but a prostitute, coupled with the humiliation I received from Allison and being pushed aside and neglected by my husband, I ought to feel as if I'd given it my all.

Rather I was ready to go to any length of only I could save my mother. I was ready to let go of my pride and do more humiliating things if only I got what I wanted.

Lincoln had made it clear sometime ago after we had lost our child that he was only with me because I was a silver wolf and would bear him powerful children as heirs, but at Allison's return I wasn't needed anymore.

I ought to have left him then, nonetheless the love I had for him didn't permit me gather such strength and resilience to do such. Right then my only priority was to keep my mother alive and if I was able to do so, I wouldn't care if he burned in hell.

Those thoughts in my mind, I stepped into the bathroom and turned on the shower, taking time to wash away whatever feeling of his body on mine if I could.

What I took as a blessing was now perceived as a curse and I was ready to put it all behind me, I just prayed he would be kind enough to cash the cheque.

Dressed in a simple attire of jeans and an off the shoulder red featherlike blouse, I picked up my black handbag which went with the black heels I had on, and faced my reflection in the mirror.

I appeared better than I had expected or how I was feeling inside and I was indeed grateful for that. Lora had come with breakfast and left after I was done as I told her to ask them to prepare the car.

Yes I was neglected by my husband and mate, however I was still the Luna who had a bit of privileges. Satisfied with my attire I strolled out of the room and into the hallway.

My room or should I say the room I was moved to barely a day ago was the last room on the right end of the hallway. At least Lincoln was sensible enough to keep me on the same floor he was as it was strictly for the Alpha and Luna with their families and esteemed guests whenever they visited.

Taking my room a floor lower would have raised suspicions from the pack members and bring his total madness out in the open. It was no secret he had brought in another woman nonetheless it would put a stain on his reputation if people found out he was treating their Luna like a piece of rag.

I waved at the guards at each door who lowered their heads in respect as I walked past them. About to cross the stairway toward the other side of the floor where the Alpha's room and study was I felt relieved as I caught sight of him climbing upward.

He seemed not to have noticed me yet and I came to a halt once I reached the stairs and waited for him to stop, which he did once he was at the top, his expression a disgusted scowl as he spotted me.

"Alpha," I murmured in respect but he ignored me and turned in the path that led to his room. "Wait, I have something to tell you."

"What is it?" He questioned impatiently shoving his hands into the pocket of the black slacks he wore beneath a red shirt.

"Can we go and cash the cheque now?" I asked as politely as I could, disregarding his attitude. "Why?" He raised a question and I was taken aback, feeling the urge to scoff but held it in.

"Today is Friday Lincoln," I began, putting on a fake smile. "If we don't cash it today I won't be able to settle the medical bills and they'd kick my mother out of the hospital by tomorrow."

To my surprise he let out a chuckle, provoking my brows to squeeze in a frown of confusion. "Why would I pay you for services you never rendered?"

"What?" I asked, shock and worry washing over me. "What do you mean Lincoln?"
