Chapter 8: Chapter 8
Ivonne's POV
"I mean what you thought I meant ivonne," he growled, sending me a harsh glare that made me flinch. "Now would you get away from me?"
My feet stayed rooted in my spot as I strived to comprehend his words. I couldn't even utter a syllable in protest as he fully turned away from me and walked off.
I had no idea how long I stood there or the events which took place in those moments I was lost. I didn't even notice Lora climb the steps and approach me till she jabbed my arm. "Luna?"
"Yes Lora?" I answered in a startled jump of surprise. "Is the car ready?"
"Yes Luna. Are you fine?" She implored after answering my question. "I called out to you but you didn't notice."
"I'm fine Lora," I said for possibly the 10th time that morning and smiled kindly at her. Lora was more than my personal maid, she was one among all the rest I considered a friend. "Let's go."
"Okay Luna," she bobbed her head in reply though she sounded unconvinced and whirled away from me to begin her descent down the stairs.
I followed her form dressed in a simple red floral dress with short sleeves and length long enough to halt inches above her ankles. Together we made our way to the down floor.
Smiling I responded to everyone's greeting with a wave as I walked outside to where the rest of my party was waiting. I had instructed Lora to tell the others not to accompany us hence it just to see my mom.
I'm certain she did because aside from the eight servants which were assigned to me only two stood outside the car with the driver inside.
We were taking a black van with tinted windows which was okay and exactly what I needed hence I just wanted to wallow in my head as we drove to the hospital.
I got into the car and the male guard joined the driver at the front. The other two female servants sat in the middle while Lora joined me at the back.
The engine got started and the vehicle was steered away from the Alpha's residence and onto the pack roads, weaving through them on the way to the hospital.
Alone with my thoughts, I faced the window, Lincoln's behavior whirling around in my mind and I tried not to let myself dwell on what it meant.
It was a bit confusing that he said he received no services after the both of us spent a passionate together. My sore bones, heavy muscles and a hoarse voice was testament to that so I had no clue why he said so.
Shaking my head in a bid to rid it of the sad thoughts, it failed as my brain kept spinning in circles. It would be a disaster if Lincoln sticks with his opinion and doesn't offer to help me cash the cheque.
I know you might be thinking, why don't I go to the bank myself to cash it? Well things worked a bit differently in the werewolf world, especially our pack.
He was my mate and husband, nonetheless he had to accompany me to certify it was indeed his writing and permit me to cash his cheque.
It was a bit weird and complicated to understand but it was what it was and there was no way I could do it without him.
Heaven knew I needed to get the bills sorted by the end of the day or worse the next, and if Lincoln still doesn't accompany me by the time I returned from the hospital and had a talk with him again like I planned to, it'd mean all the hope I'd gathered and effort I'd put in would be a waste.
First off I needed to see my mother and know how she was doing, I believed seeing her would give me the strength or motivation I'd require to face Lincoln and his heartless behavior.
"Luna?" Lora called out to me, tapping the space on the seat between us. "Yes Lora?" I answered. "Is anything the matter?
"Vivian said we are nearing the mall," she began, turning her body to face me. "Do you want to get something for your mother before we get to hospital?"
"Ummm," I dragged out the sound, thinking about it.
"You can send one of us to get it for you if you don't want to get down yourself," she suggested.
"Don't worry I'll get down myself," I informed.
"Okay Luna," she nodded. Diverting her gaze to the front she said. "Stop by the mall, Luna wants to shop for some items."
"We'll accompany you," she declared, a straight expression on her face as the car whirled to a stop, I knew there was no room for argument.
^^^^^
The van came to a halt in the parking lot of the hospital and Derreck the driver switched off the engine. The guard jumped out of the passenger seat and slid the door of the van open.
Vivian and Leah my two other maids got off first before Lora did and I was the last, but passed over the flowers, cards and a small pack of crackers which Mom has always loved and hoped she'd be able to eat it.
The thought popped into my head at the mall and my mood brightened up after as I recalled how we'd share conversations when she was healthy, she chewing on the crackers and me stealing some despite how I'd always said I hated the taste.
Lora held onto the stuffs I handed her while I made my way out of the van and jumped down, I faced my party and mumbled, "I'll need only Lora to follow me, the rest of you can stay here and wait for me."
"But Luna, I am to guard you in case of certain emer—" Richard the guard started to say but I cut him off with a shake of my head.
"You don't need to worry Richard," I aimed to assure. "It's the hospital so of course I'm safe."
"Luna I can jus—"
"The hospital doesn't appreciate crowd anyway," I further explained. "Lora being with me is enough. I'll be back soon."
Finally he agreed and I signaled Lora to move ahead. We both did, tracing our way to the entrance and walking along the hospital hallways.
The stench of bleach was evident in the air, making my skin crawl. I really hated the idea of hospitals. I'd never loved the idea of drugs, injections and other things that came with it which was why I could never dream of being a medical personnel.
It didn't help my cause when Mother became ill, seeing her frail and always being injected or connected to drip bags and tubes made me almost develop an energy for the place.
Again I prayed sincerely in my heart as we approached her door that I would be able to gather the finances and get her fully treated and out of there in no time for our sakes.
Stopping at her door, I inhaled a deep breath and shut my eyes for a moment. Exhaling the deep breath I took in, I stretched my lips into a smile and shoved the door inward.
"Wait for me here Lora," I blurted and took the flowers and the other things I had got from the mall and proceeded into the room.
Further steps in, my smile faded as my vision met with an empty bed. My feet slowly came to a halt and my heart dropped to my stomach as I thought of the worst case scenario.
