Chapter 1: Chapter 1: We've meet again
Tristan Background:
Let me take you back to where it all began—back to Tristan's life before everything changed.
From the age of four, Tristan's life was a constant push-and-pull of expectations. His mom put immense pressure on him to excel in academics and sports. She had high hopes for him, expecting recognition and victories in every competition. Initially, Tristan played baseball, but his body couldn't keep up with the sport's physical demands. Determined not to give up his dream of being an athlete, he turned to chess.
Academically, Tristan wasn't the smartest in his class, but he worked hard—always striving to earn his mom's approval. His childhood was defined by this relentless effort, but something, or rather someone, brought light to his world.
That someone was Hanna.
Hanna moved into Tristan's neighborhood when he was just four years old. She was everything he admired—smart, kind, and beautiful. They quickly became inseparable, not only because they were classmates from kindergarten to Grade 3 but also because she was the only other child his age in their neighborhood.
For five years, Hanna and Tristan shared countless memories. They walked home together, helped each other with homework, and even partnered for a school competition, performing the song "You Raise Me Up." As they danced together, Tristan felt something new—an innocent but undeniable spark. It was the first time he realized he had feelings for her.
But life had other plans.
Fast forward to now: Tristan is a third-year high school student. Life has changed, and so has he.
He's not the smartest student, nor is he particularly social. He has a small circle of friends—just two or three people. That's all he needs, or so he tells himself. But deep down, he knows something is missing.
That something was Hanna.
Flashback: Six years ago, Hanna's family moved to abroad to manage a business. She left without saying goodbye. Tristan didn't even know she was gone until after she had already left. The suddenness of her absence left a hole in his heart, one he never fully acknowledged.
It was a sunny afternoon, and Tristan was heading home.
"Where's my bottled water? Ugh, did I forget it?" He muttered, rummaging through his bag while walking.
Distracted, he didn't notice the figure in front of him until it was too late.
"OUCH!"
"My God! Why aren't you looking where you're going?"A girl snapped, her tone sharp.
"Oops, sorry about that," Tristan stammered. "I was looking for my water bottle in my bag and didn't see you."
The girl crossed her arms. "If you're going to search for something, stop walking first! You could have seriously hurt someone."
"I'm really sorry," Tristan said, crouching down to help her gather the scattered items from her bag.
"I'll be more careful next time."
She sighed, still annoyed. "Fine, just don't do it again!"
As she walked away, Tristan watched her go, her irritation evident in her quick steps.
"Why was she so mad? It was just an accident," He muttered to himself. But as he continued home, her face lingered in his mind.
"Wait... I've never seen her in the neighborhood before. Is she new?"
The next day...
"Mum, I'm off to school!" Tristan called out as he grabbed his bag.
"Don't forget anything!" his mom replied.
"I'm good! Bye!"
Tristan's school was far from home, requiring a tricycle and bus ride to get there. The commute was tiring, but it was routine by now.
After 30 minutes, he arrived and settled into his classroom.
"Good morning, class," the teacher began.
"We have a new student joining us today. Please give her a warm welcome."
As the new student stepped forward, Tristan's breath caught.
Her face... it looked so familiar. Where had he seen her before?
"Hello," the girl began, her voice soft but confident.
"My name is..."
