Unseen Depths of Love

Chapter 2: Chapter 2: The Familiar faced

Who's the new student? I think you already guess it, right?

Chapter 2 started when the new student arrived and introduced herself to all of her classmates.

"Good morning, class. You have a new classmate today." The teacher's voice snapped me out of my thoughts.

"Hanna, would you like to introduce yourself?"

The new girl stood up, her presence immediately noticeable. "Hello, my name's Hanna. I love reading, especially fiction and romantic books, and I'm excited to get to know all of you."

As she spoke, something about her face struck me. It was so familiar, but I couldn't place where or when we'd met. Had we crossed paths before? I was sure of it, but the memory eluded me, leaving me confused.

"Tristan."

"Yes, Ma'am?"

"Hanna will sit beside you. Could you show her to her seat?"

"Sure, Ma'am."I gestured to the empty desk next to mine.

"Here's your seat. I'm Tristan, by the way. Nice to meet you."

"Thank you. I'm Hanna. Nice to meet you too."

Hanna was more than just smart and beautiful. She had a kind heart, a sharp mind, and an undeniable talent, both in academics and sports. It was as if everything came easily to her. What struck me the most, though, was her social ease. She connected with people effortlessly, making friends as if it was second nature. Within days, she had already built a network of friends, despite being new to the school.

The Bell ringing....

"Class, time for a break!"

I sat alone, eating my lunch, when Hanna suddenly appeared next to me.

"Hello, you're Tristan, right? My seatmate?"

"Yeah, that's me. What's up?""Can I ask you something?" She asked, her tone curious.

"Sure, what's on your mind?"

"Have we met before?" I blinked.

"I think so. Your face looks really familiar."

"Hmmm... Wait! I remember now! You're the guy I bumped into that day! It's you!"

My heart skipped a beat. It was her. But I couldn't explain why I felt so... off. Was it excitement? Or was I just shy?

The world seemed so small in that moment. Why was she here, of all places? There were so many schools in this city, yet here she was, in the same class as me.

"Oh, I remember now. Sorry for the disturbance that day"

"No, no, it was my fault for rushing. It was just an accident. Let's forget about it."

"Okay," she smiled, but her gaze was still a little playful.

"Wait, are you covering your face because you're shy?"

"Shy? Me? No way!" I laughed it off nervously.

"Haha, are you sure?" she teased.

"Of course, yes!" She tilted her head and then said,

"By the way, you're cute and handsome, you know.

"I froze. Was she really saying this to me? My heart raced. Was she joking?

I couldn't believe it. I'd never been told that before, especially not by someone like her. I felt my cheeks flush, but I hoped she didn't notice.

"Cute? Handsome? Nah, that can't be me. You're just kidding."

"No, it's true! Why would I joke about that?"

"Alright, alright, you win. I won't argue with you."

"You're humble, too," She said with a grin.

"By the way, can we be friends?"

"Uh... sure. Why not? Let's be friends."

From that day on, we were inseparable. Breaks, after school—no matter the time, we were always together. People joked that we looked like a couple, but we both knew we were just friends. Nothing had changed. But the question remained—why me? There were so many other guys on campus—handsome, smart, and attractive. Why had she chosen me? Or was I just imagining things?
