Chapter 26: The Awakening of Veldris
The mountain peak trembled as the colossal vortex of chaotic energy raged above. Streams of black and white energy spiraled down, coiling like serpents around the towering figure of Veldris, whose presence alone seemed to defy the natural order. The chaotic energy was absorbed directly into his form, creating a storm of sheer destruction that shook the entire Yuanfeng country.
The Tremor Felt Across Yuanfeng
From the sprawling plains to the bustling cities, people felt the ground shudder beneath them. The tremors were unlike any natural disaster; they carried an oppressive weight, as though the very heavens had bent under the force of an immeasurable presence.
At the Heavenly Edge Sect, Sect Master Jian Tian stood on the main balcony of the grand hall, his usually calm face now marred with a deep frown. "What was that?" he muttered, his eyes narrowing as he gazed toward the direction of the disturbance.
The disciples gathered below whispered nervously among themselves. Even the elders exchanged uncertain glances. Jian Tian closed his eyes briefly, extending his spiritual sense.
"A quake... but not just that. A mysterious and terrifying energy. I have never sensed something so vast, so boundless..." His hand gripped the railing tightly, a faint crack appearing beneath his fingers. "It feels like... destiny itself is shifting."
Meanwhile, at the Shen Wu Sect, Sect Master Tian Wu bolted upright from his seat in the main hall, his usually composed demeanor now replaced with unease. Beads of sweat trickled down his temple as he muttered to himself, "What... what was that?"
His voice was a mix of confusion and fear. The oppressive energy he sensed moments ago had left a deep impression. His mind raced as he connected the dots. "First, the destruction of the heavenly pillar during the Ceremony of Heaven's Holy Ground... then the inexplicable surge of energy (*** author reminder***when Xuan Li laid his foundation.) And now this."
He gripped the armrest of his chair tightly, his knuckles turning white. "Is this... some kind of omen? A sign that fate itself is shifting?"
Back on Heavenly Abyss Mountain, the chaotic energy surged into Veldris, creating a storm of unfathomable power. His form radiated an aura so immense that it bent reality itself.
At the foot of the storm, Mei Xue trembled violently. Her heavenly aura, usually a source of pride and strength, recoiled under the oppressive weight of Veldris's presence. She dared not lift her gaze.
Her mind spun in disarray. "A transcendent existence... this power is beyond comprehension. Who is it? Just who in this world wields such might?"
What Mei Xue didn't know was that Veldris wasn't exerting even one percent of his power. If she did, she would have dropped to her knees, worshiping him as a god.
High above, Veldris frowned. his majestical eyes glowed faintly as he sensed the balance of power across the region faltering.
"Even my mere presence alone disrupts this plane," he thought with a weary sigh. With a snap of his fingers, he concealed his presence, returning the mountain to a fragile stillness.
The trembling ground steadied, and the oppressive energy dissipated. Veldris muttered to himself, "This is why I rarely make a move. A single careless action could ruin everything."
As Veldris silently absorbed the chaotic energy, Mei Xue gathered her courage to glance toward Xuan Li. Her eyes widened.
Surrounded by the black-and-white aura of the Ethereal Starvine, Xuan Li sat cross-legged, his face pale but calm. The energy around him was powerful, yet alien—an aura that simultaneously threatened and fascinated her.
She sighed, her thoughts conflicted. "Xuan Li, you're so mysterious. This energy surrounding you feels threatening, yet... I can't explain it. When I truly sense it, I feel as though it created me... as though everything is connected to this energy. But why does my heavenly aura reject it?"
She hesitated, taking a cautious step closer to Xuan Li. She longed to know more about him, but the swirling aura around him made it impossible to get too close.
"You know..." she murmured, her voice barely audible, "I..."
Her words caught in her throat as a realization struck her. She stepped back abruptly, her cheeks flushing red. "What was I about to say? Was I going to confess... now of all times? That was close."
Turning away, she muttered to herself, "But... I hope one day I can say it clearly and loud, to you."
Sitting cross-legged nearby, Mei Xue noticed that the barrier Verdris had placed around her earlier was now gone. Panic flickered in her chest. "Without the barrier, how will I survive? The chaotic aura should consume me."
To her surprise, nothing happened. The chaos energy had been completely absorbed by Veldris, leaving her unharmed. A sigh of relief escaped her lips.
Hovering above, Veldris finished absorbing the chaotic energy. The swirling vortex dissipated into nothingness, leaving the mountain eerily quiet. His form shimmered briefly before returning to the locket around Xuan Li's neck.
As he re-entered the locket, Veldris mused, "You've done well, disciple. Your determination is commendable. Now... it's my turn to regain a fraction of my strength."
His presence faded, leaving the mountain in peace.
Mei Xue sat quietly near Xuan Li, her gaze lingering on his still figure. "You've suffered so much, Xuan Li," she thought. "This energy... it feels like the foundation of everything, yet it clashes with my own. I want to understand you better, but there's a barrier between us. Perhaps, one day, if we're close enough, you'll share your secrets with me."
She clasped her hands together, determination gleaming in her eyes.
As the night grew darker, Mei Xue meditated, drawing strength from her resolve. For now, all she could do was wait for Xuan Li to recover.
Above them, the stars shimmered, their light piercing through the veil of night like silent watchers of an unfolding tale. It was as if they bore witness to a destiny slowly being unraveled—threads of fate weaving together in ways even the heavens could not foresee.
The mountain, now calm after the storm of chaos, stood as a testament to the trials endured. Yet, in the silence, one truth lingered: this was but the beginning of a journey that would challenge the heaven's itself.
