Veil of the Shattered Heavens

Chapter 27: The Four Heavenly Beacons

The Heavenly Edge Sect buzzed with its usual tranquility, disciples going about their routines, unaware of the storm brewing in the unseen realm. Yet, as the sun reached its zenith, the peaceful day was disrupted by a faint ripple in the air.

At first, it was subtle, barely noticeable, but soon, the ripples intensified, accompanied by a low, resonant hum that echoed through the sect and its surroundings. The skies darkened as thunderclouds began to gather ominously, their shadows casting an eerie gloom.

In the midst of this phenomenon, a brilliant jade-blue light erupted from one of the inner chambers, shattering the roof in an explosive burst of energy. The heavenly aura in the surroundings surged violently, rushing toward the source of the light, as if bowing to its supreme authority.

Jian Tian, the sect master of the Heavenly Edge Sect, stood atop the main hall, gazing at the unfolding spectacle with a serene smile. His sharp eyes reflected the jade-blue brilliance rising from the chamber. He chuckled softly, stroking his beard.

"Ah, Ling Yuna, my outstanding disciple. You've done it. Breaking through to the Foundation Level and soaring directly to the Essence Sensing Level of the 2nd realm... Truly remarkable."

Jian Tian's gaze turned skyward as the thunderclouds condensed further, heralding the coming of a heavenly tribulation. "Others might not find a 2nd-level cultivator extraordinary, but your ability, the Ten Thousand Sword Empress, is unparalleled. Even at the early stage of the 2nd level, you rival those in the mid-stage of the same realm. A true god-tier ability, indeed."

Within her room, Ling Yuna sat cross-legged, her eyes closed. The jade-blue light around her shimmered like a protective cocoon. As the thunderclouds crackled ominously, she opened her eyes. They gleamed with a sharp, otherworldly light.

Rising to her feet, she looked at the sky through the shattered roof, a small smirk playing on her lips. "So, the heavens wish to test me? Let's see who prevails."

As Ling Yuna prepared to face her tribulation, Jian Tian's smile faded into a frown. His sharp senses picked up something unusual—an anomaly he could not ignore.

"What... in the world is happening?" he muttered, his brows furrowed deeply. He scanned the horizon, his expression turning grave.

Far away, in the Shen Wu Sect, an equally powerful phenomenon unfolded. Lei Zhen, a disciple known for his unparalleled control over thunder, had just broken through to a half-step into the late stage of the 1st level, triggering his own heavenly tribulation.

At the same time, in the Dragon Dive Sect, Long Zhenyu, a prodigy blessed with the Divine Dragon's Mark, ascended directly to the late stage of the 1st level, his breakthrough accompanied by an earth-shaking roar.

Finally, in the Blazing Sun Sect, Lie Hongzhi, a cultivator wielding the mighty Emperor Flame, shattered his limits, igniting the heavens themselves as he reached the late stage of the 1st level.

Four heavenly tribulations simultaneously manifested across Yuanfeng. The skies above these sects darkened, and the heavens roared in response to the prodigious talent displayed by these individuals.

The sect masters of each respective sect watched in awe, their thoughts aligned:

"The blessings of the heavens have descended upon us."

Ling Yuna stood amidst the rising storm of her tribulation, calm and composed. Thunder raged above her, but her confidence never wavered. With a flick of her wrist, a glowing jade-blue sword materialized in her hand.

"Let's pass this heavenly tribulation," she declared, her voice unwavering.

The same determination echoed in Lei Zhen's heart as bolts of golden thunder swirled around him like serpents. Long Zhenyu roared, his dragon manifestation mirroring his power, while Lie Hongzhi burned with the fury of a thousand suns.

One by one, the tribulations were conquered. The heavens bowed to their might, retreating after testing their resilience. As the trials ended, the sky erupted with beams of radiant light from each sect.

Heavenly Edge Sect: A majestic figure surrounded by a storm of jade-blue swords appeared in the sky, representing Ling Yuna's Ten Thousand Sword Empress ability. Shen Wu Sect: Thunder raged across the heavens, Lei Zhen's High-Tier Thunder ability manifesting as an endless cascade of lightning. Blazing Sun Sect: The skies ignited, blazing with crimson flames as Lie Hongzhi's Emperor Flame ability painted the heavens red. Dragon Dive Sect: A titanic dragon, ten thousand feet long, soared across the skies, its roar shaking the land as it embodied Long Zhenyu's Divine Dragon's Blessing.

These manifestations filled the common people with awe. Unable to comprehend such overwhelming majesty, they knelt, clasping their hands in prayer. "Please bless us, heavenly incarnators!"

Ling Yuna stood atop her sect's highest peak, basking in the adoration emanating from below. She smirked, her thoughts drifting to a familiar face.

"So, this is what it feels like to be revered. I wonder how that trash, Xuan Li, is doing now. Perhaps he's seen this and realizes just how wide the gap between us has grown."

Meanwhile, on the Heavenly Abyss Mountain, Mei Xue gazed at the sky. The four figures of majesty etched into the heavens filled her heart with both awe and bitterness.

"If only I had such power," she murmured, "I wouldn't be so miserable. I'd finally be able to protect the person I care about."

Her gaze shifted to Xuan Li, still seated in cultivation. She sighed and turned away, resolving to push such thoughts aside.

Suddenly, a voice, cold and majestic, resonated around her. It carried a weight that pierced her soul:

"If you truly think innate ability alone makes one strong... then you are gravely mistaken."

Mei Xue froze, her body trembling. "Who... who is there?" she whispered, her voice shaky.

The only answer was silence, but the words lingered, sinking deep into her heart.

Above them, the stars shimmered as if bearing witness to a destiny slowly being unraveled. Mei Xue's gaze returned to Xuan Li, her heart conflicted yet hopeful.

"Xuan Li..." she muttered under her breath, "Maybe, just maybe, one day, you'll let me carry even a fraction of your burdens—and help lighten your load."

From within his locket, Veldris watched the sky, his expression unreadable. But in his heart, a faint glimmer of pride stirred.

"Disciple, your journey has only just begun. Let's see how far your determination can take you."
