Vengeful Ascension: The Rise of a Demon Emperor

Chapter 51: Subjugating the 7th Lower Demon[2]

The shadows deepened as Adrian's team pushed further into Dravokh's Estate. Every step felt like wading through a mire of corruption, each breath heavy with a foul stench that clung to the air. It wasn't just the walls that seemed alive here—it was the silence, the waiting, the dread that gnawed at the back of Adrian's mind.

Adrian led the way, his sword steady in his hand, but the oppressive atmosphere was starting to wear on even him. Behind him, Seraphina whispered another incantation, the faint glow of her staff casting a fragile light against the smothering darkness.

"This place feels… wrong," Kiera said softly, her fingers trailing along the stone wall. Even her druidic connection to nature was dulled here. "It's like the land itself is crying, but there's no life left to hear it."

Adrian glanced back. "We're close. Stay focused."

The next set of double doors stood at the end of the corridor. Tall, imposing, carved with grotesque symbols that seemed to shift when looked at too long. Kiera swallowed hard. "Whatever's behind there, it's waiting for us."

The doors creaked open, groaning as if protesting their entry. Adrian stepped inside first, and the breath caught in his throat.

The chamber was massive, its vaulted ceilings lost to shadow. Columns lined the walls, carved in the twisted visages of demons long forgotten. And at the center of the room stood Dravokh—the Seventh Seat of the Lower Demons.

He was an abomination. Towering in height, his obsidian armor gleamed with sickly red runes. His horns curved sharply back, framing a face that twisted between smug arrogance and hunger. Dark energy crackled around him, the air vibrating with his sheer presence.

The moment Adrian and his team entered, Dravokh's crimson eyes turned to them. A deep, reverberating laugh rumbled from his chest, as if he had been expecting this.

"You've finally arrived," Dravokh said, his voice a dark melody of mockery. "And here I thought I'd have to hunt you down. Humans always bring themselves to slaughter."

Adrian stepped forward, meeting Dravokh's gaze without faltering. "Your corruption ends here, Dravokh. You've terrorized this land long enough."

The demon tilted his head, amusement flashing in his gaze. "Such brave words for a child who barely survived our last encounter. Did you come to beg for death?"

Adrian tightened his grip on his sword, ignoring the fear clawing at his chest. "No. I came to put an end to you."

Dravokh's laugh echoed through the chamber. "Then come, little knight. Let's see how much you've learned."

The air exploded with tension as Dravokh raised his arm, a pulse of black energy rippling outward. Shadows erupted from the floor, taking shape as his grotesque minions—hulking beasts with claws like razors and eyes glowing crimson.

"Minions again?" Joked Jax, stepping forward, his axe resting on his shoulder. "This demon's getting predictable."

Adrian barked, "Focus! Take them down, fast!"

The team sprang into action. Lucas darted forward, his twin blades flashing in a blur of silver as he cut through two of the creatures. His movements were fluid, a deadly dance of precision. "Keep moving!" Lucas called, narrowly dodging a swipe.

Kael took position behind a broken column, his bowstring taut. He loosed arrow after arrow, each one striking its target with pinpoint accuracy. "I'll keep them off you—don't let them overwhelm us!"

Seraphina planted her staff firmly into the ground, chanting an incantation. A golden barrier shimmered around the team, shielding them from the initial wave of shadows. "My shields won't last forever! You need to thin them out!"

Adrian leaped forward, his sword slicing through two of the beasts as their bodies dissolved into smoke. "Push through!" he shouted, his aura flaring brighter.

But even as they fought, Dravokh watched with cold amusement, his armored figure unmoving as he observed the battle like a predator savoring its prey.

"You humans are persistent," Dravokh finally said, boredom seeping into his tone. "But this game is growing tiresome."

Raising his arm, he summoned a spear of pure darkness and hurled it toward Seraphina.

"Seraphina!" Adrian shouted.

Seraphina barely reacted in time. Her shield flared brightly, absorbing most of the impact, but the force sent her sprawling to the ground, her breath escaping in a pained gasp.

"Damn it!" Kiera rushed to her, green energy gathering at her fingertips. "Are you all right?"

Seraphina winced but nodded, her voice strained. "I'll be fine—keep going!"

Adrian turned back to Dravokh, his anger boiling. "Coward! Hiding behind your minions while others fight your battles!"

Dravokh's lips curled into a grin. "Very well. If you want my full attention… you shall have it."

The air in the chamber grew still—almost suffocating—as Dravokh's aura flared. The ground cracked beneath his feet, tendrils of shadow crawling outward like living things.

Adrian's instincts screamed danger. "Fall back!"

But Dravokh was faster. With a single step, he crossed the room, his clawed hand striking Adrian's blade in a collision that sent shockwaves through the chamber.

The force of it hurled Adrian backward, his boots skidding against the stone. He grunted, barely regaining his balance before Dravokh loomed over him, his towering form radiating malevolence.

"You are nothing but a spark," Dravokh growled, his clawed hand flexing. "And I am the storm."

Adrian didn't retreat. He charged forward, his sword igniting with a burst of aura as he aimed for Dravokh's core. Their weapons collided again—steel against shadow—sending ripples of force through the room.

"Now!" Adrian shouted.

From the side, Kael released an arrow charged with druidic energy, its glowing tip finding its mark on Dravokh's shoulder. The demon hissed, swatting the arrow away as smoke rose from the wound.

"You dare?!" Dravokh roared, his voice shaking the walls.

Lucas and Kiera seized the moment. Lucas struck at Dravokh's exposed flank, his blades carving shallow but effective wounds into the demon's armor, while Kiera's vines erupted from the ground, wrapping around Dravokh's legs to hold him in place.

Adrian pressed the attack, his sword blazing as he struck again, this time leaving a visible crack in Dravokh's armor.

Dravokh staggered, his crimson eyes burning with fury. "You insignificant insects!"

He unleashed an explosion of dark energy, breaking free from Kiera's vines and forcing the team back. Blood trickled down Adrian's lip, but he stood firm, his resolve unshaken.

Panting, Adrian met Dravokh's gaze, his voice steady. "You're not invincible. You bleed just like the rest of them."

Dravokh sneered, his fury palpable. "You haven't seen the half of my power, boy."

Adrian gripped his sword tighter, glancing at his teammates. Lucas was ready, his blades gleaming. Kael already had his next shot nocked. Kiera stood with her hands glowing, vines twitching at her fingertips. Seraphina, though bruised, stood tall, her magic radiating like a beacon of light.

Together, they were far stronger than alone.

Adrian took a steadying breath, his voice carrying through the chaos. "We can do this. We'll bring him down—together."

As the demon's aura flared once more, Adrian raised his sword, his eyes blazing with determination. The battle was far from over, but he wasn't about to back down.

Not now. Not ever.
