Vengeful Ascension: The Rise of a Demon Emperor

Chapter 53: Subjugating the 7th Lower Demon[4]

The chamber groaned under the weight of its own corruption as Adrian Falter stood his ground, staring down Dravokh, the Lower Seventh Demon. Flickering torchlight danced along the chamber walls, painting jagged shadows that seemed alive, writhing with the malevolence that bled from the demon's aura.

Dravokh's hulking form rose tall and menacing, obsidian armor marred by glowing red cracks from previous blows. His crimson eyes narrowed on Adrian, filled with a mixture of anger and a predator's amusement. Black ichor dripped from a wound at his side, hissing where it touched the ground.

"You're persistent, boy," Dravokh growled, his voice reverberating through the cavernous room like distant thunder. "Do you truly believe your blade will be enough to kill me?"

Adrian's breaths came hard and fast, his grip on his sword firm despite the ache in his arms. Sweat slid down his brow, but his resolve was unshaken. "It's not the blade, Dravokh—it's the will behind it."

The demon smirked, his jagged teeth glinting in the dim light. "Then let me break that will."

With a low roar, Dravokh lunged forward.

The impact of their clash sent shockwaves rippling through the chamber, shaking the walls. Dravokh's claws, black and curved like scythes, scraped against Adrian's blade, creating sparks that lit the darkened room. Adrian gritted his teeth, bracing as the force of the strike forced him to skid back across the stone floor.

"You'll have to do better than that!" Dravokh taunted, his voice echoing like a cruel hymn. With a sweep of his massive arm, he launched a torrent of shadowy energy—[Dark Rend]—that surged toward Adrian like a tidal wave.

"Dodge!" Adrian's instincts screamed, and he dove to the side just in time. The ground where he had stood cracked and blackened under the attack's pressure, the shadows lingering like poisonous fog.

Rolling to his feet, Adrian activated [Aura Burst], his aura flaring brightly as he shot forward with incredible speed. His blade glowed faintly blue as he aimed a strike at Dravokh's unarmored flank.

The demon snarled, twisting just enough to deflect the blow with his claws. "Faster than before… But still weak!"

Adrian didn't respond. He didn't have the luxury of words—only focus. He pushed forward, unleashing a flurry of strikes with [Blade Flurry], his sword dancing in his hands as he sought an opening in Dravokh's defenses.

Dravokh roared, his claws moving in broad sweeps that forced Adrian to weave, duck, and parry. Each miss by the demon sent gusts of wind tearing through the chamber, but Adrian stayed close, relentless in his assault.

Their strikes collided, steel meeting shadow, filling the air with sparks and fury.

Dravokh began to falter. His movements, while still powerful, were slowing. The gash Adrian had delivered earlier was draining him, black ichor staining the ground beneath his feet.

"You're bleeding, Dravokh," Adrian said, his voice calm but edged with fire. "Even you can't fight forever."

The demon's laughter came low and ragged, as though each breath pained him. "You think a wound like this matters? Foolish human!"

With a roar that shook the chamber, Dravokh slammed his claws into the ground. The earth trembled as tendrils of darkness erupted, twisting and writhing toward Adrian.

"[Shadow Bind]!"

Adrian leapt backward, narrowly avoiding the grasping tendrils, but one caught his ankle. He cried out as it coiled tightly, pulling him off balance and toward the ground.

Dravokh grinned, stepping closer with slow, deliberate movements. "You've fought well, boy. I'll give you that. But this is where it ends."

Adrian gritted his teeth, fighting against the dark tendril that dragged him. The pressure grew unbearable, his ankle burning under the force of the spell.

"Adrian! Focus!" a voice echoed in his mind—Mohan's voice, his mentor's calm, commanding tone cutting through the haze.

"Focus," Adrian whispered, his eyes narrowing. He tightened his grip on his sword and activated [Aura Burst] once more.

The energy surged through him, and with a roar of effort, he swung his blade, severing the shadowy tendril in one clean arc.

The moment he was free, Adrian's aura flared brighter than ever. He sprinted toward Dravokh, his sword glowing like a beacon in the darkness.

Dravokh snarled as Adrian closed the distance, swinging his claws in a final, desperate attack. "[Dark Rend]!"

But Adrian was ready. He twisted mid-run, the demon's attack narrowly missing him. As Dravokh's momentum carried him forward, Adrian struck.

"[Aura Breaker]!"

All of Adrian's energy concentrated into his blade, the light blazing brighter than the torches themselves. He swung with all his strength, aiming straight for Dravokh's chest.

Time seemed to slow.

The strike connected, and the demon let out a deafening roar of agony as Adrian's blade shattered through his obsidian armor, plunging deep into his core. Black ichor erupted like a geyser, splattering across the chamber.

Adrian withdrew his sword and stumbled back, his chest heaving.

Dravokh fell to his knees, his massive form trembling as his once-overwhelming aura flickered like a dying flame.

"You… wretched… human…" Dravokh growled, his voice broken and weak.

Adrian steadied himself, his sword still ready, his breaths ragged. "It's over, Dravokh. You've lost."

The demon's crimson eyes, now dimming, flicked toward Adrian with pure hatred. "You think… this victory matters? You think… you've won?"

Dravokh tried to rise, his claws scraping weakly against the stone floor. His pride refused to let him fall, but his strength was gone.

Adrian took a step forward, his voice steady despite his exhaustion. "You terrorized this land. You spread fear and darkness. I promised to stop you—and I will."

Dravokh let out a final growl, his form trembling. His once-mighty presence was reduced to little more than a shadow of itself.

As Adrian raised his sword for the final blow, Dravokh's head lowered, his voice a whisper of malice. "This… is far from over…"
