Chapter 1: Chapter 1- 5
Chapter 1
Jon Snow Stark POV
I wake up to my alarm at 6:30. It's still dark outside, but I need to go wake up my brothers and sisters. It's the first day of school. I'm a junior now.
I feel like I should be happy about it, I'm an upperclassman now. I'm not, though. I've never been popular, and I know this year will be no different.
I have my own room, now. I used to share it with my older brother, Robb before he left for college. All my siblings are resentful that they still have to share a room, but it's not as great as it sounds.
I have to take my sister sansa to school with me, she starts her freshman year today. I'm worried about her, Winterfell is ruthless. But she's going to be a cheerleader, that should help.
I love my family, but I know I'm treated differently and I know why. My mother wishes I wasn't around. And honestly, it would probably make things easier on them if I wasn't.
After I wake up Sansa, she wakes up our sister Arya that's sleeping next to her. I try to wake up Bran and Rickon, but they're much harder to get up and moving. They're still in bed by the time Arya and Sansa are up and moving.
My parents get Bran and Rickon up, and they run out of the house with granola bars and Arya in tow to go to their respective schools. My mom usually takes them to school while my dad heads to work. They work together, and she'll join him after dropping off the kids.
Of course, we're running late so Sansa can do her makeup. I would get mad at her, but I don't blame her for wanting to make a good impression. It's her first day of high school, and she's heard the stories about how Winterfell treats freshmen. I'm worried about her, but I won't tell her that. She's nervous enough.
"You look very pretty." I say as she comes down the stairs and I hand her her lunchbox. She just smiles at me.
"I'm scared, Jon," Sansa says to me. We're in the car by now. "What if no one likes me?"
"Didn't you make friends at cheer camp? What about Margaery?"
"You know none of that matters if Daenerys doesn't like me. I was too scared to talk to her during cheer camp."
She's talking about Daenerys Stormborn-Targaryen. I hate saying this because it's so ridiculous and cliche, but she really is the most popular girl in school. She's a senior, so Margaery will probably replace her next year.
"You'll be fine." It's the only thing I can say because she's right. Daenerys is the one who needs to like her for her to have a chance at Winterfell.
We pull up to school. This is it, let the games begin.
Chapter 2
Sansa Stark POV
My first day started out okay, I just had English and biology. My friend Margaery said I could eat with her today, which is a relief. We're walking into the cafeteria when we get to her table. It's there that I see her: Daenerys Khaleesi Stormborn-Targaryen, sitting at the head of the table.
I stop dead in my tracks. "You didn't tell me you ate with Daenerys Targaryen," I whisper to her.
"She's not as scary as she seems," Margaery says to me. "Come with me, I know she'll like you."
I sit at the table, but I'm too scared to look Daenerys in the eyes. She's gorgeous, she doesn't even look real. Her hair is white-blond, long and curly and she has the perfect body. I can see why she's the most popular girl in school.
She's sitting with a couple guys and girls that I don't recognize. They fade in the background next to her.
"Dany, this is Sansa. She was at cheer camp with us." Margaery says. Good God, I want to die. Why did she do that?
"Oh hi, Sansa. I'm Dany. Nice to meet you." She waves at me and smiles. I got a smile out of Daenerys Targaryen. And Margaery calls her Dany, I can't imagine.
"I know," I say, and I immediately regret it. "It's so nice to meet you, Daenerys. Sorry for not talking much during cheer camp, I meant to come say hi."
"Oh that's fine, there was a lot going on there," Daenerys says before realizing something. "Oh, I'm sorry. I should introduce everyone. This is Cersei and her brother Jaime." She points to two blonds next to her. They don't look at me. I know who they are, but I didn't recognize them at first. Everyone knows about the Lannisters.
"And this is Theon and Ramsey," she continues, pointing to two other guys. They also don't talk to me, but Ramsey smiles at me. It's fine, I'm just glad to be sitting here. Maybe Winterfell High won't be that bad after all.
Chapter 3
Jon Snow Stark POV
The school day is finally over, but I have rock climbing practice. All sports and clubs start pretty much immediately when school starts, some start during the summer. I always thought it was weird, but people can still join at anytime so I guess it's okay.
I started rock climbing last year, and I really like it. It helps take my mind off things. I'm especially glad because my best friend Sam agreed to join this year, I've been asking him to a lot. We're getting ready in the gym, but all Sam can talk about is a girl he met in his history class.
"She's really shy and quiet, but I can tell she's smart. And she's so pretty, John." He keeps gushing over this girl. I like girls as much as the next guy, but sometimes I wish Sam wasn't so obsessed with them. We have more things to worry about. We're interrupted by Coach Tarth, which is kind of a relief.
"Okay, everyone," she says. "Since we have some new people this year, I want us to try something different. Instead of pairing up yourselves to spot and climb, I'm going to pair you up. It'll give everyone a chance to get to know each other."
I'm not super excited about the idea. I wanted to be paired up with Sam. Most people aren't very welcoming to me because of my family and the scandal I ultimately caused. I've always been kind of an outsider.
She's pairing everyone up, but I'm not really listening. Sam gets paired up with someone I recognize, but the name escapes me. I'm still zoned out when someone startles me.
"You're Jon?" The person says.
I snap out of my trance. "Yes," I say turning to look at the person. It's a girl with red hair, I've definitely never seen her before.
"I'm Ygritte. They paired us up but I don't think you were listening."
"I wasn't. I'm sorry, a lot is on my mind."
"I'm sure. Come on, let's go. We don't have all day."
She keeps teasing me while spotting me. I just met her, I don't know what she has against me but she thinks it's hilarious. "So are you new here?" I ask her.
"Yep, just transferred this year," she says. "I moved in with my cousin Thormund." That's who was paired up with Sam. He was on the team last year, but I don't really take time to get to know the others.
I get down from the rock wall so we can trade. "Are you ready to climb or do you need help?" I ask her.
"I've been doing this longer than you've been walking," she smirks at me. "Just don't stare at my ass." Good God, she's something else
Chapter 4
Sansa Stark POV
I'm heading to Margaery's house after school so she can help me with math, but mostly so we can gossip. I'm really glad she's my friend, I would be so lost without her.
I'm sitting against her bed while trying to do my math homework. She's spinning in her swivel chair.
"So how was the first day?" She asks me.
"It was okay," I say. "Thank you so much for letting me sit with you."
"Of course, you can keep sitting with us."
"Daenerys doesn't mind?"
"No, Dany likes you. And we start cheer practice tomorrow, so you might as well."
"I didn't know you knew the Lannisters."
"Yeah, I don't know them that well. Dany grew up with them so she and Cersei are kind of like sisters."
There's a long pause. I want to ask her something, but I'm scared. I decide I have to ask her. "Is it true? What they say about the Lannister twins?"
Margaery looks at me for a moment. "I think so, but it's best not to say anything. They throw the best parties, and they're loaded so no one really cares until they need some gossip to bring up."
"Isn't that gross and weird if it's true?"
"Obviously, yeah. But I've never gotten along great with Cersei, so it's really not my place to ask questions."
"What about Jaime?"
"He's nice enough, but he keeps to himself a lot. He only really hangs out with the other jocks or Cersei. He doesn't talk much."
I want to ask her more about the popular people now that I have a chance with them, but I'm stopped by hearing the front door open. Margaery walks out of her room and I follow.
"Where have you been?" She asks the person coming in.
"I was at Renly's," the person says. "We were practicing for auditions next week."
"Good thing Grandma's not home. She would have your ass."
That statement reminds me that it's getting late. "Actually, I should go. It's almost 8." I tell Margaery.
"I'll take you home," she says. "Oh Loras, this is Sansa. She's the one I was telling you about. Sansa, this is my brother Loras. He's in theatre and he's on the fencing team. He's really good."
She told him about me? "It's nice to meet you." He's kinda cute. Margaery grabs her keys and we head out.
Chapter 5
Jon Snow Stark POV
I'm sitting at the dining table, helping Arya with math. She's in 7th grade now, and she doesn't do well with math. For some reason she can always tell when someone's lying, but math is not her strength. I'm hoping to talk to Sam on the phone tonight, but I know all he'll want to talk about is that girl. Sansa walks through the door. My mom comes out of the kitchen.
"Sansa, you know you can't stay out this late on a school night." My mom isn't happy.
"I'm sorry, mom," she says. "Margaery was helping me with my first essay."
My mom kisses Sansa's forehead and whispers, "I just worry about you."
"I know mom," she whispers back. She heads up to her room and Arya runs up the stairs behind her. I know she wants to grill her about high school. Almost as if he knows, the phone rings and I know it's Sam.
My mom answers it and then walks over to me. "It's Sam," she says while giving the phone to me.
"Hey, Sam," I say as I go to my room. "How was your first day?"
"It was so good, Jon," he's so excited. "I never finished telling you about Gilly."
"Is that her name?"
"Yes. She's so cute and smart. She has trouble reading, but I can tell she's smart. I want to ask her out."
"Sam, slow down. Maybe get to know her a bit first, so you don't come on too strong. You don't want to get too preoccupied with girls, we have enough on our plates."
"You're always such a downer," he says while chuckling. "I've never had a girlfriend, and you never have either. Don't you think it would be nice?"
I just exhale, it would be. "Sam, you know how I feel about relationships."
"I know, but I don't want you to miss out."
"Thank you. I have to start my homework. See you tomorrow"
"Bye, buddy." He hangs up.
He's right, I've never had a real girlfriend. I've kissed a couple of girls, but it's never gone beyond that. I just want to get through high school. I need to make something of myself before i can think about being with someone. If I had a girlfriend, that would distract me.
