Chapter 22: The End of the Day
Looking at Noah going towards Luna and the others without Elise, Winifred understood Elise's plan.
"So, what story is Mister Noah going to tell Luna and the others?" Winifred asked curiously.
"He's just going to tell them that another party asked him to bring Leo and the others to the east city gate, where their friends are waiting for them, and the others to the guild so their friends and family can find them," Elise said, while looking towards the carriage heading towards the east city gate.
"What about the memories? Don't you think they will get suspicious?" Winifred replied.
"They'll lose all their memories after we see them in the cave, and if Luna and the others meet us in the city and ask what happened, we just tell them we don't know anything. We never met our friends after that, okay?" Elise explained her plan.
"Winifred understands! Okay, I understand," Winifred replied.
"Let's go. The sun is going to set behind the mountain. Let's go home and make some tasty food. You must be tired and hungry too, but I guess you forgot all about that after what happened today, right?" Elise laughed.
"Yeah, I actually forgot about that. I haven't eaten anything since morning," Winifred replied with a smile.
After that, Elise offered Winifred her hand. Winifred grabbed Elise's hand, understanding that they were going to fly towards home again.
Elise and Winifred started walking towards the mountain slope top where they had landed last time and the direction that Noah's carriage had come from.
Elise and Winifred continued walking towards the mountain top, with Elise still holding Winifred's hand.
"We'll start flying from where we landed before, so others won't notice, okay?" Elise said.
"Okay," Winifred replied.
"We'll start your magic training tomorrow, okay?" Elise suddenly said while they walked.
Hearing that she was going to start learning magic tomorrow, a smile appeared on Winifred's face.
"Oh, okay," Winifred replied.
"Not in the morning, but after noon. Maybe tomorrow, we'll first go shopping, and then I'll start teaching you, okay?" Elise said.
"Okay," Winifred replied.
"Sorry, you'll have to wear the same old clothes one more time," Elise said with a bit of a smile.
"It's fine, actually," Winifred replied with a smile too.
"Here we are, the top! Let's fly!" Elise said after reaching the top of the small mountain.
"Oh, wait a minute! First, look at the city," Elise said, suddenly stopping.
It was becoming dark; the sun was mostly hidden behind the mountain, with only a bit of light left. Hearing Elise, Winifred looked towards the city from the top of the slope.
"It's beautiful," Winifred replied, her face showing shock at the beauty of the city at night.
The sky was filled with stars, and the city was shining just like stars in the sky. The entire city was visible to Winifred's eyes, with lights everywhere. Looking at the city from the top at night, it looked marvelous.
"Here's a question: When does the city look more beautiful, during the day or night?" Elise asked.
Winifred thought for a bit, then suddenly replied, "I want to say at night, but I'm not sure."
Hearing Winifred's reply, Elise smiled. "Yes, I know. Noah said he likes the city at night. Doll said he likes the city at night too. Dune said he was confused, like you and me. And that prince said he doesn't like it at any moment, whether it's day or night. But I know he actually likes the city during the day; I've seen it in his eyes," Elise said, explaining how others liked the city.
"Who's the prince?" Winifred replied.
Winifred knew that Dune was related to Noah because she had overheard their conversation, but she had never heard about the prince.
"Oh, you've never met him? Don't worry, I'll introduce him to you. Let's go," Elise said, looking towards Winifred with a smile.
Hearing Elise, Winifred thought that Elise would introduce the prince to her when he came to meet her, just like Noah had come today.
After that, Elise and Winifred suddenly started going up in the air, but this time, they didn't go too high in the sky.
"This distance will be enough! No one will see us at night, and even if they do, we can just erase their memory," Elise said with a smile.
'She's a bit scary,' Winifred thought, hearing what Elise said.
Elise and Winifred flew towards the home. While flying, Winifred was still thinking about tomorrow—the day she was going to start learning magic.
'I will tell her tomorrow that she has only four years to learn magic to pass the school admission test, because after that, she has to live by herself,' Elise thought slightly, looking at Winifred. She has already experienced enough today, so I won't tell her this today. But she must know soon, so I will tell her tomorrow, maybe.
Winifred was lost in the beauty of nature around her and the thought that Elise was going to start teaching magic tomorrow. Everything that happened today made Winifred forget everything. She was smiling inside and feeling happy. The happiness that she had only remembered from her time with her parents.
After a while…
Winifred and Elise landed near the home. The door opened automatically, and Elise and Winifred entered the house.
"Hello there, little girl. How's your day?" Doll asked from the table where he had been sitting before.
"Oh… it was a good day, Mister Doll," Winifred replied, looking at Doll with a worried expression, remembering what happened today.
"Oh, I see. So, Elise is starting to teach you how to lie as well, huh?" Doll said.
Hearing Doll, Winifred understood that Doll knew everything that had happened today.
Winifred looked towards Elise at the back, but there was no one there.
'What? Where did she go?' Winifred thought.
Winifred looked towards Elise's room, and she saw Elise slowly heading towards her room, trying to hide from Doll.
'You really think you can hide from me?' Doll said.
Hearing Doll, Elise suddenly vanished. Winifred was looking at Elise, knowing that Elise had teleported herself.
"Where did she go?" Winifred said in shock.
"Don't worry, she'll be in his room. So, come sit here. I have to talk to you," Doll said.
Hearing Doll, Winifred knew why Elise had run.
Winifred quietly sat near Doll.
