Chapter 23: The Beginning of Mage
"Only take the good things from her! She has many bad habits, you know," Doll said in a heavy voice.
"Okay," Winifred replied in a low voice.
Suddenly, a voice came from the kitchen.
"Winifred, don't listen too much to this doll; you'll become like him," Elise said in a loud voice.
"You should first drop her at her home and then resume the mission. Why did you take her with you?" Doll asked in a simple tone.
"She needs to learn fast. I can't let an opportunity like this go," Elise replied.
"That was correct, Winifred!" Doll said quickly and in a heavy voice.
Winifred was suddenly shocked to hear her name.
"Yes, Mr. Doll," Winifred replied quickly.
"Don't scare her, Doll!" Elise yelled from inside the kitchen.
"Ooo… my fault. Sorry, Winifred," Doll replied, understanding his mistake.
Listening to Doll and Elise's conversation, Winifred smiled softly to herself.
"So, how was the experience on the battlefield, Winifred?" Doll asked.
"It was scary, but I learned many things," Winifred replied.
"Well, that's true. You can always learn something from a fight," Doll said.
After that, Winifred and Doll talked about many things while Elise was busy cooking in the kitchen.
After a while, Elise finished cooking.
"Has the prince come back?" Elise asked.
"No, he hasn't," Doll replied.
Winifred was a bit confused about what Elise and Doll were talking about and wondered, Who is this prince?
After dinner, Elise told Winifred to sleep because it had been a hard day for her. Hearing Elise, Winifred realized she was tired. She went to the place where she had slept the last time.
Lying on the bed, Winifred thought about her day. Her thoughts and emotions were mixed—some fear, some shock, and some happiness. Winifred couldn't tell whether today was good, bad, or something else entirely. She couldn't understand it, but one thing she knew was that she was satisfied with it.
Thinking about the day and her memories, Winifred suddenly fell asleep.
In the hall...
"I've decided. I'm going to start teaching her magic from tomorrow!" Elise said, sitting on the sofa near the bonfire, drinking and enjoying herself.
"You mean you're going to unlock her mana circuit tomorrow?" Doll asked from the table near the sofa.
Hearing about unlocking the mana circuit, Elise was suddenly shocked. Some of her drink spilled from her mouth in surprise.
"Slowly! You're such a heavy drinker, you know," Doll said.
"Doll, I actually forgot about the mana circuit," Elise admitted, looking at Doll in shock.
"What kind of teacher are you?" Doll asked in a hard voice.
Elise cleaned her mouth because some of the drink had spilled on her. After cleaning up, Elise took another big sip of her drink.
"Don't worry; I'll manage," Elise said with a smile while drinking again.
"That girl's future is in the dark, you know, having a teacher like you," Doll replied, watching Elise drink freely.
"Don't worry," Elise replied, placing her finished drink on the table with a big smile.
"Even after 470 years, you're still immature," Doll said, arguing in a low voice.
"Hahaha…" Elise laughed, hearing Doll's comment.
Next morning
It was early morning. The sun was rising in the west, the fresh, cold air was blowing rapidly, and the sun's rays were warming the ground, creating a beautiful view.
Opening the house door automatically, Elise and Winifred stepped outside.
"Don't take any other missions today," Doll yelled from inside the house.
"Don't worry," Elise replied, yelling back.
Hearing Elise and Doll's conversation, Winifred laughed.
"Are you ready? Let's go," Elise said, offering her hand to Winifred with a smile.
After that, Elise and Winifred flew toward the east city gate again.
While flying in the air with Elise, Winifred was enjoying the view and was excited about learning magic.
"There won't be a fixed time for teaching you. I'll teach you whenever I get time, okay?" Elise said.
"So, I'm starting to teach you now, so listen to me carefully, okay?" Elise continued.
"You mean you're starting to teach me now?" Winifred asked, a bit shocked.
"Yes, so listen carefully, okay?" Elise said with a smile.
Hearing that, a big smile appeared on Winifred's face.
My first step toward my dreams, she thought.
"I'll teach you the theory first. Tomorrow, we'll unlock your mana circuit, and then you'll start practicing magic," Elise said in a serious voice.
"Okay," Winifred replied, listening carefully.
While flying, Elise started explaining magic to Winifred, who listened intently.
"Everyone has energy within them. This energy varies for everyone, and we call it mana. To perform magic, you need to use mana. By altering mana, you can perform different kinds of magic," Elise explained.
"You can generate fire, ice, rocks, or even things like tree branches by altering mana. Every wizard and witch has their own unique magic element. You'll have to choose one element to master.
"Next, there are different classes. For example Mage, Mage means you learn both an element and a class. Luna is not a mage; she's an assassin. She uses magic tailored for assassinations. The injured man we rescued earlier was a warrior. Warriors like Ray use swords with magic. There are other classes too.
"So, you'll have to choose whether you want to learn both a class and an element or just focus on one. If you choose only one, like a class or an element, you'll advance quickly in that field. So, tell me, what do you want to choose?" Elise asked.
Hearing Elise, Winifred thought for a bit before replying.
"I want to learn both."
Hearing Winifred's reply, Elise smiled.
"One more thing—learning only a class or an element is easy. But if you want to learn both and become a mage, it will be hard. Your training over the next four years will be intense, so choose carefully," Elise said with a smile.
With unwavering seriousness in her eyes, Winifred replied, "I know, but I want to learn both. That's why I want to become a mage.
