Chapter 101: Chapter 101: The Lord of Ravens
Within the soul space, Ulysses, the Lord of Ravens, was struggling in terror. Before him, an unassuming furnace spewed flames, yet despite being a deity, even in his current fragmented soul state, he could sense the terrifying power of rules within the furnace's fire.
In his current state, even a single spark from that furnace's flames would reduce him to nothingness.
"Who is this kid, to have something so terrifying within his soul?" Ulysses wondered in horror.
Such an entity would only be found in a pantheon, and possibly owned by a god-king. Why did it appear within the soul of someone who wasn't even a demigod?
Before Ulysses could ponder further, another terrifying realization struck him.
He could clearly sense that he was just a body away from a world's consciousness, and this consciousness was vast, even larger than the consciousness of his own Raven World. If he dared to venture out, he would be obliterated in less than a second.
"Did I end up in the body of some god-king's offspring?" Ulysses lamented.
Having barely escaped from the pursuit of those abyssal scum, he now found himself in such a dire situation. He was caught between a rock and a hard place: trying to possess this body would mean confronting the terrifying furnace, while escaping would bring the world's consciousness down upon him.
"What are you?" Richard's mental projection suddenly appeared in the soul space.
Just moments ago, Richard's consciousness had returned to his body, and he had heard the rants of this otherworldly entity calling itself the Lord of Ravens.
"What am I?"
Ulysses, seeing Richard appear suddenly, felt a surge of anger.
Since becoming a deity, no one had dared speak to him in such a manner.
But then he glimpsed the terrifying furnace nearby, and his flicker of anger was snuffed out, replaced by fear.
To grow under the protection of a world's consciousness and possess such a terrifying furnace, this kid's identity must be extraordinary.
"I am Ulysses, the Lord of Ravens and chief deity of the Raven World. I was engaged in battle with those abyssal scum and was chased into the sea of souls. Thanks to you, young friend, I managed to escape that peril."
Ulysses chose his words carefully, revealing his identity and explaining the situation.
If Richard was indeed, as Ulysses suspected, a god-king's offspring, then he might just be safe.
However, Richard was neither a god-king's child nor a creature from any world Ulysses knew.
"Chief deity of the Raven World?" Richard chuckled mockingly. "Just another so-called god from a native world.
I bet you came into my soul space with the intention of possession."
Ulysses felt a chill in his heart.
"He's never heard of me and calls me a native. Could I have ended up in a new world cluster, not the Pantheon World Cluster?"
Ulysses' thoughts raced. His situation was precarious, and if he didn't show his worth, this young one might just hand him over to his elders, and he'd be left with no options.
"Don't joke, young friend. How could I do something only a wicked god would do?" Ulysses feigned righteousness.
"You say you haven't heard of me, but have you heard of the Pantheon? I am a general under the Eternal Lord, the god-king of the Pantheon. If you can return me to the Pantheon, there will be great rewards."
Ulysses prayed inwardly, hoping Richard had at least heard of the Pantheon, thus giving him a sliver of hope for freedom.
"Pantheon? Never heard of it," Richard continued to deny.
Upon hearing this, Ulysses felt a chill spread through his heart.
Where on earth had he ended up?
The Pantheon World Cluster's reputation spread across several neighboring world clusters, yet this remarkable kid hadn't heard of it.
"So, Ulysses, how do you plan to resolve the matter of entering my soul space?"
Richard's voice was calm, yet it sent shivers down Ulysses' spine like the voice of a demon.
He was trapped.
Ulysses struggled to maintain his composure, understanding that he had few options left.
"Being from another world, I am willing to serve you for three thousand years to atone for my mistake."
Ulysses guessed that the being before him would need to vie for favor under parental oversight, much like the ninety-nine offspring of the Eternal God-King.
Gaining favor naturally required strength.
Ulysses' current state was dire, his soul severely damaged from fleeing the sea of souls, and his divine core fragmented. But with the help of a god-king's child, his injuries could heal rapidly.
His quick offer to serve as a slave was based on this calculation.
In his view, this was a mutually beneficial deal.
"Three thousand years?" Richard's interest piqued.
He had been bluffing, leveraging the power of the mysterious furnace to intimidate this world deity, never expecting to gain something substantial.
Richard's hesitation, however, made Ulysses uneasy, sensing that three thousand years might not satisfy the young one.
"If you're not satisfied, how about five thousand years?" Ulysses upped his offer.
Five thousand years was a significant time for a deity, especially one with a damaged soul—its future lifespan could be uncertain. Five thousand years represented a considerable portion of its remaining life.
"Five thousand years?"
Richard was taken aback by the deity's generosity, yet it sparked another idea.
Richard attempted to control the Miracle Furnace. Upon becoming a wizard, he felt he had gained some control over it. He could now move the furnace within his soul space.
He could see that this world deity was deeply afraid of the furnace, and this fear was something he could leverage.
"Five thousand years is still not enough."
Richard moved the furnace closer to Ulysses, speaking coldly.
The furnace's approach made Ulysses retreat, but within Richard's soul space, no matter how far he backed away, the furnace continued to close in.
"Ten thousand years! I am willing to serve you for ten thousand years!" Ulysses cried out in panic.
"Very well," Richard smiled slightly, halting the furnace. "But how do you plan to fulfill this promise?"
"That's easy enough," Ulysses sighed in relief, seeing that Richard had agreed.
"I will make a destiny contract with you. Its binding power is absolutely reliable, and anyone violating it will face the wrath of destiny. If you don't believe me, you can ask your elders—they will tell you how formidable a destiny contract is."
Destiny contracts were not unfamiliar to Richard.
The contract he signed with Jolord was a crude version derived from the Tower of Truth's destiny contracts. Even Truth Wizards were bound by such contracts, making them the most formidable of all contracts.
"Alright, I'll make a contract with you," Richard agreed.
...
A destiny contract had no physical form; its medium was the soul of a world deity-level creature, as only such a soul could bear the weight of destiny.
Ulysses painfully used fragments of his own soul to craft a destiny contract, which he then signed with Richard.
The contract stipulated that Ulysses would serve Richard for ten thousand years, during which time Ulysses could not betray Richard in any form and must obey all his commands.
The contract was exceedingly strict, yet under the furnace's threat, Ulysses still signed it.
To him, serving a god-king's offspring for ten thousand years wasn't shameful. Moreover, Richard, possessing such a treasure, was likely a favored offspring. By following Richard, Ulysses hoped to restore his former power and carve out a domain in this unknown world cluster.
Once the contract was signed, both Richard and Ulysses breathed a sigh of relief.
"Very well, now that we're on the same side, I have a few questions," Richard said with a smile.
Ulysses cautiously replied, "Ask away. Whatever I can share, I will."
"I'd like to hear about the Pantheon and the Abyss you mentioned. I'm curious about the force that can command someone as powerful as you and the force that pursued you to the sea of souls."
"That's simple." Ulysses readily agreed. "I wonder if you know the concept of world clusters."
Richard shook his head. Perhaps the wizarding world had this concept, but newly ascended, he knew little about the broader wizarding world.
"A world cluster is a structure where one or more great worlds are at the center, surrounded by tens of thousands of closely neighboring small and medium worlds. Both the Pantheon and the Abyss are civilizations that have unified a world cluster."
"Civilizations?"
"Yes, civilizations. The Pantheon is also known as the Gods' civilization, while the Abyss's formal name is the Abyssal Demon civilization," Ulysses explained, adding, "Your current great world, in world clusters, is referred to as a seed of civilization.
If a willing god-king were to venture into the astral realm to expand territories, your current world could also become a civilization."
Richard noted this information and asked:
"How does your Gods' civilization classify power levels?"
"In our classification, from lowest to highest, we have powerless mortals, professionals, legends, epics, demigods, gods, advanced gods, chief deities, and the greatest, god-kings."
Comparing this to the wizarding world's power levels, Richard surmised that professionals were akin to wizard apprentices, legends, epics, and demigods aligned with first, second, and third-circle wizards, gods, advanced gods, and chief deities with fourth, fifth, and sixth-circle great wizards, and god-kings with Truth Wizards.
"How many god-kings does your Pantheon have?"
"There are three god-kings," Ulysses said with a hint of pride.
Typically, a single god-king could establish a civilization. A civilization like the Gods' with three god-kings was formidable among neighboring world clusters.
"Then that's all."
Richard suddenly smiled, his projection vanishing from the soul space.
The wizarding world had five Truth Wizards, so even if the Gods' civilization attacked, the wizarding world, or rather the wizarding civilization, held the upper hand.
Exiting the soul space, Richard found himself encased in amber.
With a slight effort, the amber cracked, falling away in pieces.
Richard moved his body slightly, finding that despite his physique reaching 50 due to the ascension's feedback effect, he felt no discomfort.
It seemed his body had adapted to the sudden increase in physical strength.
"How long did I stay in that space?" Richard wondered, surprised.
Before he could ponder further, the amber fragments on the ground turned into viscous liquid, absorbed by the floor, as a white light appeared beneath him.
When the light vanished, he was back in the steel hall where he had ascended to wizardry.
"Congratulations."
A voice came from behind Richard. Turning, he saw the same staff wizard who had marked him earlier, still in the same spot, as if little time had passed.
"Apprentice Richard, you took twelve years for this ascension. I should now address you as Wizard Richard."
The staff wizard handed Richard a magic pouch.
"This is a benefit package for new wizards from the Tower of Truth. It includes a hundred-year free usage period on the residential layer, fifty magic essences, an alchemy school wizard robe, and a map of the Tower of Truth."
With that, the staff wizard extended his hand to Richard.
"Welcome to the world of wizards."
