Wizard Lord:I can Extract Anything

Chapter 97: Chapter 97: The Wizarding World

After the apprentice war ended, Richard's life began to change. Having secured the qualification to advance to a wizard ahead of time, he no longer buried himself in studies at the academy. Instead, he took Jolord's advice and went out to explore.

The Black Tower Wizard Academy was located on the edge of the wizard continent, near the island chain of the Ring Continent. Richard's homeland, the Kingdom of Plantagenet, was situated on one of the larger islands in this chain.

There were several such kingdoms throughout the island chain.

Richard rented a large ship and traveled back and forth among these islands, experiencing the wizarding world's landscape firsthand.

Most of the islands' countries were in a feudal state, with lords and kings waging wars against each other. Richard spent a year traveling among them, witnessing many tales of joy and sorrow.

A year later, Richard set sail for the open sea. Although islands were sparse there, the sea was filled with wondrous sights, far more captivating than human conflicts.

In the open sea, he saw massive whales surfacing, spouting water streams hundreds of meters high, and sharks as large as ships swimming tirelessly day and night. These sharks swam their entire lives, only stopping upon death. Schools of silver flying fish leaped out of the water, like the sea's birds, migrating with ocean currents each year. Waves of bioluminescent krill moved beneath the surface, resembling sea fireflies at night...

These wonders stirred a multitude of emotions within Richard, compelling him to study them—not for power or gain, but simply out of a desire to uncover their mysteries and enjoy the process of exploration.

Richard spent two years at sea, during which his mindset was transformed. He stopped obsessing over the goals of his research and began to relish the journey of discovery itself.

The education at the Black Wizard Academy often trapped wizards in a cycle of seeking power through research. However, for a wizard, power is merely a byproduct; the knowledge uncovered is the true treasure.

After two years, Richard returned to land and began traveling through the cities under the academy's jurisdiction.

The Black Tower Wizard Academy managed its cities in two extremes: either meticulously nurturing them or leaving them to fend for themselves.

Cities like Gale City, which Richard had visited before, were highly developed, with citizens receiving quality education. In contrast, his homeland, the Kingdom of Plantagenet, still practiced feudal lordship, with its people remaining largely ignorant.

Observing these well-developed cities, Richard noticed they were strategically located along trade routes, serving as stops for the wizarding guilds' airships.

These airships, during long-distance transport, always made stops for rest.

And these well-developed cities happened to be positioned at these stops.

"It seems wizarding guilds play a crucial role in the wizarding world," Richard mused, watching airships taking off and landing at the airship port.

He spent two years traveling through the academy's cities, meeting many graduated wizard apprentices.

Some were still conducting research, while others had fully integrated into normal society, enjoying life as part of the elite class.

Graduated apprentices typically worked for the academy for a hundred years before being assigned to a city under its jurisdiction as resident apprentices, monitoring for any rogue wizards.

These apprentices were highly sought after by the upper echelons of mortal society, as their extraordinary powers could resolve many issues for the elite.

However, some apprentices chose not to follow this path, opting instead to join mercenary groups and travel the wizard continent.

As wizard apprentices, these individuals rarely encountered danger in today's wizard continent.

After his travels, Richard returned to the academy. By then, his mental strength had reached the extreme value of 49.9, with no room for further improvement.

Upon returning, Richard immediately sought out Jolord.

"Not bad, you look much better after traveling," Jolord remarked with a cheerful smile.

Richard's demeanor had significantly changed over the years of travel. He appeared more composed and introspective, exuding a mature aura.

"Teacher, I'm ready," Richard announced.

Jolord calculated the time and realized it was about time for the gathering at the Tower of Truth.

"Alright, I have a gathering at the Tower of Truth. We'll set off tomorrow."

That evening, Richard met with Ellie. Although they hadn't seen each other in years, their bond remained strong. Throughout his travels, Richard had sent Ellie letters, sharing the wonders he had witnessed.

"You're going to the Tower of Truth to advance to wizardry, right?" Ellie asked softly, lying in Richard's arms.

"Yes. My mental strength has reached extreme apprentice level, and the teacher happens to be going to the Tower of Truth, so it's convenient."

"I heard advancing to wizardry is quite dangerous."

"A thirty percent failure rate," Richard replied nonchalantly.

Ellie suddenly sat up, turning to face Richard with a serious expression:

"No failing, Richard. I'm counting on spending ten thousand years with you."

Richard smiled:

"I'll succeed."

...

The next day, Jolord and Richard boarded an airship.

"Teacher, do wizards use airships too?" Richard asked, puzzled.

"Generally, wizards don't need to," Jolord said, entering their cabin and closing the door. "But with you, it's different. Flying to the Tower of Truth would cost us at least a thousand magic stones, plus we'd have to rough it."

He patted the cabin's large bed.

"With an airship, there's no roughing it, it costs only a few hundred magic stones, and we don't have to fly ourselves. We'll change airships twice, and you'll get to see a real wizard city along the way.

No matter how you look at it, it's a good deal."

Richard was left speechless, settling into a chair to study runes.

The Rune of Dark Water given to him by the Frostwind Great Wizard had been a focus of his research for years, yielding some insights.

The Rune of Dark Water differed from the runes Richard usually encountered. It was a rare rune, each akin to a natural spell.

The Rune of Dark Water, when activated with magic, generated a black liquid with light absorption and strong corrosive properties.

Richard's tests revealed this liquid to be a variant of the water element, capable of annihilation reactions.

Attempting annihilation reactions with ordinary fire elements produced surprising results.

The light-absorbing property of the Rune of Dark Water partially absorbed the light from the annihilation reaction, enhancing the spell's core energy level.

This discovery delighted Richard.

He had an idea: if he could find another fire-element rune with similar light-absorbing properties, he might significantly boost the power of the Annihilation Realm spell.

However, rare runes were treasures to any wizard, and acquiring one wouldn't be easy.

Richard prepared himself for a long search.

After a month on the airship, Jolord finally disembarked.

Upon stepping out, Richard was stunned by the sight before him.

"Kid, never seen anything like it, huh?" Jolord said, amused by Richard's reaction.

In front of Richard was an enormous airship port, with hundreds of airships taking off and landing.

Beyond this, a variety of unique structures clustered together, forming a fantastical city dominated by wizard towers.

In this city, alchemical vehicles shared roads with horse-drawn carriages, and people of all kinds roamed the streets without a hint of surprise. Between the wizard towers, streaks of light darted about, revealing wizard apprentices on enchanted mounts upon closer inspection.

Alchemical workshop chimneys belched black smoke, with scorching steam coursing through thick pipes into the underground boilers, while across the street, a tree-top tavern opened its doors for business.

Orcs, dwarves, and various individuals transformed by bloodline fusion, whether driving alchemical vehicles, riding horses, or even flying on enchanted brooms, gathered at this tavern without reservation.

On the streets, peculiar-looking creatures from other realms ate or cleaned, maintaining the roads.

In the sky, small airships carried banners advertising a newly opened alchemy shop.

This city was a collage of fantastical elements, infused with steampunk and modern touches, creating a dazzling spectacle.

"The white wizard academy differs from ours. They like to integrate the academy with the city, directly managing every aspect," Jolord explained. "What you're seeing is the city of Golden Dragon Wizard Academy, which is also the academy itself."

"This... is quite fantastical," Richard murmured.

However, he quickly came to terms with it, realizing that in a world engaged in interdimensional conquest, such fantastical elements were normal.

"Shall we explore?" Richard asked.

"Explore?" Jolord shook his head. "We only have two hours before catching three more airships to reach the Tower of Truth before the ascension period ends this year."

"Ascension period?" Richard asked, confused.

"You didn't think you could just visit the Tower of Truth anytime for ascension, did you?" Jolord teased. "From July to September each year is the ascension period. Miss it, and you'll have to wait until next year."

"Does this mean ascending to wizardry requires using the Tower of Truth's facilities?" Richard inquired.

"Facilities?" Jolord shook his head. "Any academy can gather the necessary items for the ceremony, but the most crucial component is only found at the Tower of Truth."

"And what's that?"

"The Source of the Wizarding World."
