"Doctor, look at what I brought you!"
As soon as Link entered Singed's laboratory, he saw Singed engrossed in reviewing experimental logs.
"Oh, you're here." Singed responded without looking up. Link approached him with the blue sunflowers, casually placing them on the table while picking up a page from the experimental log to read.
It was Vander's transformation log.
"You can spend some more time with Orianna, Doctor." Link sat down at the workbench, propping himself up with his hands. Singed's focus remained solely on the experimental logs. "When I was your age, I already understood that to earn a steady living, one must work hard."
"Besides," Singed lifted his head to meet Link's gaze, "you came to see me because of him."
Singed tilted his head toward Vander. Link shrugged. "Alright, but before that, take a look at this."
Link handed Singed the leaf sample he had obtained from Ekko. Upon receiving the leaf, Singed noticed the abnormal blue veins and raised an eyebrow. "What is this—"
"Hextech energy erosion," Link explained. "It's a sample taken from a large tree in Zaun."
"This indicates that Hextech has already infiltrated Zaun's drinking water and soil." Singed examined the leaf closely under the overhead light. "Beautiful!"
"I can understand your perspective, Doctor," Link tapped the table. "But those who provided the sample won't feel the same; they'll only see Hextech erosion as a threat to their very survival."
"To achieve evolution, sacrifices must be made. That's an inevitable truth." Singed set down the leaf. "What do you want me to do?"
"Formulate a potion to counteract this energy erosion."
"That's no small task."
"I know; I'll come help you shortly."
"What do you plan to do?" Singed looked at Link with curiosity. Link shrugged. "I have some new ideas I want to try out. If you need me, just come to my workshop; you know where it is!"
Link turned to leave. As he reached the door, he leaned against the frame and pointed at the blue sunflowers, saying to Singed, "By the way, Doctor, congratulations on your new place!"
"Oh—" Singed turned his attention to the blue sunflowers. As the leaf slipped from his fingers, he hurried over and picked up the blue sunflowers. "These are truly beautiful!"
"Link, you—" Singed wanted to ask Link something but realized he had already vanished.
Gently placing the flowers down, he sighed and shook his head. "This kid really knows how to manipulate people!"
"Well, I suppose I'm just destined for this kind of labor!"
Singed picked up the leaf sample he had discarded earlier but his gaze fell upon Vander hanging suspended.
"Hmm, perhaps I can try something new."
.....
When Link returned to his workshop, Janna was nowhere to be found.
Assuming she had gone out for inspiration, Link didn't think much of it and quickly approached his workbench to pull out a new blueprint.
"Electric energy—a revolutionary source of power!"
Link began sketching designs on the blank blueprint; his knowledge from his past life combined with skills from this life gave rise to a new type of engine that merged clockwork technology.
"It not only frees humanity from primitive fossil fuel usage but also allows for conversion among various energy types."
"Mechanical energy, thermal energy, light energy—all can be transformed through electric energy!"
"Clockwork technology has the characteristic of converting small kinetic energy into powerful kinetic energy; when paired with electromagnetic reactions, then a clockwork electric engine can be born."
Link gazed at the cylindrical clockwork electric engine on his design and smiled faintly.
"With this device, my exoskeleton can be upgraded once again."
"Well, crafting kinetic armor might take too long; I might as well go for an upgrade across versions instead."
Link glanced at the blueprint before turning toward the furnace.
The next morning, Janna returned riding on a gust of wind.
With her eyes sparkling brightly, she seemed eager to share whatever she had overheard during her outings as soon as she got back to the workshop.
However, she found Link standing at his workbench grinning foolishly at a horizontally positioned glass cylinder.
"What are you laughing about?" Janna perched atop Link's head and scratched at his slightly greasy scalp with her claws. "Hey, when was the last time you washed your hair or bathed?"
"That doesn't matter right now; experiments are more important!" Link exclaimed as he grabbed Janna and placed her on the workbench. "Come look at my new invention—the clockwork electric engine!"
"What?"
Janna jumped onto the engine and began poking at the glass cover with her claws.
Inside the glass cover was a spiral structure resembling an inverted "8," wrapped in coils of copper wire with a bearing running through it and embedded with powerful magnets.
"The clockwork electric engine—a special engine capable of generating electric energy," Link briefly explained to Janna before adding: "Help me call Dr. Levick."
"Hey! I just got back!"
"Please, Janna." As Link earnestly requested her help, Janna raised her head high. "You really can't function without me!"
"Wait here; I'll go get him."
Janna transformed into wind and left swiftly before returning shortly after with Singed in tow.
Dr. Reveck soon arrived at Link's workshop and upon seeing Janna was left momentarily speechless in shock.
"Link... she—"
"Doctor! Let me introduce you!" Link said as he introduced Janna to Reveck. "The embodiment of winds of change—the guardian deity of Zaun—Goddess Janna who masters storms and healing!"
"My goodness! I always thought that was just a legend." Singed hurried toward Janna while Link chuckled: "Sorry Doctor; yesterday was so hectic that I didn't have time to introduce her."
"No no no! It's nothing," Singed waved quickly while his gaze fell upon the clockwork electric engine. "Is this what you wanted Janna to call me about?"
"Exactly," Link stepped aside so that Singed could see better. "This is a third type of energy engine distinct from alchemical engines and Hextech energy—the clockwork electric engine!"
"It utilizes mechanical work through clockwork power valves while employing electromagnetic induction principles to convert mechanical energy into electrical energy."
As Link spoke, he raised his hand and activated the clockwork power valve on the right side of the engine. Once activated, the internal bearing began rotating slowly; as its speed increased little by little, sparks began jumping between the inverted "8" spiral structure and bearing with crackling sounds.
Link adjusted the power valve's output until kinetic energy reached its limit.
In an instant, bright blue sparks transformed into dazzling electrical currents within the glass cover.
As electrical currents surged inside while simultaneously causing buzzing sounds from an engine connection port installed on the left side of the engine began whirring.
For a moment, brilliant electrical light illuminated both their faces.
Singed leaned closer toward the engine with slightly raised eyebrows. "This is truly an impressive invention! I've never seen anyone create such a simple yet efficient energy engine!"
"It's not bad," Link crossed his arms over his chest with a smug smile.
Janna curiously approached the front of the engine and touched its glass cover with her wings.
"Ooh! The cover feels warm."
"Warm?" Link blinked in surprise as he reached out to touch it himself only for his eyelids to twitch in reaction.
Immediately halting power valve activation while watching as internal bearings gradually slowed down their rotation speed brought him some relief.
Thankfully Janna had reminded him in time; otherwise it would've exploded!
"How strange—I thought I set safety valves!" As Link checked his power valve, Singed observed for a moment before tapping on the glass cover with his finger.
"Your design is exquisite; however, it seems that your choice of casing material is rather poor."
"Hmm... true enough."
Link nodded slightly; in his haste he hadn't given much thought regarding casing materials.
"I have a formula for high-strength glass; I'll get that for you later. Also, I've prepared your potion—you can take it whenever you're ready."
"As for Vander's humanity awakening experiment—I have some ideas brewing too."
"Oh?" Link raised an eyebrow in surprise. "Did you manage that so quickly?"
Singed chuckled lightly: "It's merely because some beautiful things sparked my inspiration."
Link's eyelids twitched; did those two pots of blue sunflowers really have such an impact on Singed?
