Homelander let out a dry chuckle before exchanging a knowing glance with Clark. In almost perfect sync, both men unleashed beams of searing energy—golden and crimson—from their eyes.
Down below, General Archer squinted up at the sky. The two beams collided midway, erupting in a thunderous explosion. A wave of invisible energy rippled outward like an unrelenting tide, shaking the earth itself.
The ground trembled violently. Cracks snaked across the asphalt, and clouds of sand erupted from the desert as the shockwaves spread.
Both combatants ceased their beams, studying each other momentarily before leaning forward and launching themselves at supersonic speed.
A sonic boom echoed through the sky as their fists collided. The impact sent shockwaves rippling through the air, erasing nearby clouds as if they'd been wiped clean from the heavens.
Clark frowned as his fist recoiled. His opponent's punch had an odd quality—after the initial impact, a secondary force exploded outward, pushing him back unexpectedly.
A delayed shockwave?
Seizing the moment of surprise, Homelander darted forward, driving his knee viciously into Clark's face.
Clark's head snapped back, but he recovered instantly, retaliating with a powerful punch to Homelander's cheek.
Homelander's head turned slightly from the blow, but he quickly straightened and grinned, glancing at Clark's fist with mock amusement.
Clark narrowed his eyes, refusing to show his irritation. He slid forward with supernatural grace, aiming another strike.
Homelander sidestepped the blow and grabbed Clark's iconic red cape. With a smirk, he spun Clark around in a dizzying whirlwind before hurling him like a missile across the desert.
The blue-and-red streak disappeared into the distance, skidding across the ground and kicking up a massive cloud of dust.
Clark barely paused to catch his breath. With a determined huff, he soared back toward Homelander at breakneck speed.
But as he approached, Homelander smirked and pointed downward.
Before Clark could react, golden beams of heat vision shot toward the ground, aimed at the military convoy below.
Clark veered sharply downward, intercepting the attack just in time. His body absorbed the beams, shielding the soldiers below from harm.
Homelander didn't let the opportunity slip. He darted behind Clark and delivered a flying kick, sending the Man of Steel crashing into the sand like a meteor.
BOOM!
Sand erupted in a cascading "waterfall" as Clark slammed into the desert. Before the debris could settle, Clark burst free, his crimson gaze locked on Homelander.
Clark retaliated with his own heat vision, firing a continuous beam that sliced through the air like a scythe.
Homelander leaned back, letting the beam graze over him harmlessly, before diving into the convoy below.
Clark cut off his attack abruptly. He couldn't risk harming the soldiers. With a grimace, he followed Homelander down.
Just as Clark neared the convoy, two golden beams of light streaked toward him from the vehicles below.
Clark dodged left, expecting the beams to miss.
But to his astonishment, the golden lasers curved mid-flight, looping around to pursue him like heat-seeking missiles.
"Impossible!" Clark muttered, eyes wide. His lasers can bend?
He twisted and turned in the air, but the beams followed relentlessly. With no other choice, Clark faced the attack head-on, firing his red heat vision to meet the golden rays.
The beams collided, but instead of neutralizing, the golden lasers expanded suddenly, erupting in a massive explosion.
BOOM!
The detonation lit up the sky, a fiery ball of orange flames growing rapidly until it resembled a second sun.
On the ground, General Archer's hat flew off in the blistering wind. He stared up in awe, his mouth agape as the inferno painted the sky.

Hovering amidst the chaos, Homelander scanned the battlefield for signs of Clark.
He smirked. "I know that didn't kill him."
His sharp ears twitched. Turning toward the desert below, he spotted twin crimson beams slicing through the sand.
Clark burst from the ground like a torpedo, slamming into Homelander and propelling him upward.
The two shot into the sky, locked in a high-speed grapple.
Homelander grinned, placing a firm hand on Clark's shoulder. With a sudden burst of strength, he shoved Clark away, creating space between them.
Both men hovered in midair, studying one another.
"You're tougher than I expected," Homelander said with a grin.
Clark frowned, his fists clenching tightly. "It's like fighting a mirror."
Clark's attacks had all failed to land a decisive blow. This opponent matched him in strength and speed while also possessing abilities Clark lacked.
"It's not going to be easy to settle this quickly," Clark muttered under his breath.
He steeled himself, preparing to launch another attack—when suddenly, his head snapped to the side.
His expression darkened. Without a word, he turned and shot off into the distance at superhuman speed.
Homelander raised an eyebrow, confused. "What's got him in such a hurry?"
He glanced down at the military convoy, a sly grin spreading across his face.

Metropolis, Subway Station
"Let me go! What are you doing?"
Lois Lane struggled furiously as two burly men dragged her through the subway station.
"Quiet, lady," one of the men growled. "This'll be over quick if you just cooperate."
A third man, disguised as a janitor, approached with a rag soaked in anesthetic.
"Sorry, Miss Lane. Nothing personal."
As he reached for her, the ceiling above them exploded. Debris rained down as a burst of sunlight illuminated the station.
A red cape fluttered in the descending dust.
Superman stood tall, his eyes blazing with righteous fury.
"I'll only say this once. Let her go."
