Bound by Desire: Lust

Chapter 2: Chapter Two

 UNCHARTED PATHS

It's a dream.

She looked around and noticed it was morning already. Though curtains weren't slid open but the chirping of birds and voices of passersby helped in indicating that. She gently stepped down from the bed and started her usual morning routine. She was able to take breakfast. Approached her reading table and slid her PC open. She turned into a job hunter overnight. Dropping emails on different platforms. She would sleep off on her desk when she's tired with no one to talk to.

Days passed and no single appointment came through. She surfed the net and saw a work vacancy as a waitress but she was earning more as a department manager. She decided to give it a try and that same day she received an email on her interview date. She felt a bit sad about it but she got to give it a try, at least to sustain her till she gets a better job.

On the day of the interview, she dressed on an ash corporate trousers with a white shirt, bow tie and a black heel to match. She had her interview by 10 in the morning but couldn't risk being late. She boarded a taxi to the resort. She was amazed on what she saw. A huge building made of glass, chocolate brown floor tiles, securities dressed uniformly, waiters and waitress serving coffees and cookies while maintaining a smile. She loved the environment but she knew it wasn't the actual job she prayed for. She approached the security man and asked where the interview is been taken place. He directed her and she stepped gently to the room.

She could see people who were also waiting to be called in for their interview and she joined them. She adjusted her dress to fit into her skin before taking a seat. She had sat their for minutes staring at people who go in and out of the room. She eagerly waited to hear her name.

" Alexandra Thompson" A lady called holding a piece of paper.

" I'm here" She stood and approached the woman who led her into the room.

She met four figures and a chair facing them so she had to stand beside the chair before being asked to sit. She was eager to hear the questions though she didn't prepare any answer before hand but she believed she was so good during interviews.

" We have just three questions for you"

"Tell us about yourself."

"I'm an enthusiastic and hardworking individual with a passion for providing excellent customer service. I enjoy working in fast-paced environments, and I have experience balancing multiple tasks efficiently while maintaining a positive attitude. I thrive on interacting with people and ensuring their dining experience is enjoyable."

She could notice she wasn't nervous a bit.

"why do you want to work here?" Another question was thrown at her.

"I admire your restaurant's focus on quality and customer satisfaction. I'm impressed by the friendly atmosphere and reputation for great food. I would love to contribute to that by bringing my energy and customer service skills to the team."

As she was still ending her statement. A boldly-faced man threw her another question, his piercing gaze demanding an immediate response.

" Why should we hire you?"

She turned toward the direction of the voice, locking eyes with him. His grey irises reflected a clear eagerness to hear her response.

"I have the enthusiasm and customer service skills to excel in this role. I'm passionate about creating great dining experiences and am confident I can contribute to the success of your restaurant."

"Okay. Before we wrap up, do you have any final questions for us about the role or resort?"

" No I don't . I've heard all I want to about the resort. Thank you"

" It was a pleasure speaking with you today. Thank you for your time and interest in joining our team. We'll be in touch soon. Have a great day"

" Thank you. I look forward to hearing from you soon."

As she stood and left the resort, she felt at ease knowing she did well on her interview. Her only thought at that moment was how to drink herself to stupor. She was so tired of life that she thought of nobody but herself. She took three cans of beer from a store nearby and on getting home, she dropped her bag and drank like a tasty dog. She slept off on her sitting room couch still putting on her corporate wears.

Cellphone rings.

Alex jumps up from the couch like she had a bad dream. Looking so haggard with noticeable eye bags. She picked up her phone to know the caller. It's her so called best friend that has never checked up on her for months. She struggled with her thumb before she tapped the answer button.

" Hello Lexa, It's been awhile"

" Hello Mia."

" I know you might have called and didn't get to me."

" I didn't"

"Okay… I just came into town. Let's hang out"

At the hearing of that she stood up from the couch. Eager to leave the house.

" Where are we meeting?" she said trying to comport herself.

" Let's meet at Eclipse lounge. By 18:00"

" Alright. See you later"

Phone beeps.

The call seemed to have lightened her mood so she arranged the sitting room and rushed to her bedroom to pick out clothes.

At exactly 17:55, she was prepared to leave the house. She wore a black satin wrapped dress with tiny hands, a silver purse, silver shoes, silver earrings and necklace to match. She dressed like she was going on a date but nevertheless, some hang outs might turn into one. As she boarded a taxi to the lounge, she could see Mia seated with leg crossed, waiting for her to arrive. The sight of Alex made Mia's jaw drop.

As Alex was approaching Mia, she slipped without control. Leaving one leg on the air with eyes closed. She didn't feel herself land on the floor but rather a strong grip around her waist.
