Hunter x Hunter : Germain Joins The Hunt

Chapter 229: Chapter 217.2 : Lanterns!!

At the same time, as Germain silently thinks of the word "Great Ones" and contemplates its existence, it is as though a key has turned in a lock, triggering a mechanism at the top of a tower.

It rumbles and shakes, disrupting everyone's thoughts. Then, they see purple patterns appear on the once ordinary floor.

The patterns, like veins, converge at the center of the floor, slowly gathering into something, slowly emerging.

It was a massive lantern.

The group looked at the appearance of this giant lantern, first surprised, then realizing it wasn't so unexpected. It felt more like the boot finally dropped onto the muddy ground, like something inevitable finally happened.

Ging rubbed his stubbled chin and muttered, "I knew it. Coming with Germain... something strange was bound to happen. This is just our luck."

He said this because of Germain's unique Nen ability, especially his "Teleporting Lantern," which clearly pointed toward the depths of the Dark Continent.

Don Freecss had been here many times before, but never had anything like this happened.

It was impossible not to make the connection.

After a while, Germain said, "Step back. I'll go check it out."

Germain relaxed and instructed the others to move back to the stairs. If things went wrong, they could quickly escape.

He then walked slowly toward the lantern.

Of course, Germain was only giving the others a choice. Whether they were willing to decisively abandon him in case of danger was another matter entirely.

Germain reached out, and his fingertips brushed the cold lantern's pillar.

In an instant, purple light erupted, growing brighter and brighter until it forced everyone to close their eyes.

Buzz—

The purple glow quickly filled the entire top floor of the tower, shining through the four windows and illuminating the four directions of the "Ancient Labyrinth City."

If it had been night, the sight of the four beams cutting through the darkness would have been even more striking, turning the tower into something like a lighthouse.

Germain closed his eyes to avoid the intense light.

In theory, he shouldn't have seen anything other than the light and darkness, but instead, he saw something else.

He saw seventeen glowing lanterns, as if stars were swirling around him.

Six of them, he recognized.

"The Lanterns of the Limeiro Castle Dungeon."

"Lanterns of the Dried River Valley"

"Lanterns of the Muddy Land"

"Lanterns of the Spider Valley Bottom"

"Lanterns at the Entrance of the Ancient Labyrinth"

"Lanterns of the Unlit Point"

There were five more Lanternss that he had not known about before. Now that he saw them, he understood where they pointed.

"Lanterns of the Labyrinth"

"Lanterns of the Wilderness"

"Lanterns of the Mountains"

"Lanterns of the Swamps"

"Lanterns of the Bay"

In addition, there were six completely dark Lanterns, with no indication of where they pointed or any hint at all.

Besides these, the six "Teleportation Lanterns" that Germain owned stood alone, separate from the rest.

The remaining eleven "Teleportation Lanterns" were connected by a purple light, showing their special and interconnected nature.

When the bright purple light finally faded, Ging, Bisky, and Shizuku opened their eyes to see Germain standing at the center of the top floor of the tower, with Lanterns at his feet.

The Lanterns emitted a faint glow. Four skinny "Messenger Ghosts" clung to the Lanterns base, strangely silent. They just stared blankly at the group with lifeless eyes, not making a sound.

Germain opened his eyes.

The other three confirmed there was no danger and quickly approached. Now, they weren't as concerned about Germain's dream.

Instead, they focused on the sudden appearance of the Lanterns before them.

"What's going on?" Ging asked excitedly, pointing at the Lanterns beneath their feet.

Germain glanced at him and replied, "This is a 'Lantern' that can connect with my 'Teleportation Lantern.' In other words, it allows us to freely travel between these 'Teleportation Lanterns.'"

"Earlier, in the light, I saw a total of eleven special 'Teleportation Lanterns.' They are all connected, and one of them is the one right in front of us—the 'Labyrinth Lantern.'"

Germain briefly described the illusion he saw, including the five known lanterns and the six dark lanterns, which made everyone tense up.

Ging thought for a moment, then looked at Germain. "Do you think the same as I do?"

Germain smiled and asked, "Do you want us to each write the answer in our palms and then reveal them to each other at the same time?"

"There's no need for that," Ging said. In this world, there are comics like Dragon Ball based on Journey to the West, as well as other famous works. "They definitely point to 'all disasters.'"

"I would say they point to 'all hope,'" Germain preferred this more optimistic interpretation.

"Huh?" Bisky understood most of it, but still didn't fully get it. "What are you two talking about? Could you explain it to me and Shizuku?"

Actually, Shizuku wasn't that concerned. She was more like a player focused on completing tasks and objectives in an open-world game and wasn't too interested in the background story.

Ging continued, "I guess these 'Teleportation Lanterns' are probably scattered along the shores of Mobius Lake."

"Don Freecss might have missed some of them, or perhaps included them in The New World Chronicles: West Edition. We can only be sure after finding West Edition or him."

He was very confident that his ancestor was still alive.

Germain nodded.

"I mostly agree with your idea... Besides that, I think the new 'eleven Teleportation Lanterns,' even though they are connected to my 'Teleportation Lantern,' should still be unique."

Gon turned his head to look at Germain and asked, "What do you mean by 'unique'?"

"I don't know. We'll find out when we try..."
