Chapter 25: Chapter 25: Even the Wisest May Make Mistakes
However, to leave the Arctic, they'd still have to rely on this scoundrel's faction to send a plane for pickup.
So, even though Pietro was reluctant, he could only obediently adjust the angle of the communicator, pointing it toward a hole in the ice.
He pointed at the hole and gestured with his chin. "Look! Found the crash site of that last century relic—the place where Captain America crashed!"
"What?" Hearing this news, Carl suddenly sat up straight.
They found Captain America?!
He had sent Pietro to find Captain America's crash site, but to be honest, he hadn't had much hope.
After all, the Arctic was vast. Without an exact location, how could one easily find it?
The super-soldier serum of Captain America wasn't much use to Carl either.
He just wanted to separate Pietro from Wanda, to have a chance to act.
He hadn't expected Pietro to get so lucky, or rather, the kid's suffering over the past six months hadn't been in vain. His persistent effort paid off, and he really found Captain America.
Pietro, seeing Carl's expression of disbelief, furrowed his brows angrily and asked, "You really didn't think I'd find him, did you? I knew it! You just sent me to the Arctic to get me out of the way so you could make your move on Wanda, didn't you? You really deserve to die!"
Pietro couldn't help but start muttering angrily.
Carl, however, directly ignored Pietro's complaints and said excitedly, "I'll send a transport plane to pick you up right away, and we'll bring the first superhero of this world back!"
After a pause, he added, "By the way, you didn't run into anyone else, did you?"
Pietro casually replied, "Actually, this crash site was only discovered after an icebreaker ship crashed into an iceberg. But I threw the icebreaker crew into the sea to feed the fish, so don't worry about anyone else finding out."
Hearing that Pietro had cleaned up the mess, Carl felt relieved and didn't hesitate to cut off the satellite video, not even bothering to say goodbye.
Seeing how unreliable Carl was, just hanging up without a word, Pietro muttered, "How rude!"
He felt angry inside but knew there was nothing he could do in this isolated area of the Arctic, far from Carl's reach. He could only crane his neck and wait patiently for the transport plane to arrive.
It had been over five hours.
The Arctic was currently experiencing a period of continuous daylight, with the sun hanging overhead for 24 hours, making it easy to lose track of time.
As Pietro paced back and forth, waiting for the plane to arrive, it felt like the hours dragged on forever, and he was getting restless.
Finally, a "whirring" sound of helicopter blades drew closer.
An Osprey tilt-rotor transport plane slowly landed on the snow.
Pietro, eager to get out of there, quickly walked toward the plane, with the expedition members behind him carrying a two-meter-long foam-insulated box, which contained the frozen Captain America.
Other soldiers followed, holding a red-and-white vibranium shield, and climbed aboard the plane.
"Let's take off quickly. I can't wait to leave this damn place!" Pietro urged as soon as the last soldier boarded.
Soon, the Osprey took off again, heading southwest.
After the transport plane departed, heavy snow began to fall from the sky again.
The hole in the ice where the crash had occurred gradually got covered with snow. The icebreaker remained in place, surrounded by an eerie silence.
Clearly, even the wisest may make mistakes.
Pietro had left the scene without cleaning up.
Perhaps it was his rush to return to the modern world that caused him to forget such an important detail.
Several hours later, an icebreaker slowly approached, and an international emergency rescue signal was sent out.
"Quick, send people to check out that ship. They claim they collided with an iceberg and the hull is severely damaged, needing rescue."
"Oh my god! There are so many bloodstains!"
"There are a few bodies floating in the water!"
"Why is there an old-fashioned propeller plane from the last century here?"
This bizarre murder case quickly made its way to the S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters in New York, landing on Director Nick Fury's desk.

After five hours of long-distance flight, an Osprey tilt-rotor transport plane landed at Sokovia's Umbrella Headquarters military airport.
Carl and Wanda had been waiting for a long time.
"Hey, I'm back!" Pietro said as he stepped out of the plane's rear hatch, and upon seeing Wanda, he couldn't help but rush over and tightly hug her, tears welling up in his eyes.
"You must have had a tough time, Pietro," Wanda said, also emotional after seeing her brother for the first time in half a year.
At that moment, Pietro seemed to remember something. He walked over to the side and angrily punched Carl.
"It's all this scumbag's fault! He tricked me into going to that hellhole in the Arctic! I almost died from the cold there!"
Carl didn't dodge the punch, letting the kid vent. Who knew what else he might do if he didn't let him blow off some steam? He rubbed his aching chest, silent.
Wanda, seeing her man being punched, couldn't help but step in to stop it. "Hey, hey, hey, you can't hit your brother-in-law like that!"
Pietro looked at Wanda in shock, pointing at Carl in disbelief. "Brother-in-law? Him? Wanda, you've really been fooled."
Carl stepped in, trying to act as the peacemaker. "Alright, you don't have to worry about our relationship, Pietro. Let me see that old popsicle you brought back."
Pietro couldn't help but retort, "I'm Wanda's brother, and I have every right to care about her love life!"
Wanda interrupted their argument, showing no hesitation as she said, "I'm the older sister, but that's not important now. Since you're back, Pietro, let me take you out for a good meal. Don't worry about Carl, just leave him here alone."
Seeing that Pietro and Carl were about to start arguing again, Wanda, being understanding, quickly pulled her brother away to avoid a fight.
Carl didn't continue to tease his brother-in-law. After watching Wanda and Pietro leave, he turned his attention to the foam-insulated box being carried off the transport plane by soldiers.
Carl stared intently at the box, deep in thought.
Moments later, the frozen Captain America was quickly moved to the biological lab at the Hive Base.
Once the ice was removed, Umbrella scientists hurriedly took several fresh blood samples.
After gathering enough samples, the sleeping Captain America was moved to another lab to continue being experimented on as a lab rat.
Three days later.
Carl furrowed his brows, staring at Captain America still lying on the experimental table, silent.
For the past few days, he had tried to control Captain America through the Red Widow Controller or by implanting chips into his brain, but so far, none of the methods had produced satisfactory results.
