''Hancock's wound had already scabbed over.''
The recovery ability of Zoan-type Devil Fruit users was indeed terrifying. Naturally, this was also because Salome's snake bite had only left a small puncture. After all, if Zoan users could heal from any injury instantly, Marco's 'Phoenix' would lose its legendary appeal.
Hancock gathered some of the blood from her wound and smeared it on the edges of the petrified robes of the weather scientists.
The tiny blood snakes seeped into the stone, instantly restoring the petrified figures back to living, breathing people, with their full color returned.
"Does this count as a material transformation ability?"
Watching the petrification be undone, Liam found the ability increasingly terrifying the more he thought about it.
Regarding his own experience of being petrified, Liam had no recollection at all. It was as if the time he was turned to stone had been 'deleted' from his mind. No, it wasn't that his thoughts were erased— it was that they had stopped entirely.
Liam was certain his brain had also been petrified during that time, which explained the complete halt in all mental activity.
In other words, Medusa's Mythical Zoan Fruit— or even the Love-Love Fruit, for that matter— didn't just superficially petrify people. These abilities completely turned the body to stone, sealing flesh, blood, organs, and even the brain.
Medusa's eyes could transform living flesh into stone.
Medusa's blood could transform stone back into flesh.
Liam doubted Hancock truly understood the science behind the "material transformation" aspect of this ability.
It was similar to how Robin didn't necessarily grasp how her 'Hana Hana no Mi' (Flower-Flower Fruit) allowed her to grow body parts and relay sensory information.
These abilities weren't based on the users' understanding but rather on the intrinsic properties of the Devil Fruits— essentially, pre-built "technology."
Ever since coming across Dr. Vegapunk's research on Devil Fruits and Lineage Factors, Liam had started viewing Devil Fruits as high-tech products.
When he saw Medusa's petrification ability, he wasn't just impressed by the fruit's power. What astonished him more was the incredible technology behind the creation of such fruits.
What kind of godlike civilization had developed this?
A civilization that had fully mastered the conversion of matter into matter, matter into energy, energy into matter, and energy into energy…
Otherwise, how could they explain petrification? How could they conjure flowers out of thin air, create entire human bodies, or enable Logia users to achieve so-called "elementalization"?
Hancock finished her task and promptly disappeared, likely to explore the abilities of her newly acquired Devil Fruit.
Sandersonia now rested, smiled and said, "Nee San probably doesn't dare to experiment recklessly on people anymore."
"When she accidentally petrified Giorno earlier…" Robin tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear. After a year of growth, her hair was long again. "Hancock must have panicked. If there hadn't been a way to undo the petrification…"
Haredas and the other elderly scientists stroked their mustaches and muttered, "Doesn't seem like the kind of girl to be so thoughtful and considerate…"
Marigold glanced at Liam, looking both shy and eager. "Giorno, how about a sparring match?"
The girls of Kuja were all warriors. Even the youngest sister had a heart that longed for strength.
Liam chuckled. "Alright, let's see just how strong the Snake of Strength really is!"
"Over there!" Marigold called out sharply. Her lower half transformed into a golden-scaled serpent, and she darted over to an open space on the Island Cloud.
Liam strolled over leisurely. Sandersonia, with her jade-green snake wings unfurled, hovered nearby, clearly eager for a turn after her younger sister's attempt.
"Let's go watch," Snake Princess said with a gentle smile.
"Sure," Dragon replied, agreeing to her suggestion.
Marigold coiled her golden snake form, her upper body rising tall. Her arms bulged with muscle, and a serious expression settled on her face as fine golden scales emerged around her eyebrows and temples.
"Here I come!"
With a spirited cry, the girl launched herself at Liam like a massive golden python.
Liam stood his ground and calmly raised one hand to block her charge.
''Bang!''
The ground of the Island Cloud behind him seemed to sink slightly from the impact.
"Take this!"
Marigold shouted as layers of golden scales rippled and locked into place like gears, generating waves of overwhelming power that surged into her arms.
Liam flew backward, flipping through the air. As he floated mid-spin, he rubbed his chin and exclaimed in surprise, "That's some serious strength!"
"Wonderful!" Sandersonia clapped her hands in delight.
Snake Princess smiled. "This young man's strength is nothing to scoff at, but Mari has grown much stronger as well!"
"You've fought him before?" Dragon asked casually.
Snake Princess gave a brief account of their earlier encounter.
The mention of the 'Hana Hana no Mi' (Flower-Flower Fruit) made Dragon thoughtful. His gaze shifted toward Kuma, the scientists, and Jolyne Kujo, who were nearby.
Kuma, after glancing at the ongoing sparring match where Giorno skillfully dodged around the golden-scaled Marigold using 'Geppo', noticed the elderly scientists preparing to leave. They were not people with much leisure time; as meteorology enthusiasts, they had an endless array of phenomena to study in this peculiar sea.
Jolyne Kujo followed the scientists and politely asked, "May I take a look at that?"
B.I.B. quietly stood beside Robin.
Robin pointed to the thick book one of the older scientists was holding.
The 'Devil Fruit Encyclopedia'.
"Oh, this? Sure," The old man replied without hesitation, handing the book to her with a smile. "We don't use it much anyway, so take your time with it."
"Thank you," Robin said, accepting the hefty book.
She glanced around to see Liam still sparring with the Boa sisters. Activating her 'Kenbunshoku Haki' (Observation Haki), she quickly confirmed that Liam's ghost was indeed nearby.
She handed the book to the ghostly stand, B.I.B., which immediately began flipping through it at an incredible speed, employing its unique "quantum reading" method.
Robin knew that anything either Liam or his ghost laid eyes on could be recalled perfectly, far beyond mere photographic memory.
After scanning through the book, B.I.B. turned it back around and handed it to Robin.
Robin smiled faintly, found a step made from Island Cloud, and quietly sat down.
The pitch-black stand remained beside her, standing guard like a bodyguard.
Resting the large book on her lap, Robin began reading. Flipping to the table of contents, she wasn't surprised to find the three primary categories of Devil Fruits: 'Logia', 'Paramecia', and 'Zoan'.
Starting with 'Logia', Robin's finger skimmed the index until it stopped on the name of a fruit: 'Hie Hie no Mi' (Ice-Ice Fruit).
"'Capable of transforming any part of the user's body into ice, as well as releasing cold air to freeze anything into ice...'"
The description brought back memories of Saul, the giant who had been frozen solid by a Marine Vice Admiral. Robin fell silent for a moment before turning the page.
The next image depicted a Devil Fruit that looked like a mass of burning flames. Its name beside the picture caught her eye:
''Mera-Mera no Mi' (Flame-Flame Fruit).''
"Capable of transforming any part of the user's body into flames, as well as releasing fire from any part of the body..."
She couldn't help but notice how straightforward the descriptions of 'Logia'-type fruits were. Perhaps it was due to the fruits' inherently direct abilities, or maybe the compiler of the encyclopedia didn't fully understand the extent of each fruit's powers.
Continuing to browse through the 'Logia' section, Robin came across a particularly striking Devil Fruit.
Unlike others, which were covered in spiraling patterns, this fruit's design featured sharp, jagged contours resembling bolts of lightning, giving it a menacing, spiked appearance.
''Goro Goro no Mi' (Thunder-Thunder Fruit).''
What caught her attention, however, was the handwritten note beside its name:
"Skypiea—Birka..."
The addition was clearly made by someone after the book was published.
