The two thief-like men destroyed dozens of surveillance devices and arrived outside the cell holding the leader of the star pirates. This time, instead of directly destroying the monitors, they released some substance into the surveillance equipment, manipulating the video feed to repeat continuously.
According to the Major General’s orders, the star pirate leader’s cell required 24-hour surveillance to prevent any opportunity for suicide.
Now, two zerg soldiers stood guard at the door, each wielding a laser gun.
Even if the entire starship lost its lighting, they remained steadfastly stationed there.
The two men pressed against the wall, with one gesturing in a way that only they could understand towards the zerg soldiers. At that moment, the man on the left took out a scrap shell from his pocket and tossed it into the distance.
The shell hit the ground, making a ‘ding dong’ sound.
The zerg soldier heard the unusual sound and exchanged glances with his companion. “I’ll go check it out.” He pointed the barrel of his laser gun outside the room.
“Be careful. If there’s any trouble, call for me.”
“Okay.”
The zerg’s night vision gave him confidence in catching the culprits in the dark. He opened the door and fired a few shots in the direction of the sound.
The only sound in the corridor was that of his laser gun. He walked forward slowly.
A red shell casing lay at his feet. He observed his surroundings and, after confirming there were no signs of life, picked up the shell.
At that moment, a black cloth was placed over the zergo soldier’s mouth, effectively muffling his shouts. Two men emerged from the darkness, one covering his mouth and the other controlling his gun.
The corridor remained silent.
“Hey, did you find anything?” The other zerg soldier, having waited for a long time without seeing his companion return, called out.
There was no reply.
Sensing something was wrong, his years of military experience kicked in, alerting him to danger.
He walked towards the door, intending to close it before any intruder could enter. At least the bulletproof door could hold until the rescue team arrived.
“Sorry, you’re too late.” A hook pierced the zerg’s hand as he tried to close the door.
Before he could resist, a tall, long-haired alien appeared out of thin air and swiftly severed the arm that was about to send out a distress signal.
“Oh dear, you saw me?” The voice was sweet, but the figure was tall and imposing. The zerg soldier vaguely noticed a bulge on the alien’s chest – it was a female?
“My pretty face can’t appear on the zerg wanted list, so it looks like you’ll have to disappear.” With a swift motion, the female alien ended the soldier’s life before he could call for help.
She licked the zerg blood off her blade. “Brother, let’s move quickly.”
“Yeah, hand me the key.” The man replied in a gruff voice. He glanced up at the surveillance camera as he took the key.
“Mmph.” The long-term blindfolded star pirate leader struggled to see the faces of his rescuers.
Unfamiliar faces, but they were likely sent by his subordinates.
“Quick, get these handcuffs and leg irons off me. The zerg soldiers are highly adaptable. If we get surrounded, we won’t be able to escape.”
Luckily, the zerg soldiers had been interrogating him non-stop these past days, keeping his tongue agile. Otherwise, for someone whose senses had been sealed for a long time, saying such a long sentence would have been quite difficult.
“Mr. Leader, you seem to have misunderstood.” The woman pointed her knife at the pirate leader’s throat.
The sensation of the knife tip pressing against his throat made the pirate leader afraid to even breathe loudly.
“Your actions have affected a certain prince, and if we don’t kill you, it will cause a lot of trouble.” As she spoke, the woman pushed the knife tip forward, causing red blood to flow down the pirate’s neck into his clothes.
“No, please spare my life. I can give you all the treasures on my starship.” The pirate leader pleaded frantically. The more he moved, the more the knife tip cut into his skin, quickly staining his white collar red.
“Enough.” The man beside the woman looked displeased with her excessive actions.
“Sorry, we have other things to do and can’t listen to you any longer.”
“No, please…”
The knife tip pierced the pirate leader’s throat. He fell into a pool of blood, struggling helplessly as his life slipped away.
Next, they needed to go to the male zerg’s quarters on this starship to steal a specific robe.
This was also an order from the prince, a task that had to be completed.
The emergency power on the starship could only supply electricity to a few main rooms, such as the male zerg’s room, the command room, or the cockpit. The corridors of the entire starship were lit only by a few dim overhead lights.
“Be careful around the corner, there’s a model there,” Rhys said, his eyes fixed on the male zerg’s feet, afraid that the darkness might cause him to trip.
“Don’t worry, I’m using my mental power to feel my way,” He Qin replied, gripping the female zerg’s hand to reassure him.
They had just left the cockpit and needed to go to the command room for further investigation.
The command room was quite far from the cockpit. Fortunately, Rhys knew every corridor on this starship. He pressed hard on a weapon-like model, and the walls began to move. Soon, a new passage appeared before them.
“What’s this?”
“Taking this route will be much faster.”
Hearing the conversation coming from the far end of the corridor, the two aliens stopped simultaneously, exchanged glances, and communicated using special brainwaves.
‘Brother, isn’t this a secret passage?’
‘It should be. Let’s not act rashly, activate stealth mode and observe.’
‘Alright, but it doesn’t matter; we can always kill a few more zergs if needed.’
‘Focus on the main task, avoid unnecessary trouble.’
‘Got it, brother.’
The two of them pressed against the wall and simultaneously pressed the red buttons behind their ears. An emission of light waves from their ear covers made them disappear into the darkness.
Whenever Rhys went out, he always took the male zerg with him and also brought Little Leopard.
The cat’s night vision was excellent. Though the little creature usually didn’t get along with He Qin, in such times, it sensibly stayed close to the male zerg’s leg, pushing him away from obstacles.
“Rhys, wait a moment.”
He Qin and the little leopard stopped simultaneously, cautiously looking into the dark corridor. He Qin’s mental power could sense an unknown life form ahead, and the little leopard’s instincts had made its fur stand on end.
Rhys immediately sensed the anomaly and tightened the leash on Little Obidient to prevent the little leopard from impulsively charging ahead and alerting the enemy.
After they stopped, the corridor should have been silent and still, but Rhys could hear the faint sound of something rubbing against the air.
A long blade enveloped in electricity appeared in Rhys’s hand. The sound of the blade clashing with a bullet, “tang,” echoed through the corridor.
“The two gentlemen on the wall, you’ve been exposed. Show yourselves,” Rhys commanded.
He Qin used his non-physical mental power to clearly detect the positions of the two strangers. He also drew his laser gun for self-defense, standing behind Rhys, ready to pull the trigger if they attacked.
Since the assassination attempt on Earth, He Qin had made it a habit to always carry his weaponized space bracelet. He didn’t want to face the same dangerous situation twice, being surrounded and at a disadvantage was highly unpleasant.
“A male zerg?” The woman immediately recognized He Qin’s identity. His appearance was something every member of their team was required to remember.
Two burly figures emerged from the darkness, their faces obscured by some kind of light, but He Qin could discern that one of them was definitely female.
“Can you tell me what you two are doing here?” He Qin asked.
Which planet’s females were these from, with key parts similar to Earth women? Yet, the muscle mass they had was far more developed than most men on Earth.
“Handsome, we can’t answer that question,” the muscular woman said, her voice dripping with an unsettling charm.
He Qin’s arm instantly broke out in goosebumps; even through the light shield, he could feel the woman’s sticky, flirtatious gaze.
“Sir, how about you answer?” He Qin directed his question to the man, sensing he was the one in charge.
‘Brother, what should we do?’
‘I’ll count to three, then we’ll turn and run back. About ten meters away, there’s a portal I set up on the wall.’
‘1, 2, 3, run!’
Without any warning, the two aliens simultaneously turned and ran.
“Thud, thud.” The sound of laser shots echoed as they hit the wall.
Despite the distance of a few meters, by the time He Qin and Rhys caught up, the two had vanished into thin air using some unknown method.
“Awuu.” The little leopard, with a dark cylindrical object in its mouth, presented it to Rhys like a treasure.
“A spatial teleportation device?” Rhys exclaimed. It had been a long time since he had seen such a rare device.
What is a spatial teleportation device? Is it like Doraemon’s Anywhere Door?
He Qin took the cylinder and examined it but couldn’t discern anything special about it. It looked like just a black cylinder.
“This device is used in pairs to enable spatial jumps. It’s very effective for assassinating enemy leaders on the battlefield. However, it’s complicated to manufacture, and only a few elite Imperial legions possess them. I haven’t seen one on the battlefield for many years.”
This device was produced at the same time as the blue potion from before, also invented by enemies who had invaded the Zerg.
‘Clang,’ the lights in the corridor suddenly turned back on.
“Major General, the pirate leader has been killed.”
“What happened? Where are the guards?”
Rhys hurried to the cell area, where green Zerg blood and red pirate blood mingled on the ground. White cloths covered the heads of the lifeless Zerg soldiers, and the cold corpse of the pirate lay inside the cell.
“Besides the problems in the cell area and the fuel room, is there anything unusual in other areas?”
Rhys was in a foul mood. In less than half an hour, hundreds of Zerg soldiers had been outwitted by two individuals, and he had lost the only lead to implicate Qi Lun.
“No other problems found so far.”
The responding Zerg soldier’s head hung lower and lower, wishing to find a hole to hide in and escape the Major General’s questioning.
“Rhys, don’t you think something’s off?” He Qin habitually scratched something while thinking, constantly scratching his arm as he analyzed the situation.
Ah, finally, someone came to save him. The Zerg soldier internally thanked the male for saving him from the Major General’s wrath.
“What do you mean?”
He Qin looked around, then ordered all the Zerg soldiers out of the room. He leaned close to Rhys’s ear and whispered, “I think someone leaked our information to those people. There’s a traitor on this starship.”
Accurately attacking the fuel room to draw most soldiers to the rear of the starship and far from the cell area; successfully taking out two top Zerg soldiers and killing their target in just half an hour; all these required precise knowledge of the starship’s internal structure. Unless those two aliens had lived on this starship long enough, it would be impossible for them to know these details.
So, there must have been a traitor among them all along!
