Chapter 6: Preparing For The Awakening Ceremony
Waking up...
Yoru stretched his childish body and hopped off bed.
He towards the light coming from his window and guessed it was probably around five in the morning.
He did some light stretching and dropped to the floor.
He did some exercises to keep himself healthy and fit.
Maybe I should do this more when I was younger...
He paused for a second...
My original body I meant.
Then he continued doing some push ups. Then some sit ups, pull ups.
After a while, he peaked through his parents bedroom and saw that they were still asleep. He went down to the first floor and walked towards the kitchen, there was some warm food on the table and he sat down by the table and took it.
Quietly eating the food, he sighed and glanced at a small unfamiliar shadow by the corner of the kitchen.
"Come out, Rei, you're only look younger than me by a month so you don't need to be shy."
His voice sounded indifferent which really isn't a good way to ensure the person he was talking to.
What was he supposed to do anyway?
That was out of his control!
The maid, Rei.
Light brown skin and silver hair, pointed ears and beautiful emerald eyes, she may have looked young but she was atleast the same age as his parents.
Is she though? That I don't know...
The girl was introduced to us by Violet herself, she was an orphan with no one who wanted to take her.
She was training as a maid when he was of nine years of age, so this should have been their third year together as a part of the same household.
Despite how young she looked, the orphanage said she was atleast in her adult ages for humans, her looks just didn't change.
"Is... Is... The..."
She stuttered and fumbled with her words, her voice soft and her cheeks flushed with embarrassment as she ran away once more.
Feeling another presence somewhere, he looked around the kitchen but couldn't find it.
He continued eating once more.
"Come out, Mei."
He felt a sweet scent suddenly after he called out to his second maid who was hiding somewhere.
He was about to bring a piece of food to his mouth but the meat on his spoon levitated.
And then it flew up.
And up.
And up.
And up.
Not bothering to look, he continued eating.
Munch.
Munch.
Gulp.
"Get down from the ceiling, Mei."
He felt the air behind him flutter and finally felt his elusive maids presence.
" Apologies master, I've been waiting, and I couldn't resist wanting to taste the food."
His second maid, Mei.
Older than him by four years, she came from a race of Arachnid people, her father was a human and the mother was where she got her unusual abilities from.
Pale skin and bright red eyes, silky black hair and smooth skin. She looked very creepy, easy to mistake her by some spirit.
Her smile is creepy to...
She was always smiling from ear to ear, Violet took her in as a maid in training, her parents wanted her to get some outdoor experience by becoming a maid.
"It's fine, you've done well cooking for me."
Yoru finished the food and Mei eagerly took the bowl and started washing it in the sink.
Mei hummed a tune and said in a cheery tone:
"Rei was the one who cooked, young master!"
' Rei huh? Is that what she was trying to ask me, if the food was delicious? '
He washed his hands as well and watched as Mei cleaned the kitchen while wiping the table.
He couldn't see it but a whole system of threads were definitely connected to the broom, a towel, and at the dishes being stored in the racks.
"Do you have what I asked for?"
Mei looked at him with those bright red eyes, gleaming with pride.
A necklace with an azure colored gem on its center suddenly appeared Infront of Yoru's face, levitating in the air.
"Hehe! Of course Mei does!"
Mei's smile grew wider and dashed towards Yoru and bowing her head.
" Mei did good right!!? Praise Mei!!"
Yoru took the necklace with the azure gem and gave Mei a pat on the head.
Her hair was soft and silky, making it look like his fingers were gliding across obsidian black water.
" Good job, if anyone asks tell them I went out for a bit."
Mei nodded ecstatically and disappeared swiftly.
Yoru walked towards the door and stepped out of the house.
He gazes at the still dark sky, the sun in the distance was still rising slowly.
"Time to prepare."
***
Yoru went onto the streets of Glimaviel and passed a few students, they greeted him kindly but he only gave them an indifferent glance.
He looked at the azure colored gem on the necklace and then went through an alleyway.
There were nothing interesting about the alleyways, no one would even think of going through alleyways as it was littered with strays and gangs.
However this alleyway, despite how dark and smoky it was, there was no one, not even a soul or spirit within.
"..."
He ran his hands through the brick walls and felt something brush through his fingers, he traced his hand back and felt it again.
There was wind coming out of it.
He infused his mana in between where the wind was coming out of and blocked it.
Rumble...
The wall suddenly slid opened and inside was dim lighting, a small room filled with caged animals, boxes of all different shapes and size.
Each and every box, cage and animal had paper symbols attached to them.
The ink looked normal for any other person but for Yoru, it was ominous and intricate.
He boxes emitted off a faint, pale blue aura, the cages weren't special much but the animals inside had features about them that they should not have had.
Paying them no attention, he turned his head towards a green cloaked figure that had a veil obstructing the persons face.
"My, my~ You've come again boy?"
The voice was soothing and calm, yet extremely eerie and mysterious. The voice came from that woman behind the desk yet it was as if her voice came from everywhere at the same time.
...
I already visited this woman once, it was just by accident that I stumbled upon her out in the night.
Back then it was past dinner already but the substitute teacher kept us too long.
Just the day before I planned on trying to get some experience by comforting the dead, I offered help to a deceased who wasn't able to get into eternal slumber.
So when I was finally able to find her and help her vent her frustrations, tell me her story, and comfort her...
An evil spirit came by, jealous of why she was able to find peace instead of it.
I was still inexperienced in these regards, even with the knowledge of my grandmas notes, I still could not act recklessly.
It was only then that the lady stepped in and trapped the spirit in one of her boxes.
At first glance she looked to be an average mage in her early twenties that probably practiced magic that could harm ghosts and intangible beings.
But I knew all too well what she just did
Shaman magic.
Things like these were not practiced in an academy of magic and sorcery.
"I've come to greet my teacher—"
She took off her veil and sighed while smiling at me, then spoke:
"Spare me the flattery darling, I didn't save you so I could get an apprentice."
Cunning and sharp gold eyes and beautiful emerald hair, fair smooth skin and a smile that can captivate both living and the dead.
I lifted my head up then pointed to the pile of papers on her desk, then I asked in the politest tone I could:
"Is it possible to borrow a few sheets, teacher?"
She already knew that I was capable of seeing the dead, and even during our first meeting she praised me for comforting that spirit and not doing anything rash when confronting that violent spirit.
What's more is that...
She knows I'm different than the people she's met before, yet she doesn't know how.
She gave me a long look and tore five empty sheets and a small bottle of ink, along with a brush.
She sighed and used normal magic to float it towards me.
"Careful with what you do now, your Awakening Ceremony is coming soon. Few children even know how to prepare, ahh~ I feel nostalgic."
She smiled and gestured with her hands telling me to leave.
I bowed again and said, my voice back to its indifferent tone:
"Thank you, Teacher. I shall take my leave."
She clicked her tongue then then said with a slightly irritated tone:
"Darling, please, Just call me Elaris."
I gave her a long look then nodded.
"Teacher Elaris."
"Little bra—!"
Before she could finish her words, I was already casted out of the room from within the wall.
I walked out of the dark alley and towards the open plains.
The sun was still rising, painting the sky with it's magnificent glow.
I went towards a tree and then sat underneath it.
I took out the necklace and put it over my head, a sudden feeling of energy was wrapped on my body.
I opened my palms and whispered a chant I read from one of the books I read.
"Mana Flow, even circulation."
The energy that was enveloping my body making parts of my body both heavy and light, suddenly turned to normal.
The feeling was still there but it no longer felt like coming out of a pool with your clothes all soaking wet.
So this is Mana.
***
People that are not awakened do not have Mana/Magical Energy, so they are unable to cast spells or strengthen their body.
What they do have though is Life Essence, it acts as their second blood.
I do not need to think of anything else right now...
How was I able to circulate Mana even though I wasn't awakened though?
"This necklace is simply an F+ item, kids that come from wizards, mage, sorcerer families will get these kinds of items so they are familiar with circulating their Mana or Magical Energy. Even if I am not awakened to become a mage and wield a wand, those that use melee weapons use their mana as well, strengthening themselves for slashes or for their speed."
Those that have not awakened were given these kinds of items by their families or were just bought.
Since they do not know what class they have yet, it's best to start with low Ranked items.
If I were to have used D- higher, my body wouldn't be able to handle it's pressure and I would have collapsed on the spot.
"I can't be sure that I'll be a mage so my only plan to prepare is to master Mana circulation without having to chant it out loud. If I can do that before or after I awaken then it'll be much easier for me."
I wonder though...
What if I didn't become a mage? Then most of my preparations will be for nothing, if I am to be some warrior then I would lack in physical strength.
An archer? I would lack in experience even if some bows use mana for arrows.
Gunslinger? No experience as well, what's more is that it takes a huge load of mana for bullets. The Gunslinger role is not part of the options in Awakening, it's just the few that branch from Mage and sorcery.
If I am not a mage then using guns are useless if just a few rounds will make me pass out.
Shaking his head and focusing.
He continued to circulate his mana again.
The future is unclear, but whatever happens, he'll have to adapt to it.
