Chapter 7: Chapter 7: The Appearance of the Spider's Lair!
"So, you guys are Spider-Men too?" Peni asked in surprise, her Spider-Mech companion's head screen matching the mood with a ( ╹▽╹ ) expression.
The living room at Aunt May's house was now completely crowded. Just moments ago, three more Spider-People had arrived.
They were: Spider-Woman Gwen Stacy, dressed in a black, white, and red suit with a slim figure; Peter Parker, the middle-aged Spider-Man, wearing the classic red-and-blue suit on top but paired with long underwear and sporting a big belly; and the second-generation Spider-Man of this world, Miles Morales, also known as "Little Black Spider."
"Umm... yes, I didn't expect to meet so many of my kind, honestly, I'm pretty surprised," said the middle-aged Peter.
Bi De stood aside, quietly observing the three newcomers.
To be honest, he was pretty shocked to see them. Miles Morales, of course, was not unexpected—he was the next Spider-Man of this world, and Bi De had even played a game featuring a different version of him.
As for this middle-aged Peter, he was actually from Earth-616, the main Marvel universe. However, he had reached middle age and, after enduring a series of setbacks, had become lethargic and disheveled, a picture of a tired, middle-aged man.
And the so-called "main universe" theory wasn't entirely reliable. Bi De knew that there were three Spider-Men in the movie versions: Tobey's Spider-Man, Andrew's Spider-Man, and Tom Holland's Spider-Man. Logically, these three should all belong to the main universe, but the middle-aged Peter before him looked nothing like any of them, so Bi De wasn't sure who he really was.
Finally, there was Spider-Gwen. She was from Earth-65, where the development of the world had diverged significantly from the others. In most worlds, Peter Parker was bitten by a spider and became Spider-Man, but in Gwen's case, she was the one who was bitten.
However, she didn't immediately become a superhero. She continued playing drums in her band until one day, her classmate Peter Parker, who had long been bullied, created a serum to turn himself into the Lizard. Gwen stopped him, but the serum's defect led to Peter dying in her arms. This tragedy made Gwen realize that "with great power comes great responsibility," and she became Spider-Woman.
As the saying goes: Two Spider-People ≈ Five Hundred Ducks. So imagine the scene when seven Spider-People gather together—it was nothing short of heartwarming, though hard to imagine.
Fortunately, not all of them were Peter Parker. Among the two Peter Parkers present, Spider-Man Noir was chatty but not overly verbose, while the middle-aged Peter, although wanting to show off his second superpower aside from his spider abilities, was trying to maintain his adult image in front of the younger Miles.
After an initial intense discussion, the living room fell into a quick silence once more. During this time, everyone did a brief self-introduction, completing their first round of introductions.
Because of their identities, the three newcomers quickly integrated into the family.
At this moment, Bi De had a strange thought.
"Seven spiders gathered together… isn't this the Spider Lair?"
The arrival of the three didn't just increase the headcount of their "Spider family." They also brought with them some good news—they had obtained data on the particle collider!
This was the result of their hard work during the day.
The middle-aged Peter and Little Black Spider (Miles) had infiltrated the lab of this world's version of Doctor Octopus, Olivia Octavius. They snatched a computer host containing the particle collider data, and with Spider-Woman Gwen's help, successfully brought it out!
This was a huge piece of good news for the struggling team.
Furthermore, they learned that Kingpin planned to conduct another experiment with the particle collider in a few days. This would be the perfect opportunity for them to return to their respective worlds!
Not only that, but Little Black Spider also had a "key"—a device to destroy the particle collider—obtained from the deceased Peter Parker of this world. Aunt May called it a "little thing."
However, the key was damaged.
Now, things had become simpler.
The next steps were to study the particle collider data from the computer host and repair the key or make a new one. Then, they would go to Kingpin's lab, find the collider, and once it was activated, each of them would enter it and return to their respective worlds. Finally, one person would use the key to destroy the collider.
That was the entire plan.
However, when it came to choosing the person who would stay behind to deactivate the collider, the group had different opinions.
Theoretically, the most suitable candidate would be Little Black Spider (Miles), as he was from this world. But Miles was still only a 14-year-old child, and like Bi De, he had only recently been bitten by the spider.
The difference was that Little Black Spider's powers had already been activated, though his battle experience was almost zero—unless you counted the chase they had after stealing the data.
But obviously, none of the people present could bring themselves to leave someone as inexperienced as Miles behind to face Kingpin and his men alone.
In the next moment, as if in unison, everyone spoke at once:
"Let me do it!"
Making this decision required great courage, for it meant that the person would be left forever in a strange world that wasn't theirs.
No, because of quantum collapse, they would die.
They would completely die.
And it would be in a universe that wasn't even a foreign land, but a completely alien one.
The next moment, everyone experienced the distortion effect that came with quantum collapse, screaming as they fell to the ground.
"No, no! This can't happen!" Little Black Spider shouted, watching the others. "You'll die! None of you can stay! It should be me to deactivate the machine! I'll wait until you all get back before doing it."
By now, everyone had started to recover, but they remained silent.
Clearly, even though they didn't say it, none of them fully trusted Little Black Spider's abilities.
Little Black Spider continued, "Listen, I promised him. I have to do this."
Everyone knew he was referring to the bond between him and the Peter Parker of this world.
Middle-aged Peter chimed in, "Yeah, this kid is actually pretty strong. He can even turn invisible fast. Show them, Miles."
"Umm..." Little Black Spider Miles began to concentrate.
However, the embarrassing thing was that after a long while, nothing happened.
"I still can't just turn invisible when I want to," Miles said, dejected.
