Chapter 197: Chapter 197: The Star Spirit
In summary, the Storm Empire still lacked deep resources. After all, it was a force established just nine years ago. Although the T6 Vermilion Ape-Class Interstellar Battleship was highly tempting to Feng Mo, he knew that one should act within their means. It would require patient strategy, waiting until the right time to make a decisive move.
The temporary mission, however, could be attempted immediately, and its reward was equally appealing to Feng Mo: a T5 Fleet Steed-Class Interstellar Warp Ship.
This was a logistical vessel with a unique function—a portable star gate. Even more powerful than a conventional gate, it could reach any location given a set of coordinates, though its teleportation range was limited. Feng Mo hadn't seen the blueprints yet, so he couldn't determine the ship's exact teleportation range. If it could span star systems, it would be incredible.
This vessel held substantial strategic value and was a groundbreaking design the Federation's Starship Design Department had yet to develop. If Feng Mo could build it, it would signify that the Storm Empire had surpassed the Federation in starship design capabilities. Perhaps he could even use this warp ship to negotiate a technology exchange with the Federation, possibly obtaining access to T6-class starship designs.
Feng Mo recalled that Uncle Gu Jun had mentioned that the Federation might already possess quasi-T6 starships. However, Feng Mo hadn't seen them, leaving two possibilities: either the quasi-T6 starship hadn't been developed yet, or the Federation was using it as a baited trap.
The thought of a potential trap sent a chill down Feng Mo's spine. He'd never considered that the Federation might be baiting him, but if Gu Jun knew about it, there was no reason for the Moon Clan not to know. Yet they still chose to support the Radiant Empire's bid for independence—what were they truly after?
Feng Mo felt like he was walking through a labyrinth of mist, where finding the exit would be no easy task. But he had his own philosophy: against absolute strength, all schemes were ultimately meaningless.
After breakfast, Feng Mo took Han Peipei to the newly reconstructed Snow Eagle Starport. The Storm God and Paladin had been fully inspected, with ample weapons and supplies. Feng Mo also decided to bring along a T5 Gulf-Class Interstellar Supply Ship.
"Peipei, you'll be the captain of the Paladin this time. Think you're up for it?" Feng Mo's words left Han Peipei frozen in shock before she gradually processed what he said, nodding frantically in excitement.
Feng Mo chuckled at her reaction. His secretary was more than capable, though sometimes a bit clueless. It wasn't her fault; if you were a fleet officer who'd only ever commanded T3 or T2 fleets, suddenly being asked to command a T5 fleet would naturally be daunting.
Han Peipei's previous experience was limited to T3-class ships, so the idea of commanding a rare T5-class interstellar battleship in the Federation was understandably overwhelming. However, she was nodding so eagerly because she wanted the challenge. Having served under Feng Mo for nearly three years, she had carefully observed his fleet and ship commands and wasn't about to miss this opportunity.
Watching her, Feng Mo smiled. "I'll leave the Paladin in your hands, but if there are any mistakes, it means you still need more training. You'll go back to learning at my side for a year before I'll give you another chance."
With that, Feng Mo turned and boarded the Storm God, while Han Peipei, now resolute, boarded the Paladin.
"Coordinates locked, route set, route secure, supplies confirmed. Fleet entering level-five synchronized warp travel mode; crew below Level-2 Gene Warrior, please enter deep-sea stasis mode." Han Peipei's voice echoed through the three ships, and the fleet set off.
According to the coordinates, the fleet's route took them first to the Beast Roar System, then through its interstellar space, followed by one more system to reach the signal's origin.
With the Beast Roar System bordered by the Celestial Crystal System to the south and the Frostwind System to the north, they headed westward, where the signal had originated.
The fleet entered warp, reaching the Snow Eagle System's star gate before transmitting to the Beast Roar System. There, they initiated warp mode again, crossing the interstellar space of Beast Roar and finally arriving at a reef-like star system.
The Beast Roar System had a unique location, surrounded by three reef-like systems and bordered only on the south by the Celestial Crystal System. After traversing this interstellar space, the fleet arrived at a vibrant star system.
Feng Mo hadn't been here before, and the Federation lacked records on it. Perhaps the highest-level databases contained some references, but they were beyond Feng Mo's access.
He didn't rush to the specified coordinates. He realized that bringing just three ships might have been rash—he should have included a stealth bomber as well. However, while passing through the Beast Roar System, Feng Mo had redirected a T4 Scorpion from the Beast Roar Fleet to serve as a scout.
The T4 Scorpion had already arrived at the coordinates. Observing the transmitted footage, Feng Mo saw no signs of a battle. He guessed it might be a trap or that their enemy's cleanup capabilities rivaled the Storm Empire's efficiency in leaving no trace.
Just as Feng Mo decided to wait and observe, the video feed shifted, capturing a small fleet approaching. Feng Mo watched as eight T5 starships, each bearing a skull emblem, drew closer—an unmistakable mark of interstellar pirates and raiders, used to intimidate and identify their kind.
This kind of force wasn't to be taken lightly. Seeing the eight T5 ships, Feng Mo had an idea and ordered, "Fleet, advance slowly. Storm God, lock onto the enemy flagship. Paladin, target the remaining seven ships. Charge T5 cluster-type star annihilation cannons and main and auxiliary cannons. Make every shot count!"
The fleet proceeded cautiously toward the coordinates. Once both sides were within radar range, the Storm God and Paladin locked onto the enemy ships, and Feng Mo's command rang out: "Fire!"
In an instant, over fifty blue beams and five brown pillars of light shot straight toward the pirate fleet. The pirate flagship's radar had only just sounded its alarm, giving the enemy commander no time to react before the star annihilation cannons struck.
Despite the ship's AI automatically setting shields to maximum and activating all close-defense lasers in interception mode, the T5 cluster-type star annihilation cannons and T5 ship's main and auxiliary guns were unstoppable. Interception was impossible; a direct hit was inevitable.
