Chapter 198: Chapter 198: The Interstellar Pirates
The pirate fleet commander was still in a daze, barely processing the sudden appearance of a fleet with only three ships before their devastating attack struck. At this point, there was little he could do but pray that his fleet's shields could withstand the Storm Empire's assault.
But reality proved otherwise. The shields didn't hold, and his fleet was torn apart, with every ship exploding into fragments. His flagship, a heavily armored battleship with reinforced shields and heavy artillery, survived better than the others. While battered, it wasn't as obliterated as the other T5 ships, which had erupted into terrifying explosions.
The T5 Paladin-Class Interstellar Annihilation Battleship was technically a battleship, but it was several times more expensive and equipped with far superior weaponry. Its four T5-class cluster annihilation cannons could eliminate enemy destroyers and frigates with a single shot, putting on a "fireworks show" for anyone watching.
In the Storm God's main control room, Feng Mo sat on his captain's chair, observing the crippled enemy flagship on the radar display. He turned to Feng Xian and ordered:
"Take a team of interstellar mechas and bring back every living pirate on that flagship."
"Yes, my lord!"
Inside the pirate flagship's control room, the fleet commander could hear explosions and the panicked cries of his crew echoing around him. Secured to his captain's chair, he stared blankly at the radar, where the eight green dots representing his fleet blinked out one by one until only his flagship remained—a crippled shadow of its former self.
Outside the pirate flagship, ten interstellar mechas entered through a massive breach made by the annihilation cannon. Feng Xian and nine other mecha pilots disembarked, dressed in T3 combat armor and wielding laser guns—standard survival gear Feng Mo had equipped for each of his pilots.
Led by Feng Xian, they cut through the control room doors and entered, systematically executing any surviving pirates. After ensuring the area was clear, Feng Xian and two other pilots approached the captain's chair, where the stunned pirate commander sat with a hollow gaze.
At Feng Xian's signal, the two mecha pilots grabbed the pirate commander, cuffing his hands and feet, and pushed him toward their mechas. They then flew back to the Storm God with their prisoner in tow. Feng Mo, meanwhile, was still pondering the mission details from the Spark System's task panel.
The mission clearly required him to defeat or repel an interstellar mechanical fleet and rescue the Star Spirits. Yet, upon arrival, he'd encountered only interstellar pirates. Confused, he decided to interrogate the pirate commander first to shed light on the situation.
Half an hour later, Feng Xian returned to the Storm God, escorting the shackled pirate commander into the control room. Upon seeing Feng Mo, Feng Xian saluted and reported:
"My lord, this is the pirate fleet's commander!"
With that, he forced the pirate commander to his knees with a rough shove. Feng Mo looked down at the disheveled pirate commander, his voice icy as he asked:
"Explain your origins. Not many pirate groups in this region have T5 ships. Where are you from?"
The pirate commander looked up at Feng Mo's young face, his gaze filled with fear. Trembling, he asked, "Are you... Lord Feng Mo? Yes, it must be—you are Feng Mo!"
The first part was a question, but the second was a statement, piquing Feng Mo's interest. He asked, "Oh? Interesting. How did you recognize me?"
"My name is Chen Wei," the pirate commander began. "I recognized the three emblems on your ships—the Federation, the Storm Empire, and the Storm Fleet. It's rumored that you prefer battleships as flagships, and everything fits. It wasn't hard to deduce."
"And how do you know this?" Feng Mo inquired.
Chen Wei continued, "I once served in the Starsea Human Federation. Later, I joined an exploration fleet and, through a twist of fate, ended up as a pirate fleet commander. I kept in touch with certain people within the Federation and often heard your name. I even had the chance to watch footage of you commanding your fleet to annihilate the Snow Eagle Fleet. It was inspiring."
Feng Mo interrupted, unimpressed by the flattery. "Enough. If you know my name, you know my methods. Tell me where the Star Spirits are and why your fleet is here. And don't waste my time—you don't want to experience an interrogation."
Chen Wei froze at the warning. Taking a cautious glance at Feng Mo's stern expression, he replied:
"This star system is called the Sairen System. As for the Star Spirits, they were here with only three ships when they were ambushed by an interstellar mechanical fleet at these very coordinates just a day ago."
Chen Wei continued, "The Sairen System used to be a haven for pirates, with more than twenty factions—four of them major ones. But three months ago, the interstellar mechanical fleet found this place, and Sairen fell. Those who didn't surrender were killed. The four major factions crumbled, and the ones with no backbone all submitted."
"Including you?" Feng Mo interjected.
Chen Wei's face darkened, but he nodded, a defeated look washing over him as he sat down, slumped and weary.
"Yes, my lord. Of the twenty factions, every one of us had confidently vowed to fight the mechanical fleet to the death. We spoke of courage and loyalty to our race, but when the battle began, most factions collapsed at the first blow. Only a handful of us survived, and we had no choice but to submit."
"I'm not saying this to make excuses. I just want to be honest with you. I surrendered to survive. I don't care about honor or duty to humanity—I just wanted to live."
Feng Mo waved his hand dismissively, uninterested in Chen Wei's excuses. "Where are the Star Spirits being held? And describe the mechanical fleet's presence in the Sairen System."
"The Star Spirits are being detained on the nearby Moss Planet. The defenses there aren't extensive. Aside from the eight T5 ships under my command, there are twenty T5 mechanical warships and over three hundred T4 ships guarding the area."
Chen Wei paused before adding, "As for the entire Sairen System, the mechanical fleet has stationed considerable forces here—over a hundred T5 mechanical warships and thousands of T4 mechanical ships."
