Starsea Fleet: Age of the Lord

Chapter 208: Chapter 208: Surprise Attack!

In a desolate asteroid belt, a massive, ancient planet loomed in darkness. As stars age, they go through phases, with white dwarfs marking expansion into red giants and black dwarfs signaling death. However, this planet wasn't merely a cold, lifeless body. Its core energy had been completely drained by an unknown species, leaving it a hollow shell, eerily reminiscent of the Insectoid swarm's approach to resource extraction.

Surrounding this dying world was an extensive fleet of nearly two thousand Mechanical Clan warships, with over a quarter of them classified as T5. This Mechanical First Fleet was considerably stronger than the Second and Third Fleets Feng Mo had previously faced.

In the command center of the Mechanical Clan's flagship, the commander Xiu Meng seethed with anger. Both his younger brothers had been killed by Feng Mo—one tricked into defeat, the other entirely wiped out with his fleet. Two battle recordings played in a loop on his screen, showing the Mechanical flagships' perspective in both encounters. Xiu Meng could feel the stark difference between the Third Fleet's initial clash with the Storm Fleet and the later battle where the Second Fleet was decimated.

In just two years, Feng Mo had gone from lacking the power to challenge the Mechanical Third Fleet to designing a T5 fleet capable of obliterating the Second. Xiu Meng saw Feng Mo as a serious threat, and if he were allowed to continue growing, this human might become a danger to his people. With that in mind, Xiu Meng uploaded the battle recordings and his analysis to the Mechanical Clan's database, marking Feng Mo with a red "enemy of the clan" alert, signaling all Mechanical units to prioritize his elimination.

With his report complete, Xiu Meng shifted his attention back to the massive tree at the planet's core. This towering tree's trunk had begun to take on humanoid features, a sign of its approaching maturity. Xiu Meng muttered to himself, "Almost there… Once I offer this treasure to the Homeland, I'll earn T6 technology. I'll lead the fleet, flatten the entire Starsea Human Federation, and personally avenge my brothers by killing Feng Mo."

Suddenly, a piercing electronic alarm jolted Xiu Meng from his thoughts.

"Alert! Radar detects multiple starships appearing above the fleet's left flank! Star shields at maximum power, close-defense guns engage immediately!"

As the alarm faded, the entire Mechanical fleet and the surrounding planet were engulfed in explosions, gunfire, and the thunderous sounds of tearing metal. In an instant, the bombardment stunned Xiu Meng into silence.

On the flagship's radar, friendly green blips dimmed rapidly. Within moments, nearly two thousand signals had gone gray. Only after catching sight of the burning debris outside did Xiu Meng realize that his life was nearing its end. At that moment, he recalled a fleeting image of a ship he'd once seen—the Fleet Steed-class jump ship!

As the Storm Fleet completed its jump, Feng Mo wasted no time, issuing commands immediately:

"Radar, scan for enemy ships. T5 cluster annihilation cannons and main and secondary batteries, fire at will! Launch a full-scale missile barrage. Mello, mop up any stragglers."

"Yes, my lord!" came the unified response from the captains.

Fully charged, the five cluster annihilation cannons roared to life, each firing a column of destructive brown energy. The blasts shattered the shields of five T5 Mechanical warships before piercing them entirely, triggering secondary explosions that tore through the fleet.

The secondary cannons followed suit, weaving a deadly network of fire that engulfed the Mechanical fleet below, detonating ship after ship. Over ten thousand T5 missiles descended upon the enemy. In the chaos, the Mechanical Clan could barely activate their shields, let alone intercept the barrage.

Missile after missile struck the hulls of Mechanical warships, shattering them into blazing fragments. Below, the Mechanical First Fleet was engulfed in flames, unable to comprehend how the Storm Fleet had appeared directly overhead.

This was the terror of the Fleet Steed jump ship in action. It was as if the Storm Fleet had thrown a grenade while the Mechanical Clan dined, only for it to explode before they could react. The Mechanical forces were left feeling trapped and helpless.

As Xiu Meng gazed at the humanoid tree, close to ripening, he hadn't anticipated that his fleet would be wiped out before he could claim it. In his final moments, he wondered how the Storm Fleet had appeared so suddenly, and then it dawned on him—he had once seen something like this before: the Fleet Steed jump ship.

Feng Mo and the Mechanical Clan seemed fated to be enemies. Within three or four years, he had decimated three of their T5 fleets, eradicating the Mechanical Clan's entire mobile force in the region. The Starsea Human Federation should have awarded him a banner for his service.

Amidst the flaming wreckage on the lower right side of the Storm Fleet, spherical fireballs continued to burn, fueled by the oxygen within the enemy ships. Unlike typical ground fires, flames in space formed into spheres. As the oxygen inside each ship depleted, the fire gradually died.

After a single barrage, the Storm Fleet had decimated most of the Mechanical First Fleet. The few ships that remained intact were either crippled or immediately targeted by the eight T5 Mystic Birds for cleanup.

The outcome was now clear. The battle had been won the moment Feng Mo utilized the jump ship, making this a one-sided assault. It was a display of overwhelming firepower, and all the Mechanical Clan could do was watch their fleet disintegrate.

Now that the Fleet Steed had proven itself capable of transporting an entire fleet into battle, Feng Mo intended to continue his testing—perhaps even attempting to transport explosives or laser weaponry directly into enemy positions. After all, only through experimentation could he uncover the full potential of his technology.

"Peipei, send this battle recording back to Command and have them calculate the optimal jump location. This time, we jumped too close to the enemy. Some of our ships were hit by the debris, and their shields took a beating."

"These are valuable resources—if you're not managing a fleet, you wouldn't understand the cost of supplies and repairs," Feng Mo added. "We need to tighten up our operations, cut where we can, and spend where we must. This jump had its flaws, and we can't afford such mistakes in the future."

At Feng Mo's comments, Han Peipei fought back a smile. Their lord was indeed remarkable, but he was also notoriously thrifty. His penny-pinching approach had turned his captains into near scavengers. Still, he had a point; optimizing their jump location could prevent unnecessary damage.
