Superman: The Lost Warrior

Chapter 13: New Discoveries

Zara's POV

Damian decided to stay over so we could visit the girl first thing in the morning. I wake up early, excitement buzzing through me, and get ready in record time. Then, I head to Damian's room.

"Damian," I whisper, giving him a gentle nudge. He groans, cracking one eye open to glare at me with mock annoyance.

"It's six in the morning, Zara," he says, his voice still heavy with sleep.

"But it's almost bright out," I reply, pouting a little to sway him.

He sighs and shuts his eye for a moment before muttering, "Give me 15 minutes."

Unable to contain my joy, I throw my arms around him in a quick hug. "You're the best!" I exclaim before darting out of the room, already brimming with anticipation for the day ahead.

Damian's POV

I'm just settling back into my much-needed sleep when I hear Zara's voice.

"Damian," she whispers, nudging me.

I groan and force one eye open, finding her staring at me with that hopeful, expectant expression I can never seem to resist.

"It's six in the morning, Zara," I grumble, hoping that might deter her.

"But it's almost bright out," she counters, pouting dramatically.

I sigh in defeat, knowing I'd regret turning her down. "Give me 15 minutes."

Before I can say another word, she hugs me tightly. "You're the best!" she beams, then rushes out of the room.

I feel a strange warmth settle in my chest. I shake it off and get ready quickly.

We walk to the hospital, the early morning chill brushing against us. Zara, being as friendly as always, greets the guards at the entrance with a smile. Once inside, I approach the receptionist and ask about the girl we brought in yesterday.

The woman checks her records and nods. But just as she's about to give me the room number, she says something strange.

"We ran her DNA through the database, but there's no match. She isn't from this country. Be careful about her."

Her words linger in my mind as we head to the girl's room. Zara, however, seems unfazed.

"I refuse to believe she's a bad person," she says defiantly, her expression firm.

I glance at her and can't help but smile. So trusting.

Zara's POV

As we step into the room, the girl looks up at us with wide, cautious eyes. I walk over to her, kneeling by her bedside.

"How are you feeling?" I ask gently.

"I feel much better," she says with a small smile. "Thank you for saving me."

Her gratitude warms me, but then her expression shifts, her voice dropping to a more serious tone. "I hope you don't regret it."

My heart skips a beat at her words. "What do you mean?" I ask, worry creeping into my voice.

She hesitates, glancing toward Damian before looking back at me. "I shouldn't be here," she whispers, as if the very walls might betray her secret.
