The Cute Girl That Everyone Thinks Is Perfect Really Hates Me, But I Know Her Weakness Because I Was Raised In A Lab That Creates Perfect Humans

Chapter 20_ Uncontrollable Spy

It was another seemingly-normal school day.

Haruto-kun and I were talking to each other as usual until we were approached by a boy who’d never really hung out with us before.

“Hey, what’s up Mizutaka-kun and Haruto-kun?”

Haruto-kun responded on our behalf.

“You don’t usually talk to us, Abe-kun. What’s brought you here?”

“I heard that you guys play this mobile game. Are you down for a match?”

It was true that we did play the game, although it was mostly Haruto-kun since I never found myself all too engaged in it. It was too easy anyways. Abe-kun seemed to be pretty interested in playing with us, so I decided to just join in and try to have some fun.

“What’s your friend tag?” asked Haruto-kun.

We all traded our game handles and added each other. With that, Haruto-kun initiated a match, and the three of us began to fight.

I held back a little bit and made it so that we played on somewhat even levels.

Now that I thought about it, this was the first time in a long time that I’d really interacted at school with anyone other than Haruto-kun and Hamasaki-san.

It felt a little weird, but it wasn’t a bad feeling.

Before long, despite holding back, I was still able to win the match.

I got up out of my seat.

“Sorry guys, I’ve got to do something. I’ll be right back.”

I needed to talk to Hamasaki-san.

For the first time in my entire life, I approached Hamasaki-san of my own accord. It was a time when she wasn’t completely surrounded by people, giving me an opportunity to talk to her without drawing too much attention.

She looked up at me with a confused expression that quickly turned to disdain.

“What do you want?” She asked.

“I need to talk to you in private.”

“What, have you come to ask me out? No, that’s my final answer.”

What in the world…

“That’s not it.”

Eventually, she got up and followed me out into the hall.

“This better be worth my time, Mizutaka-kun.”

“I’m sure you’ll find that it will be.”

Making our way to our previous ‘meeting spot’, we stood beside the lonely vending machine once again. Waiting a little while, I made sure that no one was around to hear it aside from her. It wasn’t necessarily that it was something I needed to keep private, but causing a commotion wasn’t something I wanted to do.

“You said that you like Miyazaki Kaede, the actor, right?”

“Mhm? What’s this about her?”

“Have you wanted to work in the entertainment industry?”

Hamasaki-san seemed genuinely intrigued. Closing the uncomfortable large amount of distance between us just a little, she moved in to hear my words more clearly.

“The Oyama-Maezda Production Company are currently recruiting people for their junior sector. I can get you a personal recommendation from Miyazaki-san.”

For the first time I’ve witnessed, Hamasaki-san was taken aback. However, it seemed that she wasn’t fully convinced.

“You don’t believe that I can do that, right?”

“You’ll have to show me some proof.”

“Alright.”

I opened my phone and pulled up my messages with Miyazaki-san. Scrolling down a little, I made sure to hide the part where she invited me to her house.

Turning my phone around, I showed Hamasaki-san.

She was a little more convinced.

“If you still don’t believe me, I can call her, and you can talk to her in person.”

It seemed that she was in shock. Frantically looking around the place, it looked like Hamasaki-san was trying to wrap her head around the entire situation.

“How… why is Kaede-chan talking with someone like you….”

“That doesn’t matter, does it? So, do you want to take the offer or not?”

“G-give me a moment to think about it…”

Before she could run away, I grabbed her arm.

“Make a decision now. I don’t want to wait for you.”

“Since when were you…”

Staring down at the ground, Hamasaki-san ran her fingers through her hair, twirling them around.

“…I’ll take it.”

“That’s a good decision.”

I notified Miyazaki-san of what Hamasaki-san said.

She looked up at me.

I still hadn’t told Hamasaki-san about the condition for giving her the reference. I guess it’d be fine if I let her settle in for a little while. My relationship with her still wasn’t the best, so it’d be worth waiting before telling her about what I needed.

“This offer isn’t just a gift to you. When you become part of the program, I need you to do something for me.”

“What? What do you need me to do?”

“I’ll explain it further down the track. For now, work on making a name for yourself.”

“What… why are you telling me what to do? How do you have access to this… Why do you have Miyazaki-san’s number…? Who are you, Mizutaka-kun?”

“It doesn’t matter. But for the time being, I’m going to need you to assign someone else to clean the classroom.”

Completely confused, Hamasaki-san stared at me. I guess it’d take a little while for her to wrap her head around what was going on. It shouldn’t be an issue for now—soon enough. She’ll accept the situation. She was smart, after all.

She was my best choice when it came to success rate. Hamasaki-san definitely had the traits of an actor or an idol. It wouldn’t be a problem for her to rise through the ranks of the company.

The hardest part was going to be making her a useful spy. She wasn’t just going to follow my orders like a dog. Even talking to her was difficult, especially with her unfavourable impression of me. Still, there was no better person to choose.

It’d take some time, but I was going to infiltrate the Oyama-Maezda Production Company.

I was going to find out what was happening behind the scenes of their scheme.
