The kings Avater

Chapter 13: GAME CHANGER

Everstay walked slowly toward the fallen Torrak, the air was thick with tension. His teammates—Somi, Grayworm, Sparrow, Omega—watched intently from a distance, unsure of what their captain was planning. The massive creature, once an unstoppable force, now lay motionless, seemingly defeated. Its glowing rune, a symbol of its immense power, was dimmed, but not entirely extinguished.

"What are you doing?" Somi called out, her voice filled with concern. "It's dangerous to approach it like that!"

"I have to confirm if it's really dead," Everstay replied, his voice calm but resolute. He was determined to be sure, even if it meant putting himself at risk.

As Everstay walked closer, the game's mechanics allowed the viewers to see his perspective. The large screen shifted, and his point of view filled the stadium's monitors. The crowd murmured in anticipation, watching as Everstay carefully examined the Torrak's still body. The creature's once-ferocious presence was now eerily silent, save for the faint hum of the rune on its chest.

"Anything?" Omega's voice came through the comms.

"Nothing… yet," Everstay replied, his eyes scanning every inch of the Torrak's body. He moved to the side of the rune, the blue light dimming but not entirely vanishing. It was still there, but weaker than before.

Everstay took out one of his arrows, his fingers swift as he prepared to test its effectiveness once again. He aimed for the rune and released the shot. The arrow hit its mark, but the rune didn't react as expected. Instead of the arrow sinking into the rune as it had with the Torrak's previous weaknesses, the arrow shattered upon impact, falling to the ground in pieces.

"Damn it," Everstay muttered under his breath, frustrated. He quickly reached for his sword, unsheathing it in one fluid motion.

"That might be dangerous, Cap," Sparrow warned, his voice tinged with caution.

"I know, but I have to confirm something," Everstay said, his expression focused. With one powerful swing, he brought his sword down on the rune. The sword hit with a loud, metallic clash, the sound of steel striking steel echoing through the area. But the sword didn't penetrate. The rune didn't crack or falter. It remained as strong and unyielding as before.

The group remained on high alert, unsure of what to make of this new development. Everstay turned back to his team, his expression unreadable. "It's either sleeping, i don't know, but its definitely in it's defensive mode.we cant penetrate it."

Grayworm squinted at the beast, his mind working. "What if it's regenerating? You know, taking time to recover after all the damage it took?"

"That's possible," Everstay acknowledged, his voice low. "But the truth is, we can't fight it like this. It's in its most defensive form right now. We can't harm it until it's vulnerable."

Somi tapped her chin thoughtfully. "So what do we do now? Just wait for it to wake up, then attack again?"

Everstay shook his head. "That's not the right approach. Our mission isn't to kill the Torrak. We're here for the Star Tear."

Sparrow, threw his hands up. "But what if it wakes up before we get the chance?"

"Exactly," grayworm said. "Even if we wake it up and fight it again, it'll just go back to sleep, and we'll be stuck in this endless cycle."

Omega voice was laced with skepticism. "So, you're saying it can't be killed?"

"Not right now, no," Everstay answered, his gaze never leaving the Torrak. I don't think we posses the right weapon to kill it, not in this state."

The group was silent for a moment, the weight of their mission sinking in. They needed to find a way to complete their objective, but the Torrak loomed like an immovable obstacle.

"We need to find a way down to the crack where the Star Tear is. The fire could erupt at any time," Omega said, his voice tinged with urgency. He crouched down, picking up a treasure chest filled with gold and jewels.

Somi's eyes narrowed as she looked over the deep crack in the ground. "It's pretty deep down there. Getting to the Star Tear would take more than two minutes. And if anyone tried to jump down, it'd be game over. Even if they did make it, climbing back up would take too long, and the fire would get them."

"Exactly," Grayworm muttered, looking at the crack. "The timing is way too tight. We need a better plan."

Suddenly, the ground began to tremble beneath them. The team quickly braced themselves, their bodies instinctively shifting into defensive positions. Somi pulled her shield close, pressing it against Everstay's back to protect him. Moments later, the fiery eruption burst from the crack, its intense heat forcing them to shield their faces and step back. They stood still, waiting for the fire to subside.

"What are we going to do about your shield?" Somi asked, concern written all over her face as she glanced at Everstay's now-damaged shield.

Everstay sighed, taking stock of the situation. "I'll buy a new one at the store later," he muttered, his tone weary.

As the fire died down and the smoke cleared, Everstay's eyes caught something on the horizon—an ocean, the same one they had crossed earlier to get to the island. His mind began to work as he formulated an idea.

"Okay, guys. I think I've got an idea," Everstay said, his voice laced with determination. He turned toward the ocean, beckoning the others to follow him.

He pointed toward a large barrel sitting precariously at the edge of the water. "Look at this barrel," he said, his gaze sharp. "It's the only thing holding this water back from spilling into the crack."

The others stared at the barrel, their eyes lighting up as they began to realize what Everstay was suggesting.

"If we break the barrel…" Somi trailed off, finishing his sentence, "the water will pour out and flood the crack."

Grayworm's eyes widened. "That could work! The water might block the fire and give us just enough time to grab the Star Tear."

With the plan now in motion, the team sprang into action. They rushed toward the barrel, each member using their unique abilities to prepare for the task ahead. As Everstay readied his weapon, he looked over at his team, his expression serious.

"Let's do this," he said.

The crowd watching from the arena, along with the viewers tuning in from home, exploded in applause. The commentator's voice echoed through the stadium.

"This is it, folks! The team is pulling off a risky but brilliant move. Can they get the Star Tear before the fire erupts again? It's all about timing now! Let's see if they can pull it off!"

As the team closed in on the barrel, the tension in the air was palpable. This was their moment to succeed—or fail.

And as the viewers watched on, they could only wait and wonder: would Everstay's bold plan work, or would they face another setback? The game was far from over, and the stakes had never been higher.

The commentators' voices continued to buzz in the background, their excitement infectious.

"This is incredible! The teamwork, the strategy, the tension—it's all coming together! Don't miss the next move—this could be a game-changer!"
