Chapter 6: chapter five•
Side note: I feel the need to clarify. Kohen married Kristina so he could've inherited his father's company, and he thought she would make a good wife, but she didn't know that. (Like I've said).
He didn't know Tara existed until she showed up at sixteen, and he felt pity for her, which is why he offered to pay for her college and therapy. Now that Tara is back, he's realizing that he is actually attracted to her now that she's of legal age. And as far as kissing Kristina, he mostly does that to get a rise out of Tara and again.. she's his wife.
He tries to fight his feelings for Tara because he knows that once he crosses that line, there's no going back.
Not all my stories will have the same plot. That's boring and I am not boring

KOHEN
I'm sitting by the poolside waiting for Tara. I don't exactly know why I asked her to join me. I just can't get her off my mind.
The things I'd do to her.....
I take a deep breath, trying to push my fantasy to the side.
Tara is a beautiful young woman, full of life and energy, intelligent, and spirited. I admired her, but I knew the boundaries, and I respected them.
Somewhat...
I know if she shows an interest in me, then I'd have no self-control.
Suddenly, the patio doors slid open, and there she was. Tara stepped out, wearing a bikini that left little to my imagination.
Oh shit.
The bikini fit perfectly, illuminating her figure and her flowing hair. I was stunned, but I quickly averted my eyes, focusing on the pool's blue expanse.
"Hey.." she waved.
"Hey." I replied, forcing a casual smile, "Come on in. The water's great."
She dipped her toes in, testing the water before diving in gracefully. As she resurfaced, she brushed her wet hair back, revealing her sparkling eyes and beaming smile. "So," she started, swimming towards me, "How's your day going?"
"Boring mostly. It's less boring now that you're here." I say to her.
She smiles. "So tell me something I don't know about you."
I nodded, grateful for the change in subject. "Aright. I was a firefighter before I decided to take a different career path."
"That's a big leap," she mused, "From saving lives to designing buildings."
I chuckled. "Well, architecture isn't just about designing buildings. It's about creating spaces where people feel safe, comfortable, and happy. In a way, I guess I'm still in the business of saving lives, just in a different manner."
She smiled at that. "That's really cool."
"My turn."
"I didn't know we were playing a game." She says while moving round in the water.
"We're always playing a game." I say to her.
"Okay, then what's your question?"
Hmm. Who is Lina?" I ask.
"She's one of my best friends. I met her in my writing class. She's outgoing, funny, bold, and fashionable." Tara explains.
"She sounds interesting." I say, giving her a small smirk.
"Trying to take up an affair?" She jokes. "Don't worry, I won't tell my mother."
I couldn't help but snort. "I have no interest in a party college girl."
"Whatever. My turn."
"Alright."
"How did you meet my mom? Why would a guy like you get married to her?" She asks, but before I can answer, she rumbles on. "I mean, she's attractive, I guess, and somewhat youngish, but I just don't get it."
"Can I answer the question now?" I ask.
"Yeah. Sorry."
"I married your mother because, well, I was young, and I needed stability." I say to her.
"How.... romantic."
I chuckle. "I wasn't one for romance. I've fucked my fair share of women but relationships were never my strong suit."
"So you changed for my mom?" She frowned like she was hurting but I couldn't be sure why exactly. Maybe it was her mother. Or me? I'm not sure.
"I wouldn't say change just..... matured. Plus, it wasn't really much of a marriage since I took over my father's company shorty after." I explain further.
"So you're in love?"
"When do I get to ask my question?" I ask, almost laughing.
"When I say so," she says.
"That doesn't seem fair."
"Why are you avoiding the question?" She asks with an eyebrow raised.
"I'm not."
"You are."
"Can you float?" I ask
"Why is that important?"
Can you float?" I ask again.
"I don't know. I guess I can. I don't know." She says.
"Let me teach you." I say to her while biting my lip.
"And then you'll answer my question?" She asks
"Whatever you want."
"Okay then."
She swam towards me, her body moving gracefully through the water. I positioned myself behind her, my hands gently supporting her under her shoulders.
"If you dunk me, I will murder you." She says, and I laugh.
"I won't, I promise."
She gives me a nervous smile.
As she leaned back, I felt the warmth of her skin against my fingertips, sending an electric jolt through my body.
"Relax your body," I instructed. "
She followed my guidance, her body slowly becoming buoyant. I continued to support her, my fingers subtly gliding along her sides, tracing the contours of her silhouette.
"This is nice," she murmured, her voice laced with innocence and trust.
I quickly withdrew my hands, the sudden absence leaving an ache in my fingertips.
"I'm glad you're enjoying it," I say, still supporting her.
Tara looked at me and returned to her previous position, standing upright directly in front of me now.
"Do you love her?" Tara asks once more.
I stare at her, taking in every feature. Her hair was all wet and curly now. I think it's the first time I've seen her natural hair. It's beautiful.
I like it like this.
I touch her natural curls, pulling her closer to me. She looks up at me, and for a moment, I almost forget what we are.
"Kohen." She says softly.
Fuck. Why did she have to say my name like that..
"Do you love her?"
