Uchiha's flies : Descendants are Born

Chapter 49: Chapter 49, "Real and Fake, True and False,"

Uzuki Yugao felt an intense wave of panic as Haruto revealed his Sharingan's ability to see through people's hearts. Realization struck her with a cold shock—Haruto had likely seen right through her, understanding her intentions from the start.

She berated herself for thinking she'd gained his trust, that her performance, even to the extent of flaunting her own body, might make him drop his guard. Now, it all felt like a game Haruto had orchestrated from the beginning.

"Haruto, you're truly… cruel!" Yugao whispered, her voice thick with bitter disappointment. She had gone so far for this mission, yet she felt she had only degraded herself, all in vain. Her hands clenched into fists as she bit her lip hard enough to draw blood, feeling the sting of betrayal and self-recrimination.

Haruto merely smiled, shaking his head slightly. He reached out, gently tapping her cheek, and said softly, "It's time to wake up, Yugao…"

Suddenly, her vision blurred, the room spun, and her consciousness faded. When she opened her eyes again, she found herself lying on an unfamiliar bed.

"Where am I…?" she mumbled, bewildered.

Haruto sat in a chair beside her, his expression calm and unreadable. "My house," he replied evenly.

Yugao looked around, frowning. "Your house? But… this place doesn't look like your home at all."

Haruto's expression didn't change as he explained, "What you saw, what you experienced—it was all an illusion created by the Sharingan."

A deep silence filled the room as Yugao processed his words, her face darkening. She checked herself and found her clothes intact, confirming that nothing physical had happened between them. As the truth of Haruto's illusion settled in, a flicker of anger lit her gaze.

"Haruto… you knew why I approached you, didn't you?" Yugao demanded, her tone cold. "You saw my purpose in coming close to you through your Mangekyo Sharingan, right?"

"Yes," Haruto replied simply, his tone without inflection.

Yugao's eyes narrowed. "Then why didn't you kill me, if you knew? Are you some kind of sadist, Haruto? Was it not enough to humiliate me in my mind?"

Haruto's expression turned to one of surprise. "Hold on—when did I ever humiliate you?" he countered, sounding almost exasperated. "I sat here the entire time, doing nothing. You're the one who mistook it all for reality."

At his words, a flush of embarrassment swept over Yugao's cheeks. "So, that's your excuse? You're a pervert, Haruto! How could you make me go through something like that, even mentally? It's disgusting!"

Haruto sighed, shaking his head as he looked away. "You're jumping to conclusions, Yugao," he muttered, clearly frustrated.

She crossed her arms, undeterred. "Not answering only proves your guilt, doesn't it?"

"Fine, think what you want," he said with a shrug, his patience visibly waning. "But for the record, I haven't done anything to you. The only reason I put you through that illusion was to understand your loyalty. I wanted to see just how far you'd go to carry out the Hokage's orders."

His words cut through her anger, catching her off guard. Haruto continued, his tone calm and unwavering, "I was surprised by what I saw, Yugao. I never expected you to go to such lengths. But I have to ask—how much of this is truly you?"

Yugao felt her chest tighten as his gaze met hers, filled with a mix of pity and disappointment. For a moment, she couldn't find the words to respond. The truth of his question hit her deeply, echoing her own doubts. In the pursuit of completing her mission, she had been willing to do anything. In the past month, she'd even frequented the seediest parts of town, shadowing people, learning from them, all to appear believable in her role.

And all of it was just to fulfill one order.

As if reading her thoughts, Haruto spoke again. "You're a clever woman, Yugao. Instead of following orders without question, why haven't you asked yourself why the Hokage would give you such a demeaning task? Do you truly think he's acting for the good of the village?"

Yugao's mind raced, but she remained silent.

Haruto went on, his voice tinged with a sadness she hadn't seen before. "Is it because he's afraid of Uchiha's power? He fears that we might disrupt his position as Hokage. This distrust… it's something I've seen for far too long. Our clan is loyal to Konoha and always has been. Yet we're treated like a threat."

A dark chuckle escaped him as he shook his head. "Following the Hokage will not bring you glory, Yugao. Do you think that obeying him blindly, carrying out his orders, will help you rise? He's the only one benefiting, climbing higher while sending people like you into the dirt. Just look at yourself now, following his orders like a puppet… is it worth it?"

Haruto's words echoed in Yugao's mind, shaking her convictions to the core. She had never questioned her loyalty to Sarutobi Hiruzen, the Hokage, nor the ANBU's creed of complete obedience. The missions were harsh and unforgiving, often requiring actions that blurred the line between enemy and ally. But she'd always trusted that, in the end, they served a higher purpose.

Yet, as she replayed Haruto's words in her mind, doubts began to rise within her. She had been following Hiruzen for years, accepting every order with unquestioning loyalty. She'd been raised to believe in his wisdom, his vision for Konoha. But Haruto's words made her think back on moments she'd tried to forget—moments that now cast Hiruzen's actions in a new light.

She remembered the night of the Uchiha clan massacre two years ago, when she had arrived too late to stop anything, tasked only with cleaning up the aftermath. She had seen Itachi that night, yet Hiruzen hadn't ordered them to pursue him, leaving her with a sense of confusion that had never fully left her.

And then, just two weeks ago, she had watched as Sarutobi Hiruzen "interrogated" Danzo. She and her team had been there, following the Hokage's commands to let Danzo escape. It hadn't made sense at the time, but she had followed her orders, trusting in her leader's judgment.

Until now, she'd never questioned him. But suddenly, everything seemed to unravel in front of her.

Haruto's voice pulled her back to the present. "It's all just illusions, Yugao. Loyalty, honor—these things lose their meaning when you're used as a pawn. Look around and ask yourself what's real and what's fake."

As he spoke, Yugao felt her steadfast loyalty shift, turning fragile in the face of mounting doubts. For so long, she had fought to protect the village, to uphold the ideals she'd believed in. But now, those ideals felt hollow, overshadowed by the reality of her obedience to a man who used her devotion to his own ends.

Was her loyalty misplaced? Was Hiruzen truly acting for the village, or was he simply ensuring his own survival, his own legacy, even if it meant exploiting others?

The thought unsettled her. She had dedicated her life to the ANBU, a place where loyalty was absolute, where questioning orders was unthinkable. But today, Haruto's words had stirred something within her that couldn't be easily quieted.

As the room fell into silence, Yugao looked at Haruto, seeing him not as an enemy but as someone who understood her struggles. She wondered how much he had endured, how much he had sacrificed for a village that viewed his clan with suspicion and fear.

In the end, the only truth she could cling to was her own.

---

Outside, the village of Konoha continued its daily routine, unaware of the turmoil within the hearts of those who served it from the shadows. For Uzuki Yugao, everything she once held as certain now felt questionable, fragile.

Haruto remained seated, his calm, steady gaze fixed on her as if waiting for her to arrive at her own conclusion. In the quiet of his home, Yugao felt the weight of her choices, the cost of her loyalty, and the reality of her future in ANBU.
