Who is Playing the Love Development Game in Gundam

Chapter 225: Chapter 225: Testing Lacus and Flirting

He Kui put on a bit of weight padding, attached a fake mustache, donned sunglasses, and installed a voice modulator near his throat. His disguise was complete.

It looked ordinary but utilized PLANT's most advanced technology—equipment even the special ops spies used. This setup could bypass infrared and various other detection systems, a must-have for any covert activities. If he weren't a director, it would have been hard for him to acquire it.

"Who are you?" Lowe saw He Kui and exaggeratedly jumped back.

"Stop kidding around," He Kui said, stepping onto Lowe's ship. Unlike their usual land vessel, this was a new model of space transport, initially designed as a supply ship for the Archangel. Its practicality had led to increased production, and Lowe's ability to secure one was impressive.

Before long, they docked at April City, where a soldier in green approached to check their documents. He Kui didn't carry a typical visa. Instead, he produced a special, plain white pass.

The soldier, initially nonchalant, immediately straightened upon seeing it and saluted. Although it bore no personal information beyond intricate encryption, the pass itself was highly prestigious. It granted unrestricted access to most non-top-secret military zones in the Twelve Cities and could even secure him shelter in ZAFT bases on Earth. However, every pass was tracked. The Council Chairman and others would know where and when he used it, so lending it out was allowed, but misuse could lead to confiscation or even a military trial.

"Apologies for the intrusion, sir!"

While the soldier wondered why such a high-ranking official was with Junk Guild civilians, protocol prevented him from asking further questions.

"No problem; carry on," He Kui replied with a kind smile.

As they entered April City, Lowe and Jolie were still marveling over the earlier display of authority.

"Man, if we had a pass like that, we could go anywhere!" Lowe mused.

"If you joined ZAFT, they might consider it," He Kui replied with a chuckle.

"No thanks," Lowe quickly dismissed the thought.

They made their way to the Supreme Council building, but just as they arrived, He Kui's wrist communicator began vibrating intensely.

"What's wrong?" Lowe and the others turned to He Kui, who had suddenly stopped.

"Danger," he said. "Five armed suspects."

Through one of his devices, he saw five men heading toward the Supreme Council building. The area was full of tourists, and while they couldn't avoid the security screening at the entrance, their automatic rifles could still claim many lives.

"Wait here and stay safe," He Kui told them, leaving a Haro behind before he hurried toward the security office.

"Excuse me."

"Sir?" The guard looked at He Kui, who presented his pass and shared real-time footage from his Haro's feed. "These five are armed; stop them quickly."

Before long, the would-be terrorists were apprehended. Despite the swift resolution, He Kui frowned. If such amateurs had managed to reach this point, it signaled how unstable things had become—even the capital wasn't safe anymore. Whether they were bribed Coordinators or Earth Alliance spies, they posed a severe threat. Judging by their lack of skill, he guessed their goal was to instill fear within the Supreme Council.

Thankful for his asteroid base, he reminded himself to stay vigilant with supplies and avoid giving assassins any opportunities. After parting ways with Lowe, he took a secret route through the Clyne faction to reach Lacus's residence.

Though it was his first visit, it matched the descriptions in his memory: a lush, villa-like mansion nestled in a verdant area, with views of a seemingly endless ocean.

"Welcome, He Kui. I heard you had a bit of trouble on the way. Luckily, your robot was there, or the damage could've been worse," Lacus greeted him warmly, her smile both inviting and charming.

"It was just a coincidence," he said.

"Oh, really? Then what brings you here today?"

"The Strengthening Operation is about to start," he replied. "The Freedom and Justice Gundams will be deployed."

"Of course. After all, Athrun is my fiancé," Lacus smiled, her tone making it sound more intimate than it was.

". . . I'm not sure Yzak will be able to utilize Freedom's full potential."

"And?" she prompted.

"Nothing," He Kui replied. He was still cautious about the possibility of Lacus handing over the mobile suits, given past events. He thought it wise to probe her intentions subtly.

"What are the Clyne faction's plans?"

"If we can secure all the mass drivers and force the Atlantic Federation into negotiations, that would be ideal." Lacus looked thoughtfully at He Kui. "Are you worried we'll betray PLANT? Why?"

He Kui didn't answer immediately, but she quickly pieced things together, recalling his earlier comments about the neutron jammers.

Without explanation, He Kui offered a slight, ambiguous smile, maintaining an air of mystery.

"Relax," she said, smiling. "We have no such intentions. But you should be careful—one day, Lacus might uncover all your secrets."

"If it's other things you want to uncover, I wouldn't mind," He Kui replied playfully.

". . . I imagine the public would be quite curious about PLANT's famous Director flirting with their idol." Lacus didn't blush; she merely gave him a mischievous smile.

"My apologies… I'll be going now," he stammered, realizing he'd b

een too bold.

"Coward," she teased, watching him leave with an amused smile.
