Chapter 88: Chapter 88: Apprentice War (Part 6)

"Hiss!"

Anderson and Aldo gasped in unison.

A nearly 1:40 exchange ratio—were the Black Tower Wizard Academy apprentices monsters?

"1:40!?"

Both Anderson and Aldo exclaimed simultaneously, the figure so outrageous that their minds struggled to comprehend it.

"Something's not right!" Aldo was the first to regain his composure. "There's a problem with the white wizards' strength!"

Richard smiled serenely, offering no further explanation.

"How could the white wizards be so weak?" Anderson, now also processing the information, spoke with uncertainty.

"White wizard academies focus on training corps, while black wizard academies emphasize individual prowess. Logically, the white wizards should have the advantage. How could they be... this weak?"

Richard shook his head, noting that Anderson's initial thoughts mirrored his own. Who could have anticipated the white wizards would be so lacking?

"White wizards do emphasize corps training, but their methods are too gentle. They lack real combat experience," Richard explained. "In simple terms, these individuals have solid theoretical knowledge but lack battle experience. When faced with sudden situations, they lose their composure.

When we engaged them, just a slight show of force had them fleeing."

"That bad?" Aldo was incredulous.

If the white wizards were as inept as Richard claimed, how did they become the dominant force in wizarding world conquests of other worlds?

"Believe it or not," Richard shrugged nonchalantly. He shared this information because they were all allies, fighting for a common cause.

"I'm speaking the truth. The exchange ratio is evident, and the three academies have similar numbers. You can count outside and see for yourselves."

Aldo and Anderson pondered for a moment before thanking Richard.

Richard's willingness to share intelligence was undoubtedly beneficial.

"What do you two plan to do next? Pursue the advantage?" Richard inquired curiously.

"Hm? Isn't Black Tower Wizard Academy planning to advance?" Anderson furrowed his brow, wondering if Richard's claims were false.

If the white wizards were truly as weak as he said, why wouldn't they pursue?

"No, Black Tower Wizard Academy isn't planning to pursue," Richard nodded. "We have some internal issues to resolve. I just dealt with a dissident, and now I need to reorganize."

Anderson recalled the scene he witnessed upon his arrival.

"So it's a power struggle?" Anderson thought to himself.

Initially, he assumed Richard was dueling a strong white wizard.

"Apart from that, I have a word of advice for you two," Richard said calmly. "The number of white wizards we faced didn't match their total. Some must be preparing defenses back at the resource points. If you plan to pursue, it's best to do so quickly.

If you wait too long and they complete their defenses, your losses could be significant."

Upon hearing this, Aldo and Anderson quickly rose to leave.

"In that case, we'll leave Black Tower Wizard Academy to it," Aldo said as he stood. "Since this resource point was secured by your academy, Annihilation Wizard Academy won't interfere. However, about your original resource point..."

Anderson also looked at Richard, implying that one academy controlling two resource points might be excessive.

"How about splitting the resources among the three academies?" Richard suggested nonchalantly. "We're all on the same side, so sharing resources is only fair."

Anderson and Aldo were surprised by Richard's willingness to agree.

"However, I have one condition."

"What condition?" Anderson asked.

"I'd like to borrow some of your Alchemy apprentices," Richard smiled. "I noticed the white wizards' camp is quite nice, and I plan to make some improvements."

"Building a camp?"

The apprentice leaders were puzzled.

"Building a camp... Does Black Tower Wizard Academy anticipate defeat?" Aldo asked gravely. "Or is the information you provided inaccurate?"

Richard waved his hand dismissively. "I swear on my soul sea, the information I shared is entirely truthful.

However, I'm a cautious person by nature. If you two are defeated, having a fortress to defend isn't a bad idea."

With a playful wink, Richard concluded.

Anderson and Aldo exchanged glances; their doubts weren't entirely dispelled by Richard's explanation, but rather deepened.

Such is the downside of being a black wizard.

They find it difficult to trust others.

However, confirming the white apprentice's strength was essential for both academies, and with no conflicting interests among the three, Richard had no reason to deceive them.

Ultimately, both academies decided to pursue the white wizard apprentices.

Annihilation Wizard Academy and Void Wizard Academy left Richard with thirty Alchemy apprentices. These apprentices weren't particularly skilled; their survival through the bloody exams was largely due to luck.

Being left with Richard was further testament to their fortunate circumstances.

"Quite stingy, leaving only thirty apprentices," Richard mused, then set about organizing the construction of fortifications with both his and Black Tower Wizard Academy's apprentices.

While the information he shared with Anderson and Aldo was entirely truthful, he hadn't disclosed one suspicion: the white wizard apprentices might grow at an unusually rapid pace.

This intuition stemmed from Richard's foresight.

In just two battles spaced a few hours apart, the white wizards had already reduced their casualties. If they fought a few more battles, these ivory tower apprentices would quickly mature.

At that point, the numerical advantage of the white wizards would be fully realized.

However, this was merely Richard's speculation.

Under normal circumstances, Annihilation Wizard Academy and Void Wizard Academy constituted two-thirds of the black wizard faction's combat power. Capturing a resource point that had just suffered defeat should be straightforward.

Even if the white wizards received reinforcements, they could retreat.

The worst-case scenario was a significant defeat for the black wizards, which seemed unlikely.

Based on the traces left by the white wizards, Richard and the Alchemy apprentices discussed the camp's construction.

First was the wall. The foundation laid by the white wizards was still visible, indicating a wall of substantial thickness but not particularly high.

Richard surmised that the wall's primary purpose was to elevate the apprentices' line of sight while consuming the enemy apprentices' magic.

After all, maintaining Levitation requires magic.

Next were the traps outside the wall.

Richard believed that magic arrays should be manually activated and placed a reasonable distance from the camp. Near the camp, warning magic arrays should suffice.

The Necromancers' puppet scouts could easily neutralize triggered traps, and Richard was prepared for the black wizards' defeat.

Making traps that could harm their own would be embarrassing.

Additionally, wizards can fly, especially once the walls are erected. If the white wizards attack, they won't approach on the ground.

While detection arrays for flying threats exist, they're typically for wizards, not apprentices. Ground-based defenses would be more prudent for now.

With these two points settled, the rest were minor details. After finalizing the plans with the apprentices, Richard commenced construction.
