You Are Deep in The Stars

Chapter 78 - Rejected

Bai Xi placed his hands on the bed. As soon as he leaned closer, Mr. Han turned his head just in time and put his right hand on Bai Xi’s back, at least doubling the medical fee. The speed of inflation was depressing. The kiss on the cheek, which was supposed to last two seconds, turned into a wet kiss. It took a full three minutes before the black-hearted doctor let go of the patient and raised his chin at him, signalling that the consultation could begin.

Bai Xi wiped his mouth and said resentfully, “I think my psychological shadow is getting worse.”

“If it’s a difficult disease, the diagnosis and treatment fees will continue to rise,” Mr. Han reminded.

Bai Xi threw the pillow at him.

Han Zhuo caught it with a smile and asked him, “Is Chunchun angry with you today?”

Bai Xi shook his head.

“Putting today’s matter aside, before all this, the changes you brought to Chunchun weren’t all bad,” Han Zhuo said patiently. “Of course, without everything that’s happened, he would have been like your other two roommates—interning at a well-known company after graduation and working a nine-to-five white-collar job, ordinary and stable. But now, although he’s lost his former life, he’s opened a small-scale sensational art exhibition, owns a house of his own, started a business with you, and learned a lot of secrets most people don’t know, turning half of his life into a science fiction movie. Although it can sometimes be overly exciting, it’s actually not that bad, is it?”

Bai Xi hesitated. “Really?”

“If you still have doubts, you can at least wait until tomorrow and ask Chunchun what he thinks about this matter,” Han Zhuo continued. “Instead of sitting here worrying and frowning.”

Bai Xi said, “Yeah.”

“Can you come and sleep now?” Han Zhuo patted the pillow next to him. Several small stars fell down with the motion, bouncing onto Bai Xi’s pyjamas and stubbornly refusing to slide off.

“You have to be careful tomorrow,” Bai Xi said as he laid back on the bed, still worried.

Han Zhuo agreed and pulled him into his arms.

The night was very quiet and very long.

Next door to the two of them, Liu Chunchun was also sleeping soundly. The medicine prescribed by the doctor contained diazepam, so he didn’t have the time or energy to think too much about what had happened during the day. He closed his eyes in a drowsy state, and when he woke up, it was already dawn.

When he woke, Bai Xi was the only one at home, working in the study.

“Isn’t Brother Han here?” Liu Chunchun asked.

“Why did you get out of bed?” Bai Xi was startled by his sudden appearance and urged him, “Go back and lay down.”

“I’m fine,” Liu Chunchun said. “I just feel a little uncomfortable in my throat.”

“Do you want to go to the hospital?” Bai Xi asked, pulling him into a bright spot by the window to examine his injury carefully. “It seems to be better than yesterday. Wait, I’ll make some porridge for you.”

“I’d better do it myself!” Liu Chunchun refused decisively. First, he had no confidence in Mr. Xiao Bai’s cooking skills. Second, the meticulous care made him feel as though he were truly living a miserable life in need of everyone’s love.

In fact, before Han Zhuo left, he had already prepared breakfast for the patient, including porridge, steamed eggs, and fish soup. As Liu Chunchun put the food into the microwave, he felt the hairs on his back stand up. Dormitory bully Xiao Bai was standing there, his eyes sincere and full of unsaid words.

Five minutes later, Liu Chunchun passed him by with a bowl in one hand and a bun in his mouth, pretending not to notice him.

Bai Xi was unyielding and dragged the chair to sit on the other side of the dining table. He rested his chin on his hands like green leaves and continued to look at him affectionately.

Liu Chunchun burst into tears, wondering why he couldn’t eat in peace even though he was injured.

But Xiao Bai always insisted on having a heart-to-heart talk. Even though Liu Chunchun ate breakfast painfully slow, Xiao Bai patiently accompanied him the entire time and even took the initiative to handle the menial task of putting the bowls in the dishwasher.

Liu Chunchun collapsed onto the sofa, placing his hands on his throat, and said hoarsely and with difficulty, “Ah, it hurts like hell.”

Bai Xi slapped the coffee table and scolded, “Talk to daddy!”

Liu Chunchun, whose acting skills were lacking, had no choice but to sit up straight with a grimace. “I don’t want to talk about what happened yesterday.”

“I wasn’t planning to talk to you about last night.” Bai Xi sat down next to him with a very sincere attitude. “I just want to ask; do you feel like you’re quite unlucky because you met me?”

“Why?” Liu Chunchun asked, surprised by the strange direction of the conversation.

“Look, if it weren’t for me, you wouldn’t be like this now,” Bai Xi said, rubbing his neck and analysing the situation like an expert.

Unfortunately, Liu Chunchun’s thoughts went astray. He said warily, “I can see that you still want to talk about this matter in a roundabout way, so I refuse to continue this conversation.”

Mr. Xiao Bai felt wronged for no reason and swallowed the rest of his heartfelt apology. His chest tightened as he said angrily, “I didn’t!”

Liu Chunchun stood up. “I’m going to work.”

“Come back to daddy!” Bai Xi patted the sofa.

But Liu Chunchun ran faster than a dog once again.

What was originally meant to be a thoughtful and touching heart-to-heart talk turned into a chaotic chase. Bai Xi ended up chasing the patient all over the house. Liu Chunchun, on the verge of tears, felt utterly miserable. He threw himself onto the sofa and prayed that Han Zhuo would return quickly to take this perverted Ultraman away.

What Liu Chunchun didn’t know was that Mr. Wang’s bedroom was only separated by a wall. At that moment, Mr. Wang was sitting on the carpet, listening closely to the commotion coming from the other side, including Liu Chunchun’s exasperated, “He even dared to act like eating potato chips in front of me.”

Mr. Wang couldn’t help but laugh out loud. Strangely enough, he found himself feeling a little fonder of Bai Xi. Without Bai Xi’s seemingly troublesome comfort and companionship, things might have been worse.

.

Meanwhile, Han Zhuo parked his car on the side of the road and walked into an alley. He was very familiar with this place and could navigate it with his eyes closed.

Shi Tian watched Han Zhuo’s figure grow closer on the surveillance camera and gestured for his assistant to leave the room. This time, he didn’t wait for Han Zhuo in the living room but had him taken directly to the laboratory, where Linda was laying asleep.

“Look,” Shi Tian said, “she seems to be sleeping well now. She’s such a lovable little girl.”

“What is this?” Han Zhuo asked, pulling over a light blue infusion tube.

“A newly developed medicine,” Shi Tian replied. “At least there hasn’t been any major rejection reaction yet. If I keep increasing the dose every day, then maybe I can bypass the powerful bad energy in her body. During her sleep, her heartbeat might stop completely, making it easier for us to conduct follow-up research.”
